Figured it was my turn for once!

Plus this way I beat the rush to the bar.

Now I must return to the previous thread to relocate my Tunnock's secret stash.

Serve yourselves until the bar gerbils arrive.

I sort of want to hear what Grindle thinks of drinking hot chocolate straight from the bowser...

You slipped her a fiver didn't you?

Glass of Deano's water please gerbils.

BeLemonNow · 26/08/2025 21:28

Could I have hot chocolate too please? In a mug preferably.

Meths sounds a bit drastic, I don’t know what Grindle will say to you about that. Unless you literally don’t want to see your boat again?ConfusedShock

Eeeeek sending urgent Hedgehugs to my wife!

MarieDeGournay · 26/08/2025 21:43

Evening all.
Because I was away from the Bluestocking for a wee while, I'm finding it hard to get back into the swing of things - like waiting for the right bit of the music to start dancing , or is that just Irish dancing?
So I thought I'd better just post something, to get the hang of it againSmile

Catching up a bit -
AsWithGlad - thank you for those two posts yesterday, you nailed it about running out of stamina - not quite the same as fatigue I find - I can throw myself into an activity full of vim and vigour and then - 😞

Myrtle, - I'm so glad you're making good progress.

Fuzzy - I hope DH is improving. I'm half-watching Sewing Bee too, fortunately I missed the Grayson Perry baby-doll dress bit..🙄

Magpie - what does a magpie with a sore throat sound like I wonder?😦

Banned - meths? it must be bad! but I love how you are keeping standards up by drinking it with ice and a slice and tonic😂

Sorry if I've missed someone/something.
I notice that Swash isn't around much at the mo - hope you're doing OK as possible whenever you feel like popping in, dear Swash, we're here💙

The gerbils are reminding me of the video for Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues with all the sing - did I write 'the video for Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues'?.... a video in 1965? How did that happen?

Hey I think I've got the hang of the rambling post back again😁

Wimp!

Magpiecomplex · 26/08/2025 21:43

Wimp!

Yup wimp and uncoordinated. Shouldn't be a surprise you've seen me dance! 😜

ErrolTheDragon · 26/08/2025 21:50

I’m pretty sure a magpie with a sore throat sounds exactly like a magpie tbh.

BeLemonNow · 26/08/2025 21:54

A quieter magpie?

Well done on missing the baby-doll dress on the GB Sewing Bee, Marie, although most of the sewing was good.

There was quite an interesting conversation on the Sewing Bee thread (which falls under the Telly Addicts topic, not FWR) about Grayson Perry, with some posters saying they don't want to be part of his fetish and others saying why does it matter/it's performance art.

BeLemonNow · 27/08/2025 00:59

Interesting @AsWithGlad I'll have to add to my sardonic "what would you do if you saw a transperson in the wrong loo" survey.

Do you live as a woman all the time or occasionally as a performance artist? As a performance artist, is that a fetish or strictly artistic?

This is getting rather complicated. If only there is some simple rule about which loo to use...

AsWithGlad · 27/08/2025 01:07

I was only on the Sewing Bee thread during the programme.

Unfortunately a derail has since expanded between two posters (with opposite views on this) about who wrote what. How sadly familiar. Others just continue with discussing sewing-related topics.

AsWithGlad · 27/08/2025 01:11

@BeLemonNow
Do you live as a woman all the time or occasionally as a performance artist?

I rather like that, although I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to say it. The first part is almost sympathetic, whilst quietly indicating that they do not pass as female.

FourthInstar · 27/08/2025 08:45

Dropping in for a coffee while it's still quiet. Today has the potential to be stressful and expensive.

I think that whether someone 'passes' as the opposite sex is a red herring. The dissonance when a man doesn't triggers a primitive neural warning system for me, which is probably useful, despite making it uncomfortable and effortful to comply with social norms about tolerating men in female spaces and colluding in their con act.

In some ways I worry more about the people who've had puberty blockers and then cross-sex hormones from a young age. They may 'pass' more of the time, but their sex hasn't changed. We don't yet know what the full effects on their physiology or the risks they may pose to others. Some of the victories, e.g. in sport, are potentially quite vulnerable.

A bit heavy for the pub, sorry, but I get fed up of the emphasis on 'passing'.

You're right - 'passing' just means being better at deception than some of the other blokes😠

I hope your day goes better than anticipated... BTW are you new, or a namechanged regular? If you are new, you're very welcome and I think you're already got the hang of it here - space for the occasional rant, grumbles about the less pleasant realities of daily life, beverages and delicious cakes served by very cute but very professional rodents...Smile

Cute! Not-cute! Fascinating animal! Giant woodlouse! Animated melon!😮
As you can see, I'm undecided, but it is so cuddly that I think the woodlice similarity can be overlooked, so yes, a number of them for the Bluestocking garden, please, especially that sloping bit beyond the trees ..
Maybe we could instal a little ski-lift/funicular railway for them so they could spend all day rolling down the slope, without having to schlepp all the way up again on their little legs...Smile

I'm spreading the quokka-love.
Have a good day Bluestockingers.

There's a funny thing about passing that I sometimes think about. No matter how much time I've spent in England, I will never be able to open my mouth without outing myself as not English.

I could probably train myself to do a non-standard English accent (Scouse or Bristol or something) but RP is completely beyond me, and if I try the vowels always give me away.

Sometimes waiters ask me if I'm American. Cheeky skitters!

Boiledbeetle · 27/08/2025 11:25

If any of you ever meet me in real life I should warn you now I do not pass as a beetle.

I do however do an excellent job of passing as a potato!

I too, do not look like a lion. But you knew that.

Five weeks post-surgery before I can get the two week follow-up appointment!!!

The consultant is on holiday this week and next and the clinic for the following week has filled up. You may recall that he was on holiday for two weeks until the week before my surgery, so he was back at work for only three weeks before jetting off again.

Fortunately my GP surgery has agreed to change my dressings on Saturday at their sister surgery a few miles away, because and I quote, “It’s important you have this done as soon as possible and I don’t want you to wait till the middle of next week”.

I'm feeling really vulnerable about my care, as I don’t know how long I have to wear this boot 24/7 and elevate the ankle.

Fluffy non-feather pillows, a soft coverless duvet, cuddles from quokkas and Rosie and a vat of white wine, please.

Britinme · 27/08/2025 13:10

@SionnachRuadh I’m the same way - people remember me because of my British accent. I’ve lived here for 23 years now but I think that’s unlikely to change, because I was 52 when I arrived. My son was only 16 then though, and now at 39 he sounds kind of transatlantic, though more British when he’s talking to me or his brother or sister.

@MyrtleLion that’s good that you can get checked over sooner rather than later.
