All women welcome, pull up a pygmy hog, the bargerbil will serve you a drink, the flying squirrels will bring you something to read and the goats will do...I'm not entirely sure.

There may be more than the usual amount of chaos as we transition to the new thread.

I missed the wedding in real time and it was a divorce by the time i logged in. I was so overwhelmed with elation joy and grief all at the same time that i resolved to transition to a hedgehog at some point in the future to avoid any such situation.

Of course there was the added attraction of being featured more in AI and such like…..

It's a good shout, being a hedgehog, if you want to feature in AI - I'm currently a lady from the early C15th.

I think I shall henceforth identify as a hare.

And try and get AI to play with me again - it was a dead loss last time I tried.

I agree about the manspreading figures. It's like the frillification of girlhood, pervasive and impossible to ignore once you spot it. When I was young (c1400, see above) 10 year old girls ran around all summer in jeans shorts, nondescript t-shirts and plimsolls, and 90% of what they wore could have been put onto a boy without anyone thinking he was transitioning.

Now girls have sparkly trainers, shorts with flower patterns and t-shirts smothered in hearts, or unicorns, or sequins, or all three.

And the boys get all the usable pockets.

Honestly, this thread is as bad good a 'The' thread for moving so fast it's easy to lose your footing! so many things since last night - In reverse ferret order:

Sionnach, that has to be one of the cutest pictures ever, and that's saying something on this thread! It's like the cutest mummy duck with her ducklings picture, only it's a mummy capybara and her... capybarlings💕
Who knew they did the ducklings-being-taught-about-water- pose for the camera?

Edith, I didn't realise you were a lady from the 15th century! I'm a lady from the 16th-17th century, so you were a few classes ahead of me but we must get together sometime and chat about growing up Days of Yore. It could be ruff, couldn't it?Grin

The current young girls' fashion fad that's troubling me is those very short tight shorts that are more or less knickers, so there are very young teens looking like they've forgotten to put any outer clothes on their lower half and are walking around in their underwear.😧

Memo to self - do not go back a page to check what happened next or I may lose this post!

I can see why you coveted that model, Boily! In railway modelling, that would be a 'diorama', a scene that is static. My kinda scene, cos I didn't know how to do the electrics, and to run a train around you need a huge amount of space.
Your scene has given me ideas for what to do when the Bluestocking is finished.
It's nearly there, but model-making can be drawn out infinitely - a little addition here, a tweak there. So I'll miss the Bluestocking when it is declared 'finished', and it will be good to have a new project to replace it, so thanks or the inspiration Boily.

I loved Inky's digger in action - it would explain why so many infrastructure projects fall behind schedule😁

Let's see - then there was Banned recalling The Wedding of the Century, which I recall was one of those shallow celeb wedding - blink and you miss them.
But I'm glad you've both done OK and can be in the same pub together now without any awkwardness, that's a big achievement.

I remember after break-ups not wanting even to be in the same London Borough as my ex, and sending a pal into a club or pub to make sure she wasn't there with her new girlf before I went in.
You are very mature people..well, not people exactly, but you are very mature about your divorce😄

Nearly time for the Tribunal to consider the statement released late on Friday when 'the NHS Fife squirrels hit the Red Bull'!

Later, alligators!

  • yes we do, in the pond in the garden, didn't you know?🐊
MarieDeGournay · 21/07/2025 09:42

I remember now - there was also a discussion about the number of model figures manspreading - good point. And the Lady in Red was showing a fair bit of norkage, as I recall.
One of the category of model figures offered by one company is 'Ladies of the night'🙄
And there's a superior kind of model that plugs into the layout's electrics and moves, so you can have lumberjacks actually sawing logs etc.
One company sells a model of a couple in bed that er... moves...

It's just as well railway modelling is now so expensive - e.g. £230 for a locomotive - that it is a grown-up's hobby, because catalogues and websites can be very unsuitable reading for children! 'Muuuuum -why is that lady sitting with her legs like that and no clothes on?'😱

EdithStourton · 21/07/2025 09:56

'Ruff' indeed, Marie! Streets smelling of sewage and horseshit...

I took my DC to Amsterdam once. Luckily I was substantially taller than they were and could see what was, er, coming up down one particular alley, so briskly guided them in another direction. Unluckily that involved passing the shop with a mannequin dangling upside down from the ceiling by a chain, whilst wearing bondage gear.

I was glad to arrive at a pancake restaurant without having been asked lots of awkward questions.

EdithStourton · 21/07/2025 13:33

<takes break from work and feels major hunger pangs>
<wanders into the Bluey in search of lunch>
<finds the place deserted and the bar staff watching tractor videos, playing Monopoly - no fights as yet - and trying to learn to knit>
I take it that you're all either engaged with your day's work, at at the tribunal?

I feel your pain, Edith, but my DC were teens when we went to Amsterdam. The shop window full of sex toys was briskly ignored in favour of "Now, where IS that cheese shop?" 😂
Fortunately they were no more keen to discuss the shop contents than I was!

Tribunal then optician. Now in Costa catching up as I have to kill an hour before my next thing.

Our little gerbil friends are so sweet, aren't they? Keeping themselves busy while we all focus on the antics of Red Bull-fuelled squirrels from FifeSmile

EdithStourton · 21/07/2025 18:04

Can we keep those squirrels out of the Bluey? There is enough chaos here already.

I'm keeping an eye on the Monopoly. It's going very slowly because Groundsel, who is in charge, keeps referring to the rule book. She says it's to prevent arguments, but the players are getting very tetchy.

lcakethereforeIam · 21/07/2025 18:08

I'm going to do it! I'm going to give the gerbils a set of Uno cards.

She's also trying to steal a hotel while no one is looking!

Fine! But you can clear up the mess after.

Just remember to teach them Wild Draw Four etiquette.

I’ve never come across Uno. Is that something to rectify or be glad of?

I've no idea I've never played it

lcakethereforeIam · 21/07/2025 18:57

It's one of those games where you get dealt so many cards then have to try to get rid of them all. Your opponents fellow players can play cards that mean you have to pick up cards, you can do the same or they can be reversed and backfire. The games are usually quite quick, much faster than interminable Monopoly games. As it's only a card pack it's good for taking on holiday.

OP posts:
FuzzyPuffling · 21/07/2025 19:17

I play Uno with my granddaughter. I often forget to shout " Uno" when I have one card left. I'm not sure if that's a rule or one of GDG's idiosyncrasies.

MadisonAvenue · 21/07/2025 19:23

Uno is fun, there are variations of it now but the original card game is great.

@FuzzyPuffling Yes, you must shout Uno very quickly. If you don’t you have to draw more cards

lcakethereforeIam · 21/07/2025 19:46

God, remembering to shout 'Uno'! My youngest is an Uno demon. Takes no prisoners. She doesn't get it from me.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 21/07/2025 19:58

I’m very bad at remembering the rules of card games. DD was genuinely shocked how good I turned out to be at Cheat though.😂

FuzzyPuffling · 21/07/2025 20:07

I can't even remember how to play " Cheat", but I do remember being very good at it as a child. "Poker-face Puffling".

Britinme · 21/07/2025 20:33

I love card games and used to play them a lot with DH1 but sadly DH2 was not brought up that way so doesn’t know any. Although he cooperates if I try and teach him his heart clearly isn’t in it and he’s basically being polite which spoils the enjoyment. My DGC don’t play either. Sigh.
