Be hilarious if MN censors it.

Jess de Wahls sells embroidered patches of Clitoria ternatea.

I have two on a denim jacket

I had them at the weekend.

Ooh er, nudge nudge... 😂

When I was a teenager I went on a walking holiday along the Yorkshire coast with some school friends and we met some German boys who were also walking. We did the same as your Trappist friend, @DeanElderberry, and cobbled together a good conversation from English, German, French and Latin - when someone didn’t understand one word we switched to another language to try another.

Well, I didn't like to say it, but my first thought was, 'What, all of them?'.

With that & Cake's clitoria, it's Smut Day in the Bluey. I only hope Marie, the Dean & Britinme are too distracted by thoughts of Latin & Trappists to notice us sniggering in a corner.

I need to do some work…
DH has gone out today with a couple of former colleagues, so I went for a nice walk along the canal. This turned into a vigilante balsam bashing session - the purple invader was at a level where I’m hopeful it can be kept under control. It would be a shame if the wonderful plant diversity along the towpath became a monoculture as has happened in many places especially near water. IMO it’s well worth pulling out and stomping on if you see the beginning of an incursion before it gets too much of a hold.

Of course part of that diversity includes nettles and brambles … shorts, tshirt and no gloves weren’t the ideal clothes. I think I’d better find the antihistamine cream and savlon.Grin

tempting, but I wouldn’t want to incinerate the other plants and whatever wildlife they harbour. Dragon skin otoh would be very useful.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 14/08/2025 13:56

I've sent help.

Wouldn't it be great if one could buy a dragon-skin suit? Like a wetsuit but way cooler.

Obviously made from vegetable or mineral fibre rather than the skin of an actual dragon.

Bannedontherun · 14/08/2025 15:08

Just imagining showing my new plants acquisitions off to friends and
saying earnestly “yes this is commonly known as the butterfly pea, or <in a Titchmarsh sort of way> proper name clitoriaternatea”

and the reaction……😯

BeLemonNow · 14/08/2025 15:19

@Bannedontherun hope you are growing it in your front garden / front window.

Afraid gardeners are a dirty bunch. I'm forever showing off my giant pumpkins.

Boiledbeetle · 14/08/2025 15:19

Don't mind me, Just showing off the latest additions to my photo album

Great pictures Boily!

And I think we’ve found the Bluestocking’s Official Flower, perfect combination of colour, beauty and symbolism.

lcakethereforeIam · 14/08/2025 15:40

There's a pink variety but I prefer the blue one. According to Wikipedia it can be used as a dye, to make a tea, it's edible and is used to reclaim land after human disturbance.

yes, the pink is a bit meh compared to the lovely blue.

I managed to grow a couple of Imperial Blue morning glories this year, their pure sky colour lifts my spirits when a see a few new flowers each day at the moment.

BeLemonNow · 14/08/2025 15:47

Definitely blue 💙

lcakethereforeIam · 14/08/2025 15:47

I've got some Morning Glories growing but I started them late and they haven't flowered yet.

Unfortunately Jess de Wahls has sold out of her blue Clitoria 😢

I never had any luck trying to grow them when I lived in Yorkshire, the time between last and first frosts just wasn’t enough. In Lancashire it’s still a bit tricky… the ones I put out fairly early are flowering but the leaves are rather yellow and not very healthy looking. The ones I kept indoors for longer - where they tried to get too tall - are greener and bushier but no flowers. But there’s a couple of months to go yet.

Britinme · 14/08/2025 17:04

I wonder how long Mumsnet pondered over the picture of that pink flower...

Love true blue flowers, especially morning glories.

Snap. Haven't had any much luck growing blue morning glories, but finally got cornflowers to grow this year and plumbago is reliably flowering its socks off. Delphiniums always gets eaten.

MarieDeGournay · 14/08/2025 20:05

I've been out all day and now we're no longer talking about Swash's mortar, Deanao's Trappists, and Myrtle's hind paws, but Cake's clitoria - honestly, I can't turn my back for a moment..🙄😁

lcakethereforeIam · 14/08/2025 20:09

Wait until next year when, hopefully, my Clitoria will be growing 😁

lcakethereforeIam · 14/08/2025 20:40

I might post pics.
