And apropos of nothing, just a fun fact, a lady called Catherine Colonna was the French ambassador to the UK between September 2019 and May 2022.

Doesn't Val have a long term partner?

Yes, she is married to an academic called Jo Sharp.

NebulousSadTimes · 09/08/2025 12:34

She really does think the Scottish electorate have heads which button up the back if she really thinks she convinced anyone she was in a genuine, loving marriage. That's what bothers people, the lying and the disrespect.

It was reported on the BBC Scotland news last night that she thought the baby she says she miscarried was going to be a girl and she'd have called her Isla.

Like the pink leggings that feels like a not very subtle 'fuck you' to whoever doesn't fawn over her.

To be fair Isla is an extremely popular name in Scotland these days, I wouldn't necessarily see it as anything to do with you know what.

Jan168 · 09/08/2025 12:38

I'm confused, does that just mean she's bisexual, or does it mean she's attracted to men, women and also something else? The mind boggles.

Jo must be a very understanding person.

Isla is the most popular girl's name in Scotland and has been for ages. I don't think there is anything in that choice.

idontknowhowtodreamyourdreams · 09/08/2025 12:45

Who cares 🤣. I mean, it's great she feels comfortable talking about that if she didn't feel able to before, but honestly ..... I am inclined to think she's just trying to flog her book.

Another thread where we think it’s absolutely ok to speculate on or mock someone for their sexuality because we don’t like their views 🙄

Still, it gives you an opportunity for a drive by scold so it’s not all bad.

ApocalipstickNow · 09/08/2025 12:49

“buying a house from Judy Murray”

Is this a euphemism because I think it should be.

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 09/08/2025 12:52

JLou08 · 08/08/2025 21:19

What's the point of this thread? Genuine question. Things put on here are usually up for a debate, what is there to say about another person's sexuality?

Genuine question, what is there to say in answer to your question about ‘what is there to say about another person’s sexuality’? What’s the point of your question?

NebulousSadTimes · 09/08/2025 12:56

I think you'll find most people are saying they don't care. Why would we care? She's supposed to be a politician. I care about her policies not her sexual desires.

INeedAPensieve · 09/08/2025 13:31

lechiffre55 · 09/08/2025 11:06

If you genuinely think that then you have serious brain issues.
She's not being mocked for her sexuality she's being mocked for behaving like an absolute asshole while having absolute power in Scotland, and now trying to use her sexuality to deflect from how much damage she did while in power.
I don't believe your post was in good faith. No one can be that stupid and still remember to breathe.

Edited

Yep, exactly. No one gives a flying fuck about her life partners. It's what she's done to our country we care about. And the lying. And the abuse she dished out to women who pointed out the lying. And the betrayal of women and girls whilst telling everyone she's a real feminist, don't ya know?!

My rage for her actions will never cease. She betrayed the country, particularly women and girls. She betrayed the SNP too and what it used to stand for. But that I have less sympathy for. Teaming up with abusive men to try and strip women of our rights is something I can never forgive her for. The politics upset me less. I really wish police Scotland would grow a back bone as there's no way Murrell did it all himself. He's the fall guy and she should not be promoting a book, she should be answering police questions and giving tax payers our money back.

Hoppinggreen · 09/08/2025 13:36

While I think it is a shame that high profile women don't feel its ok to be gay and in fact she never would have progressed in her career as she did if she had said she was gay lying about it suggests a certain duplicity in general.
It also annoys me that claiming to be bisexual is now in many cases a more palatable option for public consumption than being gay.

If that’s how you want to think of it, so be it. I just can’t stand the double standard. Tell me, if it was someone on ‘our’ side of the argument, say J K Rowling, would you be so content if people made threads about her sexuality?

But as pointed out elsewhere, at one point during her reign both the Scottish Conservatives and Scottish Labour had lesbian leaders (Ruth Davidson and Kezia Dugdale). Davidson in particular was quite popular, for a Tory. There's really no reason to think it would harm her career.

