Those church vestments are surprisingly cheap, aren’t they?
They seem a bit shy about revealing what they are made from - I checked a few and only one said: it was 100% PE or PV or something, and I don’t know what that is. Also, the £52 one says “An additional touch of gold trim … prevents the fabric from fraying.” How much wear do they expect? The reviews I looked at aren’t very good.
I wonder how many Bluestockingers/ Mumsnetters also buy church vestments & other accoutrements?
I made 2 chasuble-and-2-stole sets many years ago, green and purple, possibly a third white set, too. The College Chaplain probably was quite High Church, but the Dean, who wore the deacons’s stole and has been described as a ‘radical theologian,’ definitely wasn’t.
About 25 years later I made four stoles for our Methodist school chaplain, at his request. Three took a long time, with lots of embroidery on them: the fourth was much simpler, made from a “Children of the World” tapestry fabric with a simple cross on the back neck seam. Guess which was the one he wore the most.
