Figured it was my turn for once!

Plus this way I beat the rush to the bar.

Now I must return to the previous thread to relocate my Tunnock's secret stash.

Serve yourselves until the bar gerbils arrive.

I saw a model of Swashy's galleon today!

I take it that's the 'before' photo?

I rather hope so.

That's after.

Just saw this elsewhere in FWR.

That's Boily's best mate, that is. He can still use the Staunch Ally, though - just lob us a few crates of Tunnocks on his way past the Bluestocking.

I use Gemini. It's a bit variable and will sometimes have a fit of the vapours, but it's generally ok.

Gemini produced the infamous Spam cocktail. Its approach to food is truly innovative!

Those squares are great, @MyrtleLion . So varied and interesting.

Woolly Hugs blankets made from squares often have a border, but don't have to. Would you be OK with picking up stitches to make one? They can stop the edges from curling.

Debbie Abrahams, who designs many blankets made from squares, recommends this blocking method:
Materials
Pins. You can use blocking pins but I use mapping pins.
Something to pin the squares to - I use blocking mats (like small children's play mats) but some people just use the carpet
Spray bottle
Method
Pin the square (or whole blanket) to the measurements you want it to be. Pin the blanket face down, unless if has things like bobbles which you don't want to squash. Otherwise, face up.
Spray the knitting with water and leave to dry. I saturate my knitting but you don't have to. Sometimes I use a tea towel to press the water into the knitting instead.

If you don't have pins or carpet, you can just put the blanket on a flat surface, smooth it out, and spray it. If you don't have a spray bottle, soak the blanket in a bowl of water for a few minutes and then get a lot of the water out by spreading it flat on a towel, then roll up the towel and stand on it a few times.

Blocking will be less effective on acrylic yarn than on wool.

I am awful at knitting. I don't suppose my wife is a decent knitter?

@MyrtleLion your work is amazing! Have you seen these:

https://www.laceknittingstitches.com/search?updated-max=2016-03-12T01:40:00-08:00&max-results=20&start=20&by-date=false

I really fancy trying some of them.

I think the Woolly Hugs blankets can be any size, not just tiny or full-size.

Thank you!

Those lace patterns are amazing!

I can do more squares with those patterns. Though for the premature babies, I worry they might catch fingers and toes in the holes.

The Little Hugs project has these guidelines:

  1. Minimum Size : 18 inches by 18 inches, for example that is a 3×3 6 inch squares with a small edge. NB If making for a teen in GOSH/MARSDEN, minimum size to be 48 inches by 60 inches, ie single bed sized.

I'd ask K&P, when she gets back from her gallivanting next week @MyrtleLion . I sent some recently that were 18" square & bigger, & she didn't say they were wrong - but then she IS very nice.

dunno, glasses-wearers with books looking forward to enjoying tea and a range of magically gluten-free treats sounds like good company. Though personally I'd remove the ridiculous wig and wear trousies rather than voluminous skirts.

SionnachRuadh · 23/08/2025 20:06

I don't ever wear a skirt, never mind a voluminous one. Sometimes I vaguely think I might get myself a kilt, but I never get round to it, and my family tartan is a bit on the loud side anyway.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/08/2025 20:17

I tend to wear trousers by default, but like a skirt when it’s hot and I can wear sandals. And recently I’ve started wearing dresses more - mountain warehouse has a selection of practical ones (pockets!), I bought a couple in a style I like (it comes just below the knee on me which is perfect imo) in different colours. Pull on like a tshirt and that’s it, what’s not to like? I might get a couple more at clearance price…

@ifIwerenotanandroid I agree that your squares would not have been wrong.
It does say Minimum 18" square, so larger than that should be fine.

I second strongly how lovely K&P is. ♥

AsWithGlad · 23/08/2025 21:32

With my blocking instructions, I should have written
If you don't have pins or carpet, you can just put the blanket on a flat surface, on a towel if you have a spare one, smooth it out, and spray it.
