You can't libel the dead. She can say what the hell she likes, he cannot defend himself (obviously) and her fans will lap up her version. Recollections may vary, as they say.

Coffeebeforework · 11/08/2025 08:49

Speaking as a Scot and lifelong SNP voter (no more!) who once viewed Sturgeon as a very capable politician I wonder how many fans she really has. I am sure that many people will take what she has written with a bucketful of salt.

brusselsprout5 · 11/08/2025 08:57

The rumours about Nicola Sturgeon & torrid lesbian sex affairs in hotels rooms have been rife around Scotland for years. Not sure I believed them & thought it was an attempt to smear her but it looks like they might be true. A dishonest politician - how unusual!!!!
I still thought she was great during Covid. Very measured, sensible & excellent at answering questions daily.

RayonSunrise · 11/08/2025 09:14

From the article on the case against Salmond, charges were dismissed by the court as being:

”Unlawful, unfair and ‘tainted with apparent bias’.”

Hmm. Perhaps that explains why the Scottish government had such confidence in NHS Fife? If you tend to run with the idea that the ends justify the means, it might become a bit of a habit.

The adultation she is still receiving from those she wouldn't piss on if they were on fire is really quite astounding. If you ask, reasonably, "Does [whatever] not concern you at all?" you get an aggressive response, designed to shut you the fuck up or you'll be 'dealt wi'. It's somewhat reminiscent of something else🤔

Coffeebeforework · 11/08/2025 10:06

@NebulousSadTimes.Think it would be very interesting to identify the demographic of the "true believers".

Coffeebeforework · 11/08/2025 10:11

Probably no surprises there.

Saladicious · 11/08/2025 10:12

Neither is her understanding of right, wrong or fraud.

Increase ventilation in classrooms. Not that opening the door would be hard.
No consideration about fire and the need for fire doors.

Up there with Trump suggesting injecting bleach

Edited

Lots of stupid suggestions at that time (though Trump and the bleach takes some beating). I remember our local council wanting to widen the pavements so people didn't have to pass within six feet of each other - because being closer than six feet to someone for a second in the open air is obviously such a high risk of infection.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/08/2025 11:08

Wasn’t she at the festival? Was there an audience? If so, presumably they bought tickets so guess they had a modicum of interest 🤷‍♀️

DrUptonsWallofSad · 11/08/2025 11:12

"An evening with Nicola Sturgeon" is happening at a venue near me in September... I wonder how many tickets they have sold. Personally I can't think of a worse way to spend an evening!

She'll be at Usher Hall in October, not part of the festival. Boris Johnson will be at Usher Hall in September.

KassandraOfSparta · 11/08/2025 11:30

Just a reminder. This woman is still a MSP. Her job - which she is being paid £74,507 per year for - is representing her constituents in Glasgow Southside.

Her job description does not involve writing self-absorbed books, or fannying about at the Festival or on stage at the Usher Hall. She has already said she will not seek re-election at the vote next May, so it would have been better and more appropriate to concentrate on the day job and leave the personal self-promotion until out of office. But then, Nicola does Nicola.

Not a double act, presumably?

I might actually pay to see that 😁

Nicola Sturgeon is all spin. You need to look at her actions not fall for her lies.

She is in the book festival, this Thursday according to the website. Sold out.

puffyisgood · 11/08/2025 12:07

This was always the rumour, that she considered her fighting for 'the trans cause', to and as we saw well beyond the bitter end, to be some kind of strange 'LGBT' penance for having stayed in the closet so long. I always believed the stories at the time, but, honestly, her making a semi-confession almost makes me believe them less, could easily be a cynical ploy to try & tempt in a few gullible would-be book buyers into hoping they're going to get a tartan-tinged take on 'Tipping the Velvet' rather than a tedious, self serving, political memoir.

Chersfrozenface · 11/08/2025 12:09

So Nic is at the book festival.

Is that the one that wouldn't invite sex realist authors? Where Women Who Won't Wheest aren't welcome?

Yes, that's the one. I'd have paid a lot to see Sturgeon answer to the Wheeshters! And I'd have paid just to hear the Wheeshters again.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 11/08/2025 12:53

Which isn't to say the Wheeshters were at the last Book Festival either, they weren't. I went to their launch event. I thought "The Women Who Wouldn't Wheesht" was too recent for last year's book festival but it turns out it's Not Nice Enough To The Right People for this year's.

ArabellaScott · 11/08/2025 12:59

She was my MSP. And easily the worst ever.

I've realised why she's made this daft 'not binary' statement about her sexuality. She can't use the word 'bisexual', because she's burned her bridges over sex being part of sexuality. She'd look absurd. 'Bigenderal' isn't a thing.

So the word she's probably reaching for is 'pansexual', but obviously she can't use that, either. So she has to pretzel her words.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 11/08/2025 13:21

Why can't she be "pansexual"? Apart from the fact that it makes her sound about 15 years old or like some kind of ancient hippie?

Chersfrozenface · 11/08/2025 13:51

But even 'pansexual' has the element 'sex' in it. And as we are all aware, sex is complex and unknowable and ultimately irrelevant and what matters is a partner's gender.

I did not know about the door ventilation! How interesting. Common sense?!

Why doesn’t she get behind the campaign for single sex toilets then? They’re the only ones with the bottoms ‘cut off’!

To be fair she does have a point with ventilation and pathogen build up. Particularly in a small enclosed place, with no natural ventilation, that can’t be cleaned easily with a door resting in a closed position for ‘niceness’ or fire regs. That’s why single sex toilets are recommended for health purposes in hospitals.

But classroom doors have glass in so at least you can see if somethings not right going on behind them. Or, in the event of a quick building emergency, that there are people in there. In classrooms there should be working windows (I know thats not always the case).
