Thanks for posting. Great news but also a great example of how language has been utterly mutilated to become incomprehensible to many readers.

The EHRC are not going to ban anything.

They are going to uphold the existing law.

They don't have the power to ban anything. They just offer advice as to the law.

HermioneWeasley · 07/08/2025 21:57

They can’t say anything else - it’s the law

drspouse · 07/08/2025 22:00

"The EHRC does know what the law is and can’t publish final guidance that is in complete contravention of the Supreme Court verdict, however much some might like them to.”

Perfect.

Thats just archiving, give it a minute.
It includes places like prisons, and nurses changing rooms, and women's centres yes?

Assume one reason to rush is before schools and colleges etc start back.

TIMs think the world has ended and seem to intend to ignore the law - https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1mk9t0c/sunday_times_got_an_article_about_ehrc_guidancel/
I do wonder if that will lead to males entering female spaces for this reason to be made a specific crime. One thing is for sure everyone will need to be on their guard

”It is not illegal for you to use the toilets you use. Go to the loo, and leave.”

JulesJules · 07/08/2025 22:15

This Times piece is so badly written.

SidewaysOtter · 07/08/2025 22:17

The trantrums are going to be epic - there seemed to be assumption in certain quarters that the final EHRC advice would be "updated" in some way. Except it hasn't been, because the law is the law.

Screamingabdabz · 07/08/2025 22:18

How ironic that some of the Reddit users would ‘rather go to jail’ than use facilities with men in them! Ffs. What planet do they live on?

Trans Reddit UK isn’t happy, is it?

What did they think would happen?

And as to the ‘EHRC is ignoring responses to the consultation’, maybe all those copy and paste ones that they were all egging each other on to submit have proved worthless. If you get 1000 versions of exactly the same response, then you can discount 999 of them.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 07/08/2025 22:27

That Reddit thread is a wild ride

Do not admit you are trans if you are challenged

I’ve yet to come across a trans person who could talk about much else. It’s ALMOST worth letting men with gender identities into the ladies lavs if it means they stop wanging on about trans constantly

SidewaysOtter · 07/08/2025 22:33

Trans Reddit UK isn’t happy, is it?

Is it ever? I do actually feel genuinely sorry for a lot of the posters there, they seem absolutely terrified of life/reality and I'm sure this isn't going to improve that.

hholiday · 07/08/2025 22:41

It’s good to see it leading the Times online. All those who dismissed this story as ‘niche’ down the years or ‘not an issue on the doorsteps’ - well, it’s now front and centre. Maybe try using some rational thought and having an opinion.

SabrinaThwaite · 07/08/2025 22:47

All the Trans Reddit crew have deluded themselves into thinking that they pass as women.

They're about to get a big dose of reality.

I think this is a genuinely important point and one that is glossed over all of the time. They really do think they pass, they tell each other they do, kind meaning friends or colleagues do and then they extend this out to the world, having been affirmed in their echo chamber for so long.

Couple of especially bonkers comments:

"Psychological genocide being implemented."

"I will die in a hunger strike in prison before I refuse to use service which should be rightfully mine. However, I fear that this is one step closer to our systematic eradication."

They thought they could bully the EHRC into changing their minds because legal dipsticks like Jolyon and Crew suggested the EHRC works like a consultancy rather than a body that advises on the law and gave them false hope. They were egged on by all these private companies and the public sector who decided to ignore the ruling and the preliminary advice because it's inconvenient and means they'll have to actually start to deal with their biggest TRAs by finally saying no to them. They also know that when TRAs start violating the law they are going to have to carry out disciplinaries and it's going to get pretty messy very quickly. Women are not going to tolerate men who try this on. HR departments (or is that EDI departments) are going to have to do some work and Google and copy and paste and update their training sessions.

Well that's their choice.

If they choose to ignore the law and stage a protest then they are exercising their freedom of speech.

That's a freedom women haven't had for a while.

It’s taken a decade for Stonewall Law to get deeply embedded into organisationsN ow they’re finding out that Stonewall misrepresented the law and having to unwind to what the SC has confirmed was always the law is going to take a bit of doing.

All else aside, I try and feel some pity for people who genuinely believe this, and genuinely believe they have changed sex. Instead of getting the holistic, full person mental health support they needed - some trauma or other has pushed them down this route, and then everyone close to them has allowed them to self deceive.

ten years + of the legal machine waking up and they are, rightfully from their world view, very very angry and cannot comprehend things.

Genuinely think society has failed trans identified people comprehensively. The human fall out from this is going to be large.

"I won't be excluding myself from the bathroom or gym changing room"

Of course my patience for this rubbish runs out immediately when a man says he will force his way into my daughter's changing room.

They can’t say anything else - it’s the law

Under David Isaac’s reign, guidance was produced that didn’t comply with the law and instead reflected activists preferences, so it’s not surprising that that the TRAs expect their lobbying to deliver what they want.

Circumventing public debate and drafting/ redrafting policy and guidance to reflect the law as they wanted it to be, not the law as it is (the Denton strategy) was always going to fail. They believed the momentum created by this strategy would bring permanence. They thought the Contact Hypothesis that worked so well for same sex attracted people (ever growing numbers of being ‘out’ and increased exposure to gay people, resulting in reduced hostility and fear) would mean that by the time people realised the law wasn’t reflective of what was happening, without issue, no one would object.

However, the Contact Hypothesis that served same sex attracted people does not apply to trans people. A significant proportion of people with trans identities are damaged, damaging or both, and this is evident to those who spend time with them. This is why the Denton Strategy was destined to fail.

I am not surprised by the levels of denial and disbelief TRAs are experiencing. Their self perceived ‘gains’ and ‘rights’ were a mirage but they experienced them as tangible because nothing was in the way of acting upon them as if they were real.

Most TRAs do not seem to recognise that there is no going back and the genie is out of the bottle. Their misrepresentations of the law have been exposed, their success with avoiding scrutiny whilst making significant headway in influencing policy and practice has led to intense scrutiny that would never had arisen if they had been more open from the start.

Their reaction to all this is exacerbating the phenomenon that is the opposite of the Contact Hypothesis. I think this could be called the ‘Let them Speak’ hypothesis!
