NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #43

nauticant · 25/07/2025 15:21

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence had been intended to be 28 July with 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing was to have ended on 30 July. However, it became apparent as the hearing progressed that this schedule wouldn't be followed.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

Good spot, casting JKR as Zola.

Sandie needs to find the Bluestoking for some light relief. How can we tell her?

I like to do a hybrid version, whereupon I gaze out of the window, all lady- of- shallot like, think “One day, I’m going to have chickens and make jam from the garden”, and then go back to watching 90 Day Fiancé and eating Aldi value chicken tikka chunks straight from the packet.

It's quite easy to just take the first step, don't be intimidated about future steps.

A young woman who I find has a lot of useful advice goes by the handle of wildlychlo (Chloe Taylor) on TikTok, Instagram and Youtube.

She's a Yorkshire lass (I think?) who explains things very simply.

Going back a bit… another Pratchett and Heyer fan here, and I make jam (but not bread). Any other Jodi Taylor fans here? If you haven’t read her Chronicles of St Mary’s series, you should treat yourselves. First one is called Just One Damned Thing After Another. St Mary’s is an offshoot of the University of Thirsk and they study history in contemporary time.

As well as all the Pratchett titles, we also have every Heyer novel and they are all well-used. I've never heard of Jodi Taylor, but the one you mention is now on my Kindle to try.

I’ve just re-read the Facebook messages. Please excuse the less-than-feminist language, but Lindsay comes across as bit of a sanctimonious bitch, doesn’t she? Who in the world thinks “Sandie here is having an awful time, and is clearly scrabbling for something to bolster her case. I’ll know, I’ll give a little public speech about her poor accuser, just so she knows she probably deserves it!” ?
You didn’t have to say anything, Lindsay!
I found the bit about the police checks particularly annoying - what has that got
to do with anything?
I used to work with a man called Steve - he’d been police checked but he still loved to tell us all about his holidays to Thailand and how “the girls treat you like a king out there” 😷😷

All this fruit picking, jam making, knitting, crocheting, and assorted stuff...

Am I the only one who lays around all day in my pyjamas getting stoned?

Shoulders with Beetle there!

I leave this thread for 24 hours and find fewer than 500 posts made in the meantime. I realise it's the weekend, but really.

You lot. You're going to have to up your game.

I’m afraid as well as the Pratchett fan stuff I also make jam and bread, keep chickens, and grow veg in my raised beds. My plum trees are heavily laden this year so I imagine it’ll be a jam heavy year!

Igneococcus · 26/07/2025 21:17

Does anybody have ideas for raspberries? I eat some (lots) everyday on my yoghurt but we're having a glut this year and there are already two large bags in the freezer for winter. dd who can eat her own bodyweight in fruit is sadly out of the country at the moment. I suppose I could make jam.

Bannedontherun · 26/07/2025 21:19

Raspberry jam is glorious. 😍 Well worth having a few pots for visitors even if you're not much of a jam eater yourself.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 26/07/2025 21:30

Do you have vodka?

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/drink-me-raspberry-vanilla-vodka

I’ve also been making jam - an updated Eliza Acton recipe called ‘Groseillé’ gooseberry and raspberry/loganberry - the fruit is sieved after the first cooking, which attracted me, after the ghastly memory of the time my mother made a huge batch of gooseberry jam, and it was horrible because of the skins and pips. We still had to eat it, every last jar-full…

Plus I made gooseberry curd (bumper year for goosegogs!). I made the latter in the microwave- so much quicker than in a double boiler.

I agree so much. From the Facebook chat reported in the first Times article linked above:

Lindsay: "Your daughter is gay and is therefore part of the LGBQT community and I wonder how she feels seeing her mum make such an issue about all this."

Sandie: "I'm so sorry for upsetting you Lindsay. It's a completely different issue altogether and nothing to do with being gay. Nicole is 100% in agreement and it is my gay married MP who has talked me into it and helping the lawyer."

Huge Terry Pratchett fan here. Back in the late 80s, in my public librarian days, I happened to hear an episode of Equal Rites being read on Woman's Hour on a day off and was instantly hooked. Borrowed the book, hooked DH and both teenage DC and the rest is history. I remember reading the whole of The Wee Free Men to all three grandsons at one time or another, despite being rubbish at accents. 😊Also rather a fan of DL Sayers and jam-making...

Massive Pratchet fan here as well. DH (then DBoyfriend) introduced me to him at 19, at Uni. Was lucky enough to hear Pratchett speak in the Oxford Union, when Thud was released (got a signed copy).

Have his complete works on my bookcase. Except the Shepherds Crown. Still can't bear to live in a world with no more new Pratchett books left.

Love making jam, chutneys, all things Tolkein. Knitting too, and science. Medieval history and castles. And steam traction engines.

I’ve been catching up on yesterday’s action and threads. I was struck by Jim Borwick’s CV posted by @Waitwhat23

'Stop making such an issue about being forced to undress in front of an entitled 6 foot man who I've never met but have decided is the most marginalised and vulnerable™ #bekind'

Yeah Lindsay can fuck off. Whoever she was imagining Upton to be, I bet it's not who he's been shown to be. Yet she felt entitled to judge Sandie and to try to criticise her as a parent into the bargain.

#bemoreSandiePeggie Lindsay.

You're probably right, I'll have to possess my soul in patience.

(Btw, I perhaps should have said when I namechanged, I'm not a stranger to FWR and of course I know I'm far from the only observer on here right now - I hadn't thought through how the nn might make it look as though I was claiming that, so sorry if anyone was irked. The way the tribunal makes us use full real names makes me nervous, though, so I took a new nn in an attempt to lessen the chance someone connects my real name with my mn identity because of something I say I saw in the tribunal.)

I'm relatively new and have no idea who anyone is, if that helps!

I didn't mean to shout you down I was just thinking aloud as I typed so I'm sorry for shutting you down.

I am really hoping the new witnesses can help Sandie. I don't think either were on the original witness list so I am hoping they may be people who have come forward or who were identified in the late disclosures.

I have kept thinking about Smug Lindsay with an a from FB, and I think that convo is an something JR would have loved to use to discredit SP about in cross-exam unless there was a reason to let it drop. So I'm guessing there is either something bad or nothing at all worth pursuing for Fife relating to that group. Hopefully something very bad that we will learn about on Monday!

FannyCann · 26/07/2025 21:43

Jim appears to have much in common with Cormoran Strike. My guess is he has been retained by JKR for serious cyber security protection which I’m sure she needs. I bet she picked his brains for the Ink Black Heart and I think Strike visited his former Military Police offices to do a bit of research with the help of his mates in a previous book. Career of Evil I think. So any connection and brain picking will go back a long way. Bearing in mind rumours of the source of funding for Sandie’s legal expenses I think it’s not a coincidence that Jim Borwick was the forensic IT guy they chose.

Anyone in the room able to comment on his appearance? As in physical similarities to Strike?