I haven't read the linked article, but I understand Sturgeon herself has made this public by talking about her sexuality, whereas Rowling hasn't, as far as I know.

I couldn't care less about either of their sex lives.

maltravers · 08/08/2025 23:49

Personally, I do think it is relevant information. I don’t judge her for being a lesbian, I do judge her for concealing it. Especially because she was spearheading controversial legislation in a field where it seems she has “skin in the game”.

I imagine Scottish Lesbians, who intervened in ForWomen Scotland's Supreme Court case, may have some comment on Sturgeon's actions wrt same sex attracted people's rights.

ArabellaScott · 09/08/2025 14:10

KassandraOfSparta · 09/08/2025 12:08

Well if - as many people in Scotland - you loathe and abhor Ms Sturgeon and everything she stands for, you're not going to spend 1p of your own money to read her ponderings and misrememberings, are you? I wouldn't give that woman a penny of my money, ever. So the only people who are buying this nonsense (written while still a serving MSP, still supposed to be serving her constituents and earning £80k as a MSP) are the SNP faithful or those from outwith Scotland who have no clue what damage the woman has done.

Agree that at one point we had Kez Dugdale and Ruth Davidson heading up Labour and the Conservatives in Scotland, both openly gay and married to women. Patrick Harvie (the Greens chap) defines himself as bisexual. There are many, many other figures in Scottish public life who are not heterosexual. Sturgeon married in 2010 when she was 40. This was not some wee lassie who married in her teens and hadn't realised that actually she wasn't 100% straight.

She really does think the Scottish electorate have heads which button up the back if she really thinks she convinced anyone she was in a genuine, loving marriage. That's what bothers people, the lying and the disrespect. Also while during Covid she was forbidding us from doing anything for much much longer than other parts of the UK, she was allegedly having a gay old time with her "friends" in other houses. I couldn't even go to my friend's house for a coffee and a slice of cake.

My Right Thinking friends on the Right Side of History are big fans. It's downright weird. Some of them think that the arrests, Operation Branchform etc, were all political conspiracy. People are capable of astonishing levels of denial.

lechiffre55 · 09/08/2025 14:11

@Clafoutie
It's not about her sexuality, it's about her using her sexuality to try and gain sympathy and to distract from what an absolute asshole she's been in a position of high power.
Many many many people on the gender critical side are homosexual and no one here has criticised their sexuality in any way. To name but a few - Alison Bailey, Catherine Stock, Helen Joyce, Douglas Murray, Dave Rubin, Sal Grover ( being sued for making a female only lesbian dating app by a man cosplaying as a woman very badly ), the immortal Magdalen Berns, the list goes on forever. I would bet money that there are more same sex attracted people critical of gender intentity woo woo than heterosexuals, and that's without statistically adjusting by per capita.
You point is easily disproved as absolute bullshit with almost infinite examples.
You Sir, are a patently obvious fraud.

Genuine question, what is there to say in answer to your question about ‘what is there to say about another person’s sexuality’? What’s the point of your question?

The way your comment is worded by just flipping what I said tells me you are just being an arse rather than asking a 'genuine question' but I will respond anyway.

I didn't know what there was to say in answer to the question, hence me asking it. I did get a response from someone about them thinking it was wrong she concealed it. That answered my question about what there would be to debate about someone's sexuality.

Sturgeon, unlike JK Rowling, is a public servant, she is paid from the public purse, when she, or any other politician tells lies, it should be considered newsworthy and of public interest. She has put back the cause of women’s rights to further her career, she has accused women like me of being bigoted and racist because I believe in the material reality of biological sex, she put rapists in women’s prisons. It now appears that she made a sham marriage to also further her career, which means she is a liar and prepared to do and say anything to benefit herself. It isn’t about her sexuality, it’s about her lies. Making the comparison with JKR is false equivalence.
