Have a great time, everyone who is going!

OllyBJolly · 08/08/2025 16:34

Thanks for posting, OP. I don't live in Glasgow but I'll be in the West End tomorrow so I'll head in early and catch this.

I attended the one in George Square and found it uplifting and moving. It's a great idea - just let women tell their stories, refusing to be drowned out by the antics of the rank misogynists behind the barriers.

naomisno1fan · 09/08/2025 06:35

It’s local women who organise local LWS events not KJK herself.

Men just really can’t stand women speaking out about male behaviour can they?

Well I'm a woman and I don't like hearing discriminatory rhetoric and couldn't care less whether that is spoken by a woman or a man.

I think you'll find the vast majority of women are the same, it's not exactly a high bar.

Why are local women choosing to invite someone is promoting employment and housing discrimination against trans people? Why are they listing her presence as a trump card "A small dinner with Kellie-Jay" ?

I do feel sorry for you. Life must be so difficult if you can't bear to listen to what anyone has to say because they once said something you disagree with. It must be so hard to have to stay home, avoiding contact with other people, and never watch TV or listen to the radio just in case someone says something you don't like.

I wish you all the best in your solitary life where the only sounds you can bear to hear are things like soothing music (obviously instrumentals only in case the lyrics offend you).

Haha you are having a laugh - I am frequently on Mumsnet FWR reading content I disagree with, I seek it out, and don't really bother to read content I already agree with as to my mind that is a waste of time. I don't need to bolster my opinion in that way, I already know what I think.

I don't 'like' it, no; to my mind no right-thinking person should 'like' hearing clearly discriminatory rhetoric. But I believe it is important to challenge it, instead of letting it become normalised in society, as we are seeing at the moment.

If you really do have an open mind, I suggest you watch the livestream of today's event, or some of the earlier events which are on youtube.

In the ones I have watched there were some very moving speeches made by women from all walks of life who are given a platform to talk about their experiences and about issues which concern them.

KJK says a few words at the start but after that she hands over the mic to other women to speak. The event is called 'Let Women Speak', and that's what happens. The event really isn't about her, it's about all the women attending and letting them speak.

I was just about to post this and then reread your post, and noticed this:

I already know what I think.

This implies you don't have an open mind at all, which is a pity, but I'd still urge you to watch either today's event or one of the earlier ones to see what sort of issues concern the women who attend.

suggestionsplease1 · 09/08/2025 09:45

I always smile when I read the attempts to encourage people to be more open-minded about becoming closed-minded.

Refuse to platform and headline a person who transparently calls for housing and employment discrimination against trans people and of course many more people would be interested in attending.

Why are you so invested in including men in women’s spaces and scolding women standing up for their sex based rights. You seem very keen on making all spaces mixed sex. Why is that? Why do you believe the wants of a man demanding access to women’s spaces should trump those of women who say men should be excluded?

But you’re on the same side as Nigel Farage, who believes people from other cultures should be excluded. So you’re ok with refugees being excluded from countries but not ok with excluding men from female spaces. Why? What’s the reasoning?

Did you even read my post?

'Platform and headline'? What on earth do you mean? KJK started a series of events where other women can speak. Other women organise events local to them for other women to speak at. The people who are being 'platformed and headlined' are other women, not KJK.

If you still can't understand what I'm saying, there's no hope for you. Too closed minded to even read a short post explaining why you seem to have got the wrong impression about what happens at these events.

Or perhaps you just don't want to let women speak.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 09/08/2025 10:47

There's a lovely compilation of speakers from LWS in Glasgow a couple of years ago which gives an excellent overview of how a large LWS goes. It was made by Alice the Journalist. I found a lot of the stories extremely moving.

If you don't understand that speaking at an event organised by a person with manifestly transphobic views indicates to others that you at least tacitly also support those transphobic views then there's a lot you clearly don't understand either.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 09/08/2025 11:17

@suggestionsplease1 I'm curious, what do you actually want from this thread? Is your intention to change minds or are you just here for a fight?

Wait, what, @suggestionsplease1is a reform supporter and a Nigel fan? You honestly couldn’t make this up 😂.

Another for the best ignored bin. Hope today’s event goes well today.

I didn't think I'd need to point this out but of course this is absolutely fantastical whimsical fabrication.

Some people on this thread perhaps have an iota of intelligence and know when they make false claims along these lines that, although they are fully aware that they are making false claims, they might possibly manage to mislead some readers a bit.

With @Annoyedone I'm actually not so sure what they really think due to their reasoning skills being such a low level.

As I've said earlier, I think some people may not be aware of the extent of the transphobia that Kellie-Jay Keen /Posie Parker advocates, so I think it's important to bring this to attention wherever possible so that people, when they go along to these events, have full understanding of what they are turning up to, who they are supporting and lending credibility to through their decision to stand alongside them.

That way fewer people can claim to be ignorant of this and they have to reconcile their decision to be present.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 09/08/2025 12:58

KJK knows what a woman is and so do the women who go to LWS, that's why they're there.

Call us transphobes if you like, we don't care.

It is perfect thank you as it gives people like me, who have witnessed first hand, the terrible instances of men who come to work in their fetish gear.

So for me, he turned up for a meeting with me, on a friday, at lunchtime, when the kids who visited our work location [usually we had 3-4 coaches of kids mainly primary] would be preparing for lunch. I didn't know it prior to the meeting but he had booked a day's leave that day.

I was sitting in the cafe in a location that I could see the car park, to witness a man in his 50s, with his wire curly balding hair put into pink pigtails, dressed as Little Bo Peep. Mary Jane shoes, little socks, pink gingham dress that was little more than a belt and frilly knickers.

As he came walking up to me, I went into flight or fight and froze...and all I could do was stare at the empty spaces where the coaches would have been had we had kids in that day. He stood over me and said he trusted me to look through the document that we were supposed to be reviewing and waltzed off into the saff area.

I hand on heart, don't care if these people are not given work when they bring their fetish with them. I note that his current job, which is quite prestigious, does not use him in their promotions or even mention that he works at the place that he works at. Even though they showcase all their other staff.

I did not give permission to be part of his fetishistic sex life. And it was the reason I decided to go when my contract was up and not reapply for my own job. Why is it ok for women to have to walk away to avoid these men, and not for them to be kept away from women just trying to be normal and do their job properly?

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 09/08/2025 13:38

I don't care if we are called "transphobes", I don't care about associating with women labelled "transphobes", or women who have been marked for expressing "transphobic" thoughts.

We have reached a point where "transphobia" has been so over-used it's been rendered meaningless.

Yeah, gone are the days when so many women prefaced their points with "I'm not transphobic, but I'm concerned about...".
