Brighton meet-up

GC and have the triple whammy of being young, working for the NHS and living in Brighton. It’s incredibly diffficult to find like-minded people nearby and it’s feeling pretty lonely to not have anyone around where I can express these views without people thinking I’m mad. People often assume I’m a TRA just based on my age and where I live. It’s bizarre. I can’t move for the forseeable for various reasons. Anyone in Brighton or Sussex who would be interested in meeting up or having a chat?

OP I could have written the same post! I’ve given up mentioning it because everyone here seems fully TWAW. I’ve been meaning to go along to a sister’s salon meeting for a couple of years now, but I don’t know how to explain it to my husband without starting an argument (he’s on board with the majority Brighton opinions).

I’ve tried to suss out who at the school gates might be secretly GC but the numbers are few and far between.

Try WRN?

ArabellaScott · 23/07/2025 12:23

SEEN healthcare, too.

RoyalCorgi · 23/07/2025 12:28

OP, we'll be descending on Brighton en masse in October for FiLiA - the town won't know what's hit it. Are you coming to FiLiA? It'll be a great opportunity to meet lots of Terfy types. Or if you're not coming, you can still join in with the pub meet-ups.

Sorry - not in Brighton.
But just to say I feel your pain. I'm 21, on London/Surrey border, travelling daily either to work in Epsom or uni in central London, and apparently I'm "in the wrong body".
I'm "supposed" to be wildly in favour of TWAW etc etc.
Some people even wonder whether I'm a spy, "pretending to think men shouldn't be in women's spaces"!
Sorry won't continue but feel free to comment.

musicalfrog · 23/07/2025 14:51

I'm very confident there are more of you in the local area than you might think. In Brighton people probably stay quiet more often for obvious reasons.

Good on you for starting this conversation, and may your numbers continue to grow!!!

@donkey86 yeah, it’s definitely not easy round here. My partner seems to feel pretty uncomfortable about me being GC. Good to know that you’re out there, send me a PM if you ever want to chat or meet.

@NPET yes I’m also attending uni and finding that that is the worst place for it. There’s only one viewpoint that’s allowed.

I am not in Brighton - or young but I feel for you - it must be very difficult. I am very left wing and loads of people I know have assumed I am full on TWAW when I am not, in any way. I have a few left/leaning friends who would say they are ‘feminists’ but I can’t see how they can be as they are so TWAW.:.

There's a conference this weekend in London where it is possible those attending may well find women who live nearby are also attending. See https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5374930-wdi-international-conference-26-27-july-2025-london-online

Brighton Salon Sisters are closer to WPUK GC than the WDI aren't they?

And many from WPUK are now part of FiLia - not forgetting the famous FiLia workshop that led to the legendary Elephant in the Room thread on FWR! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4662757-womens-place-uk-filia-event-the-elephant-ignored-yet-again?page=1

I'm lucky in having a small select band of friends ("galmates" as we call ourselves) at uni who agree with me. But, yes, the majority think their view is the "only" view.

Hoosemover · 24/07/2025 17:32

Have you considered joining Let Women Speak Local. They have an active group in Bristol.

Lonelyasacloud9 · 24/07/2025 18:03

@Hoosemover thank you for this. I hadn’t heard of that before.
