Well - we are home - 11 hours of slogging through traffic jams after traffic jam, sweltering in the heat. It was almost a relief to get back to rainy Scotland!

FuzzyPuffling · 11/08/2025 21:14

GCLabRat · 11/08/2025 21:05

Mind yews, I'm not pozin'. Ize a reel ratty!

As long as you're a girl rat, that's fine.
Boy rats, off to the Staunch Ally with you.

FuzzyPuffling · 11/08/2025 21:16

Bloody hell, my ad is now Ann Summers, with naked bums.

Deeply inappropriate for me!

May I have the handbags back please?

lcakethereforeIam · 11/08/2025 21:16

Hello @GCLabRat don't I remember you from an earlier thread?

knittedsloth · 11/08/2025 21:19

Bannedontherun · 11/08/2025 20:47

Oh bless you don't be too self conscious, the people posing as hedgehogs, beetles, puffins, magpies, pirate, androids, sheds, foxes, dragons, lions, etc will not bat an eyelid, if you might be a bit “odd”

Oh good! So kind

thank you every one

Knitted sloths are adorable imo.

MarieDeGournay · 11/08/2025 21:53

Please stay, knittedsloth, we like odd🙃

Well done for surviving the return trip, Woley! It sounds like a nightmareSad
I currently have no ads at all. Either 'it; think my mind is bland and empty, or it is sulking because I laughed at their chasubles ads.

The vestments are all very Smells and Bells, aren't they, Fuzz? Mostly for RCs, but I found myself at a CofE church service once which was almost indistinguishable from a Catholic mass - very fancy vestments [now I know where they got them fromGrin], lots of ritual, making the sign of the cross, the works. Very High.

Welcome or welcome back GCLabRat, as the case may be. I'm interested to see how you get on with the gerbils... cousins?

Boiledbeetle · 11/08/2025 22:04

I see the @GCLabRat has escaped from Aston University!

And surely @knittedsloth odd is the main quality to fitting right in here!

Swashbuckled · 11/08/2025 22:09

My thanks/clapping hands button was missing earlier. It’s just come back. Was that just me?

Mine works, although I'm currently suffering from the dreaded draft saved error which is winding me up, I'm so sick of deleting what I've just posted.

GCLabRat · 11/08/2025 22:24

Swashbuckled · 11/08/2025 22:24

It’s back now. But for a while I only had thumbs up and love as options. Was wondering how someone could have been misusing thanks, and assumed it had been pulled like laughing was.

Just a glitch, perhaps.
What’s the draft saved error @Boiledbeetle?
I may have suffered it but need reminding of the possible pain.

Britinme · 11/08/2025 20:45

What does it say about me that I get adverts for pee pants and senior chair yoga exercises? (Don’t answer that).

that’ll be a transatlantic thing I think. Leastwise in my past experience US TV ads were much more likely to include that sort of genre than U.K. ones, with alarmingly abrupt transitions from the show.

My work computer thinks I’m in Paris which adds a certain je ne sais quoi

You’re welcome to sanctuary here. Sparticat, Colin the Dachshund etc know the Friends not Food rule. Word of warning though, I’d stay clear of our labs too, though I’ve not seen any perturbing output from them recently.

An example from earlier.

AsWithGlad · 11/08/2025 23:51

Those church vestments are surprisingly cheap, aren’t they?

They seem a bit shy about revealing what they are made from - I checked a few and only one said: it was 100% PE or PV or something, and I don’t know what that is. Also, the £52 one says “An additional touch of gold trim … prevents the fabric from fraying.” How much wear do they expect? The reviews I looked at aren’t very good.

I wonder how many Bluestockingers/ Mumsnetters also buy church vestments & other accoutrements?

I made 2 chasuble-and-2-stole sets many years ago, green and purple, possibly a third white set, too. The College Chaplain probably was quite High Church, but the Dean, who wore the deacons’s stole and has been described as a ‘radical theologian,’ definitely wasn’t.

About 25 years later I made four stoles for our Methodist school chaplain, at his request. Three took a long time, with lots of embroidery on them: the fourth was much simpler, made from a “Children of the World” tapestry fabric with a simple cross on the back neck seam. Guess which was the one he wore the most.
