If you don't think she is please don’t post. Please can you tell me specifically what she has said or done that is so bad. I promise that I will listen and not argue. If you could include links that would be great. If your inclination is to assume that I’m posting in bad faith and any reasonably well informed person must be stupid or bigoted not to know, then please just let the thread die.

Chose a pseudonym the same as the man who invented gay conversion therapy, then claimed it was ‘coincidence’.
Ok right. An intelligent woman with an agent, publisher, the internet and nobody checked. Yeah right.
She is a bigot filled with hate for anyone who isn’t straight and white. And she has devastated countless LGBT fans who thought, really believed, that she ‘saw’ them. Understood them. But no. Money and Hate are all she understands.

And she has devastated countless LGBT fans who thought, really believed, that she ‘saw’ them.

Leaving aside the conspiracy theory about 'Galbraith', nobody's wellbeing should depend on being 'seen' by a novelist they have never met.

If you genuinely cared about vulnerable people you would be much more concerned about the celebrities who exploit these relationships, at best making claims of love and allyship that can never be fulfilled, at worst behaving like Neil Gaiman.

The first strike novel was published in 2013.

No one would have blinked at the name until JKR started talking about wombs.

Its just another stick to beat her.

RedToothBrush · 19/08/2025 09:56

JKRowling could be the actual next messiah and she STILL would be 'getting it wrong' and not 'morally virtueous enough' for some of these people.

They just want to destroy her. And yet its supposedly her who is hateful.

And we are all supposed to not see this and pretend its not sexism.

Not being keen on JK Rowling makes you sexist…?

This is such a tiresome argument.
a) it's possible to try and reduce the harm of your consumption without being perfect
b) your average punter does not have the clout, platform and agency that JKR has with manufacturers. Though TBF she has lost some of it by burning up a lot of goodwill

Edited

Can JKR reduce the harm of her consumption without being perfect? Can she do some good in the world, or is she assigned to the baddies for being a human like the rest of us, i.e. flawed? Would you actually like her if she did everything her detractors demand she does?

I'm not a JKR fanboy - I have read better written books than she produces - but I am happy to defend her over the things she's not guilty of. She does have a sharp wit ("so sharp she'll cut herself") and I personally would prefer it if she restrained herself a bit more, but in her position I'd probably do worse.

By being spiky and unpleasant on her giant platform on social media.

Last reply from me for now, I have a meeting in a bit.

So it’s not what she says but how she says it. So if she said
please pretty please can Robert have their sex based rights you’d like her more? Do you not think women tried that for years.

They’re very BUSY you know, they don’t have time to keep up!

TheKeatingFive · 19/08/2025 13:30

I'd like to know the exact tone in which women are allowed to assert their sex based rights and the cessation of rape and death threats. What would be acceptable?

I have never read a JKRowling book.

Spiky and unpleasant? I see sarcasm which is all that nonsense deserves tbh. Maybe you were also being sarcastic?

Of course I was! It was in response to an earlier post by someone saying that JKR would be better off if she wasn’t so ‘spiky and unpleasant’.

Out of interest, do men talk to men about pants?

Here’s JKR being spiky and unpleasant again.

Why on earth does this dipstick think women talk about their bras on twitter all the time?

Either he's Searching 'bra' and seeing what posts come up or he's actively following accounts which talk about bras more than is normal.

He seems to think transwomen talk about bras all the time which suggests he's following a lot of transwomen who do talk about bras a lot and he thinks this is normal. Which probably says a lot about him and the accounts he follows.

What he hasn't got is a clue about how actual women behave and thinks he's an authority on what they do. He's got an idea in his head about women are and what women do and thinks this fantasy is reality and then mansplains to us all what being a woman is. He thinks knows more than actual women.

Which is utterly hilarious.

But I don't think we are supposed to point out what a nitwit he is and JKR certainly isn't being she's mean and evil and should remain silent so she's not accused of using the wrong tone.

Meanwhile fuckwit blokes say shite like this.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/08/2025 13:57

I’ve always assumed that guy was a bit of a chaser of “trans women”. Just my impression.

He does hang around with them more than seems normal. It doesn't seem a passing 'i just happen to know a few people who happen to be trans' does it?

TheKeatingFive · 19/08/2025 14:02

That guy is unhinged. I think he transed a child and now cannot cope with any commentary that's not total affirmation, 'stunning and brave', right side of history, etc, etc.

RobinEllacotStrike · 19/08/2025 14:02

I think he another one who will never give up as he transed his kid

I’m not sure I want to think about that 👀

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 19/08/2025 14:17

‘Women talk about bras’ no mate, we really don’t, creepy, obsessed men pretending to be women may talk about them but on the whole women don’t.

Coffeetime25 · 19/08/2025 14:27

what exactly word for word did she say?

what does social medias tell you to think about jkr?

what do you think she said

need an honest answer to all three so I can make informed decisions which I no is wrong as I should just do what sm tells me to and think how sm tells me to think but I like to think for myself

Shortshriftandlethal · 19/08/2025 14:30

Nobody is going to comply with the demands of the thread starter. It is simply provocative, as well as being down right ignorant.

Shortshriftandlethal · 19/08/2025 14:35

ThatCyanSheep · 18/08/2025 08:43

I never said she was embarrassing. Other people have labelled me as that.

I saw a really good post on here a few weeks ago about how there are much, much more pressing issues facing us. Our NHS being stripped, children living in poverty, the cost of living crisis. Things like trans people, the “boat people” etc are used by politicians as a diversion tactic to hide that they’re not doing anything to address the actual issues.

You do realise that JK has been a major supporter of multiple charities that support both women and children for many, many years, as well as being a major donor to the Labour Party. ( The first woman ever to have donated a million pounds to Labour) Most of what she does is hidden and she seeks no publicity for it.

You ned to expand your awareness beyond the confines of the twiitersphere.

Shortshriftandlethal · 19/08/2025 14:39

Viviennemary · 18/08/2025 08:50

Exactly. Just because somebody doesn't agree with you there is no need to act superior. J K Rowling is very divisive. She has managed to fall out with the main actors the Harry Potter films. I've got got friends whose views I don't agree with and they don't agree with mine.

No, JK Rowling is simply a lighning rod for the hatred of other people. The same people who have not been able to tolerate disagreement or dissent for many years. Most haven't even bothered to read her 'original' post...the one supposedly so controversial. People simply bitch about her because that is what they do to pass the time.
