M&S have responded to people's enquiries, here's one:

https://bsky.app/profile/dpdormouse.bsky.social/post/3lvuzitrplc2f

As expected the staff member was just doing their job, something that happens thousands of times a day in shops all over the country.

As per normal, the trans panic was manufactured.

I fully expect all the GCs and media pundits who were pushing all sorts of hate to apologise, but as a person on their second LGBTQ moral panic I know very well how it goes.

Now we just need a confirmation that in M&S world Female means actual females

That looks like a bit of an own goal by Molly now doesn't it?!

borntobequiet · 17/08/2025 18:11

Oh dear -

Molly added: “I think bra fitting is very important. An ill-fitting bra can lead to pain and discomfort.
"Being a woman in the public eye, I hope I’ll encourage other women and people with breasts to go more regularly to get fitted.”

cosimarama · 17/08/2025 18:11

Still dodging the actual issue. Still not addressing that a child in store for a bra fitting was randomly approached by a man who works for marks and Spencer offering to help her with underwear.

Seems like trying to fudge it as progress that men won’t do fittings when it was never him doing the fitting anyway. It’s the employee approaching children in the lingerie department that is the incident to acknowledge.

They are not saying this won’t happen again, or that the employee was, or was not right to approach the girl.

SigourneyHoward · 17/08/2025 18:19

Yes, @borntobequiet I was quite taken with Molly's efforts in using words with a meaning divorced from reality - 'in the public eye' actually made me laugh.

Look like whatever source the story is from took the time to confirm this

They confirmed the statement referred to “biological female”.

Good that journalists are wising up to this

Edit: spelling

SabrinaThwaite · 17/08/2025 18:50

Outspoken trans woman and activist Sophie Molly - also known as Sophie Sparkles - posted confirmation of a bra fitting on X in a Scottish M&S store on Wednesday, but redacted the location

‘Sophie Molly’ is as shit at redacting stuff as he is at trying to be a woman. Union Square. Aberdeen, next Wednesday.

If Damage Control PR is any good they will keep as low a profile as possible on that issue and quietly roll out training as a part the bra fitting policy review.

Contact the Mum and thank her for prompting the review of the bra fitting policy so that the event it self died a "slow death".

If they are stupid they give Mum redacted CCTV at the last possible moment and let it blow up again.

We'll see what options M&S come up with.

cosimarama · 17/08/2025 22:07

Yes and bet marks and Spencer’s first emails to the mum attempted this too - probably “reassuring” her that the employee wouldn’t have been doing the girl’s fitting because he works in clothing and homeware. Missing the point or avoiding the issue of why he was randomly offering to help this child in the lingerie section and will male employees keep doing that.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 17/08/2025 22:17

"It’s really not compulsory. My bras fit really well and I’ve never had a fitting. I can use a tape measure."

Well I thought this and then i went for a proper bra fitting. I looked like I had lost a stone in weight when wearing a properly fitted bra. I was wearing completely the wrong size.

Davros · 17/08/2025 22:49

I had my first bra fitting following mastectomy. I was 60 years old 🤷‍♀️ 👙

Hoardasurass · 17/08/2025 23:17

Sophie is still going to his appointment so we'll see if the new policy saves some poor woman from having to measure him on Wednesday or not

SionnachRuadh · 17/08/2025 23:28

I have a - probably optimistic - vision in my mind of Sophie being absolutely scundered on visiting M&S and meeting a male bra fitter.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/08/2025 23:30

Well yes, if they had trained up any men (of whatever “gender”) as bra fitters, Sophie could be the ideal customer to keep them occupied.

Datun · 17/08/2025 23:34

I really hope M&S can see this as the unequivocal opportunity it is. Any more fudging is just going to land them in further hot water.

Sophie can take his bras to the men's changing room, and a man can help him fit them. All perfectly legal.

murasaki · 17/08/2025 23:38

He'll never be able to prove he had a fitting, as no one will allow him to film in a fitting room. Of course this also means he can't prove he didn't. But if he claims he did, I'd expect M&S to issue a rebuttal given what they are now saying.

Of course Sophie will post triumphately (regardless of what happens) or do a massive doom piece if he's refused service (unlikely tbh).

Its not like reality matters.

However Sophie will successfully reignite the issue and give M&S some unwanted publicity - its the gift that keeps giving because M&S didn't deal with properly this years ago.

murasaki · 17/08/2025 23:43

I really hope they do the right thing as I've just been gifted a voucher, and I'd really like to spend it in the food hall. Where I'm happy to be assisted by any trans person should I need it.

Currently it's sitting in my inbox annoying me.

Yep M&S need to tell their CS staff to not reply to bra fitting complaints in writing and push issues back (up) to store level management.

Maaate · 18/08/2025 06:12

Sophie (and I suspect Willoughby to some degree) absolutely get off on the humiliation their antics throw their way - hence the escalation in utter tripe they spout.

Are you suggesting Sophie Molly is not a household name??!!

Shocked.

Anyway, do we know the time of the appointment? I have to go to Union Square, I need to know when to avoid M&S 😂
