Figured it was my turn for once!

Plus this way I beat the rush to the bar.

Now I must return to the previous thread to relocate my Tunnock's secret stash.

Serve yourselves until the bar gerbils arrive.

And surely she's Glauca? That habit of sprouting extra members would be even more problematic in a chap.

I think her original name was Glaucous, is that gendered? Confused (I’d say it’s somewhat more greyish green than blue. The colour of a field of leeks. )

DeanElderberry · 22/08/2025 11:19

Oh, fairy nuff, more descriptive than gendered.

Like Carex flacca when it's relaxing with pals.

MyrtleLion · 22/08/2025 11:33

Fun and games today. My walking boot is too big, as some significant swelling has gone down. I tried the smaller boot, but my ankle hasn’t reduced enough to make the boot fit. Goodness knows what would have happened if I hadn’t found that out earlier.

I also don’t have a follow-up appointment for next week as promised. I will call and leave a message for the consultant’s secretary, and email her, but I have never had a response previously. This is really upsetting as it reminds me of being discharged from my leg break when they literally forgot to make the appointment and it delayed everything by two weeks.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/08/2025 11:41

So frustrating, these admin errors/delays which exacerbate or prolong medical problems. Flowers

MyrtleLion · 22/08/2025 12:03

I called the secretary and the follow-up appointment phone number she gave on the voicemail was not recognised. I then left a message and drafted an email, and then thought I would call the clinic.

The number on the website was for the main hospital outpatients department. They called the clinic who were not answering and sent an urgent message to get me an appointment, but the messages are not sent until 3pm (FFS). I can expect to hear on Tuesday (supposedly the day I should have the appointment), and should call back after 3pm if I haven’t heard.

It’s very distressing.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/08/2025 12:07

I’ve been learning languages with Duolingo - Latin, mainly, plus occasional Welsh, German and Dutch. I’m not sure how much I have actually retained, though.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/08/2025 14:01

I’m sorry, @myrtle- and this is happening to you, someone who I’m pretty sure is better at navigating the system (if it can be called that) and being a ‘squeaky wheel’ than average.

In our various medical issues recently, I don’t think we’ve come across anyone who wasn’t trying to do a good job.Confused

Britinme · 22/08/2025 14:04

Sympathies @MyrtleLion. I hope they get back to you asap.

This is true. I am a (polite) squeaky wheel, and I can navigate these systems better than average. I'm sure others would be sitting here saying, oh it will come, they know best, I don't want to rock the boat. So it must be more frustrating for them.

This particular system seems screwed up. There is the clinical "get her home asap" vs the administrative "have we ticked all the boxes" and they don't meet.

DH and I have decided that if Im in hospital again and it's after 5pm, I'm staying in, particularly as the lack of a follow-up appointment soc years ago happened when I was discharged after working hours and the ward clerk had gone home.

Magpiecomplex · 22/08/2025 19:12

Chocolate milkshake please, bar gerbil. Large, cream, extra chocolate...

FourthInstar · 22/08/2025 20:01

A small glass of fino, please, gerbils.
I'm going to sit quietly for a bit, because the alternative is a pointless rant.

FuzzyPuffling · 22/08/2025 20:10

Hello FourthInstar. Pleased to meet you. Hope the gerbils are attending to your every need.
Do you need Rosy the red panda for a cuddle?

Boiledbeetle · 22/08/2025 20:21

Gerbils are currently like buses, none for ages then a load at once.

One milkshake for @Magpiecomplex and a glass of wine for @FourthInstar

And a red panda on its way to @FuzzyPuffling until someone else needs a hug

Oh fuzzy seems to have nipped off to the loo and Magpie has brought a guest.

Oh dear I've turned up late again and everyone's asleep @Boiledbeetle seemingly only sleeps upright!

Wherever I close my eyes! I was asleep on the chandelier the other day

If it's about that other thread, I got annoyed by it too. Let's forget about goings on elsewhere on MN & all watch the fireworks outside. With drinks.

Well, AI was drawing a lovely image of us all with fireworks over the Bluey & the galleon, & then... 'unsafe image' - AGAIN! Pah. And it only gives me one image each time now, instead of 4. MS Bing has become pretty useless. Sad times.

FourthInstar · 22/08/2025 20:53

@ifIwerenotanandroid , possibly. I drop into MN when I need a break from the pompous old farts who inhabit another of my online haunts. I'm quite picky about where I hang out and I just wasn't expecting to find that [rant] thread shoved in my face. I'm still fuming about the [rant] to be honest.

It seems a bit early in the evening for fireworks, although it's already getting dark much earlier and the mornings are noticeably nippy. I shall cling onto summer for as long as I can...

BeLemonNow · 22/08/2025 20:56

Oh hello! We are awake at the same time! Well I'm a bit sleepy 😴 maybe some kind of caffeinated cocktail please? And something for my hedgehog wife? 🤗

BeLemonNow · 22/08/2025 20:58

@Boiledbeetle Grok insisted you always sleep standing up, maybe it was a one off...

I can sleep next to the speaker in a nightclub, so definitely not strange for me to sleep upright!

I saw two magpies on the roof when I left for work this morning. A nice omen for the day!

Boiledbeetle · 22/08/2025 21:04

Gerbil service will be slow tonight due to a skeleton staff.

K & P has gone on holiday and left Maud in charge.

Maud is having a house party.

The gerbils are up to date with their contraception aren't they as the Staunch Ally gerbils were invited as well.

I am in awe of anyone who's on such good terms with Morpheus. I can't sleep anywhere except a bed (or sleeping bag), in utter darkness. Not on planes, not in tents, not in a house without a good approximation of lightstop blinds. Not in a room with a ticking clock...
I would love to snooze on a cushion perched on a chandelier!

Can we all go to Maud's party, or is it gerbils only?
Will the quokkas be helping out behind our bar? ( Hoping its not the pigs or goats)
