Couldn't sleep in the early hours. Thought about houses.

Re punctuation, ‘bargerbils’ needs a hyphen. I read it as ‘barger bils’, which momentarily conjours up either narrow boats or shoving, and I’ve no idea what a ‘bill’ is, rather than our ever helpful bar-gerbils.

This is a very good point. I did think “badger” when typing “bargerbils”. Will hyphenate in future.

Bessie the consultant badger is standing by to support @MyrtleLion post-surgery - and anyone else who needs her tender paws. [It is you, Myrtle, who’s approaching the knife, isn’t it?]

Boiledbeetle · 08/08/2025 12:23

Meanwhile on a closed thread somewhere on the internet a Tunnock's hoarding beetle has yet to realise she's locked in the basement.

I know. I had one trying to eat my house on the last thread! 😱

Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.

Will someone come and let me out of the basement!

Hmmm. Why are you standing like that with your legs crossed, you look like you need the loo?

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 08/08/2025 12:37

Why chew wood when you’ve got an infinite supply of Tunnocks?

Magpiecomplex · 08/08/2025 12:40

Good point Errol! Ok Boily, I'll let you out.

We have Bessie the Badger, a consultant doctor, ever eager to sort out our aches, pains and niggles.
( Pictures on previous threads)

We have indeed, Fuzzy, I've been back to the 'Thread Gallery' on the last thread to retrieve a pikkie of Dr Bessie, and I can assure Myrtle that she is equally skilled with treating lionesses' paws, in fact her nickname back in med school was 'Androcles'Smile
I think Rupert's pal Bill the Badger was Bessie's grandfather..

I could have started this post with 'Morning all!' because I've just surfaced from a migraine - I was a bit hyper yesterday, which was either the cause - making a model room in one day was fun but a bit er... over-focused - or a warning.
Anyway, I'm OK now,

Pedantry Corner will be busy today, what with the missing hyphen in 'bargerbil' - similar to the missing hyphen in coworker, which always makes me think of those poor cows being orked... and Deano sharing her errant question mark trauma with us.

I have a theory that the disappearance of the hyphen is a case of technological determinism - if all onscreen keyboards are like mine, you have to go into an alternative mode to get any 'fancy' punctuation marks like hyphens, so my theory is that the screen-tethered generation just can't be bothered.

If I may admit to a spot of fangirling, I spotted our Marie recently pedanting (?) in Irish. I mean, bilingual pedantry?! That's SO Bluestocking!

Bessie says, after her challenging experience with the prairie dogs, that she will no longer permit patients to wield their own syringes.

Pufflings don’t have fangs, so this is unsurprising. Me and Myrtle OTOH…Grin

knittedsloth · 08/08/2025 15:39

slothconservation.org

says 2-fingered sloths have fangs, which are often black due to tannins
but
3-fingered sloths don't.

as a knitted sloth, I'm not sure if I count in the fang world.

that photo is not a knitted sloth skull sorry

I can’t really imagine knitted dentition qualifying as ‘fangs’ tbh.

Or fabric stiffening spray.

Which reminds me, I need to buy some.
