Ffs, you can say someone smells. You can even say a group of people smell. I say it all the time when I get home after a bus ride. Most of the bus stinkers are men 70+, I'd say, so a sub-group of men. TW are a sub-group of men (pace, Jane Russell KC) and I should be able to say they, as a group, are likely to smell bad if that's been my experience of them.

Tweets can be stupid, puerile, insulting ... whatever. Humans are like that. It's not a criminal offence. Tweeters aren't writing sublime poetry Advising women to hit transgressing men where it hurts, as I've been advised to do by many self defence trainers, is not (or should not be seen as) incitement to violence, nor is saying you hate people or fuck 'em.

The armed police didn't come or arrive at the airport, some have suggested, because they were already there. It's full of armed cops.

The Telegraph has disabled comments now, which was interesting. I wonder if they're also cowering under the trans cosh.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15057371/Father-Ted-creator-Graham-Linehan-arrested-Heathrow-Airport.html

"A spokesman for the Met Police told the Mail 'The man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence. This is in relation to posts on X."

Apologies for the DM link, the story is new so there isn't much choice so far, but hopefully this should be a reminder to everyone that inciting violence is illegal. Including towards LGBT people.

I do love it when posters ‘apologise for the mail link’

‘ughh i nearly vomitted whilst pressing send and then had to slather myself in the guardian to make myself feel better’ it’s the ultimate pearl clutch

He's already being sued for defamation by a gay man, and already has a charge for harassment and criminal damage against a trans woman, and threatened to kill women at a protest (which earned him a permanent ban on Twitter, before Uncle Musk brought him back).

He also sexually harassed and threated to drag a trans woman out a toilet by her "kinky boots". I'm disappointed he wasn't charged for that.

Multiple people, I was one of them, reported him to the police for his latest sexual violence threat to punch trans people in their genitalia.

The violent homophobe won't stop until he's in prison.

It's also not a good look for the GC community since apart from Jo he appears to be one of the "leaders".

I'm not a fan (he seems a bit weird and obsessive to me). But what woman did he threaten to kill at a protest? Google so far not helping.

I think the tweet could be perceived as inciting violence against one of the characteristics covered by hate crime.
It would be fine to suggest kicking any or all biological man in the balls but not fine to suggest kicking a subset of men who have one of those characteristics.

This isn't AIBU, it's Feminism: Sex and Gender and we know the law.

I try not to use the word wrong, but you are wrong on this and obviously unaware of the Supreme Court ruling.

ANY biological male, regardless of his protected characteristics, commits an offence if he enters and uses women-only facilities. It has always been the law. Men have never been legally permitted to enter women's single-sex spaces. Stonewall told men they could: Stonewall was wrong.

Sorry didn't mean to offend and I'm sure you are much more knowledgeable than me.

Yes I agree that no man should be in a designated single sex space, my point was the wording of Graham's tweet. As far as I can tell the wording below would have been acceptable as that wouldn't have involved a protected characteristic as defined by the hate crime laws.

If a biological man is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act. Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the ***

Apologies in advance if I'm wrong

It wasn't at a protest, that's a common misconception - he threatened to kill Aisling Bea, Sara Pascoe & Cariad Lloyd and got banned from Twitter, the ban was later overturned.

EarthSight · 02/09/2025 14:29

Did the activist that shouted 'Punch a TERF in the mouth' at a crowd get the same treatment I wonder.

I thought most teachers agreed that Yr 9/10 classrooms in boys schools were particularly problematic as hormones started to surge.

No particular hate against 14/15 year old boys. It's biology innit.

I think it’s a reference to the observation that trans activists are prone to being soap dodgers.

I thought it had something to do with them pouring piss on themselves in "protest".

Yes, threatening to punch people in the genitalia is a sexual threat of violence. His other tweets per se may or may not meet the threshold (which is higher than the far-right make it out to be) for malicious communications but they give additional context for his threat that it is was made with hateful intent (in law this could become an aggravator making the crime worse)

"Of course not cause that's "freedom of speech""

From what I've seen so-called "free speech" seems to be something the far-right (including people who threaten/encourage/incite arson attacks against hotels housing immigrants) spend time complaining about.

So you think that women should simply put up and shut up do you?

I’d happily punch any man in a dress I find loitering in a women’s toilet. They have no legal right to be there and they should fuck off.

Christinapple - an off-topic question. I've often wondered about your username and how it's meant to sound (I think we all sound out usernames in our head whilst browsing, no?). Is it 'Chris Tin Apple'? Or Christ-in-apple (akin to Jesus on a tortilla, perhaps)? or is it in fact Christina (A)pple?

Genuinely interested.

Pluvia · 02/09/2025 14:34

No need to apologise and I'm sorry if I came on heavy: there are more than 50 shades of grey and I try very hard usually to avoid telling someone they're wrong. But your idea that because a man might gain some protection in law in some scenarios under the protected characteristic of Gender Reassignment doesn't wash in this case.

The Supreme Court has made it clear that no matter what he says or does, a man can never biologically be female and that women-only, ladies-only, females-only means just that: no men who 'live as a woman', no men with GRAs, no men who wear frocks, no men who've had themselves castrated and had a cavity created that they call a vagina. Only men who have a lawful reason (plumber, cleaner, electrician, whatever) should ever be in there.

Many of us on Feminism: Sex and Gender have been fighting this fight for years and have had to become familiar with some fairly niche areas of the law. I don't think any of us want to sound superior, we've just had to learn in order to challenge what's going on.

Absolutely. There is no law in this country criminalising offending people. Some analysis on this point on Blackbelt Barrister.

From the Daily Mail article:

Linehan, 57, has shared the tweets which he says police arrested him over. One from April 20 said: 'If a trans-identified male is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act. Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the balls.'
A second tweet, on April 19, was a picture of a trans rally with the caption: 'A photo you can smell.' The third was a follow up to this tweet which said: 'I hate them. Misogynists and homophobes. F* em.'

This tweet is what @Christinapple is referring to as 'incitement to violence'

As PP have stated, the double standards are astonishling

Looking forward to hearing that all of these tweeters have been arrested with the same level of force.

Is the @glinner account on here still live ?
as this was his refuge during the old Twitter ban.

OuterSpaceCadet · 02/09/2025 14:41

Given that boundary violation can be the only way a woman knows prior to actual assault that a man is dangerous, please can someone clarify at what point it is ok to punch a dude in the balls?

Jokes obvs. Only a man with very little knowledge of women would believe that women are about to start doing this. We are usually all too aware of our weaker strength against the male sex. We know it's not safe. That's why we often don't say anything. That's why so many men get away with doing whatever the fuck they want.

Glinner · 02/09/2025 14:41

Hello! Yes it is. Although I won't be posting much for a bit as I desperately need to sleep!

He's not as rich.

And I don't think JKR has openly advocated for kicking trans women in the nuts, has she?

Thingybob · 02/09/2025 14:46

I completely agree with you and wasn't suggesting that a trans identifying man is any less of a man than any other and the law regarding SSS is exactly the same for them. I was just trying to highlight the wording of Graham's first tweet which is presumably the justification the police used for their (disproportionate) treatment of him.

Btw I've also been around for the best part of a decade but have still not learnt how to express myself clearly.

Sorry forgot to quote Pluvia

Crocodile Dundee Comedy GIF by Laff

That was clearly not a serious thread to kill. I'd say his clarion call yesterday (?) to kick trans women in the balls was more problematic than that obviously tongue-in-cheek tweet.

Reminds me of a scene from Crocodile Dundee.

Chickenbone123 · 02/09/2025 13:01

Is that for real?! Seriously!?

If that is what he’s arrested for then we need seriously to sort out the policing and law in this country.

Punch them in the balls is a completely legitimate form and a well advised form of self defence for women being assaulted by men. Anyone remember Miss Congenialtys SING. Solar plexus, Instep, Nose, Groin. Should be taught in schools to female only classes imo.

Yes, I have even been told to do this by actual police officers on a self-defense course. Maybe I should report them!
