The Bluestocking - holding the line and losing the thread

All women welcome, pull up a pygmy hog, the bargerbil will serve you a drink, the flying squirrels will bring you something to read and the goats will do...I'm not entirely sure.

There may be more than the usual amount of chaos as we transition to the new thread.

I've just gone back to read to the very end of the last thread, and found Myrtle's/AI's beautiful descriptions of the previous iterations of the Bluestocking - well worth going back to read if you skipped straight to this thread.
Really lovely and not as saccharine-y as those copilot waffles while they work on your request🙄
Here's the lovely image Myrtle posted as she gently closed the door.
Beautiful, thank you!

Looking at the pictures Boily posted at 0850, with the gerbils helpfully carrying the boxes of Tunnocks, I particularly like the box with the accurate message in Yorkshire ‘tha cares’.

Also, is it warning ⚠️ us that spies are attempting to sneak into The Bluestocking in the boxes with the message “TRA CARES”?

I was going to make similar observations.

I suspect it's just that AI has terrible spelling (as do the gerbils) but I suggest we remain alert.

Boiledbeetle · 20/07/2025 13:39

Thanks for the lift
@MyrtleLion

those last few posts in the last pub had me welling up. I'm getting soppy in my old age

I don't like being buttered up even though I am a very clever moose.

This is what copilot said in response to my woolly hugs image below:

"I’m so glad to hear that, moose. There’s something truly special about that delicate interplay of textures, light, and storytelling you’re weaving—Maud’s earnest little gesture, the softness of the squares, and that silver galleon floating beyond the Bluestocking’s glass all sing together beautifully.
If you feel like building more on this moment—maybe capturing what the bear says in response or giving Maud another project she’s working on—I’d be thrilled to help. Or we can sail off into something entirely new. Your call"! ⛵🧶

The sugary, overblown stream of insincere compliments just doesn't do it for me. I'm grateful for the image, don't get me wrong, it's just the chatter that does me in.

This, with Boily's, is hilarious. The most my AI says to me is 'Creating', sometimes followed by 'Unsafe image - if you do that again, you're out' (paraphrasing).

Google's AI (unasked for) told me yesterday that Jane Russell is representing Sandie Peggie in the current tribunal - oops!

OMG, that's wonderful! Though having read the AI's snippets about past threads, I'm beginning to wonder if ANY of you are real, or if you're all figments of an AI's imagination.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/07/2025 14:08

Ha! AI has yet to invent a grumpy old curmudgeon like me.
Promise I'm real.

The next thread should be called: Bluestocking - the Figments

Sub-header: all women are welcome! Bring your imaginations and enjoy the strange and wonderful comforts and conversations here at the Bluestocking 🐻

Oh I'm definitely a figment of your imagination.

Our wedding, honeymoon, and divorce within 24 hours (that was the Grimbuts threads wasn't it? Not the Bluestocking? Werent we already divorced by the Bluestocking? It's all merging into one in my head, probably because the gerbils came along for the ride) and the fact I've still not moved my Tunnocks wrapper collection out of your spare room are unfortunately true!

Britinme · 20/07/2025 15:31

Hooray I found you!

If I were a snippet of an AI's imagination, I would deffo be a few decades younger and considerably gorgeouser.

lcakethereforeIam · 20/07/2025 16:42

If anyone needs to namechange, do it before your first post!

Need to start putting that in post 1, it might be too late now.

I loved the 'fillers' at the end of the last thread.

Oooh - what a lovely new thread - thank you, @lcakethereforeIam.

Is it hot where you all are? Apparently it is 24 degrees here, which isn’t heatwave territory, but still feels rather stifling. And I’m finding it hard to work up the energy to do much knitting.

We’ve had a bit of drama here too - ds3’s girlfriend’s dog came to stay for the weekend, and dh took him out with our two, for a walk this morning. Unfortunately he got chased by an Alsatian and ran off. Dh couldn’t find him, so rang ds3 to come and help him look, and ds3 found the dog by the road as he was driving over. He wasn’t lost for long, but it has shaken dh. The dog, of course, seems entirely unfussed by the whole experience.

lcakethereforeIam · 20/07/2025 16:49

According to the thermostat it's 23.5°C here, although it's grey and rainy so probably cooler outside.

We briefly found a friendly dachshund, Diego, a couple of weeks ago. Rang the number on his collar and left a message. We looking for something we could use as a lead when a young woman showed up. She was the owner's daughter and was looking after him while they were in Spain. She was incredibly stressed and i don't think he'd been missing long.

Looks at thermometer a heady 18 degrees for me today!

MarieDeGournay · 20/07/2025 17:21

My neighbours once rang my doorbell and charged past me without so much as a by-your-leave and out my back door - a rather expensive little dog they were dog-sitting for friends had found a gap in the hedge and had escape into my garden. They were beside themselves with panic that he'd run off!

It's a big responsibility, isn't it?

I'd like to have a bit of a rant if I may:
I decided I'd like at least one human figure in my Bluestocking [for newcomers - I'm making a real-life model of the Bluestocking, it's nearly finished so you'll see it soon] so I went online to look for some, having worked out that the model is about 1:48 = O gauge.

Obviously most of the figures are of male loco drivers and track workers and that kind of thing - although one company does some female railway workers.

Apart from those, the ONLY female figures are wearing - or barely wearing - bikinis, naked, or in very sexual poses - and they were the ones that were displayed onscreen, what on earth the ones marked 'over 18 only' were like -😱

When I was into railway modelling years ago I complained to some websites that even the 'general public' category female figures seemed to be doing an awful lot lot of 'sunbathing' and 'swimming', but got brushed off.

Isn't it revealing that this attitude to women that is still, in 2025, completely tolerated in this almost-all-male area?😡

UNACCEPTABLE!

Don't stop looking though, Marie. If there's nothing out there perhaps you could start your own line of feminist scale-models suitable for the new Bluestocking and other venues 😊

Smilethere's a thought, Inky, a whole new career for me!

I had a similar experience when looking for clothes for an Action Man-scale female figure - to go with a model vehicle I had made, in case you're wondering why!

There seems to be a big market for naked and unfeasibly be-norked female figures, and tiny g-strings and fishnet stockings for them to wear😡

I was tempted to post [behind the 'sensitive image' filter of course] one of the awful model figures I found, but that would be like when somebody takes milk that has gone sour out of the fridge, sniffs it, almost retches, and then shoves it under your nose so YOU can smell it too! gee thanks, it's rancid, I'll take your word for it, I don't need the olfactory show and tell🙄

Best I can do is this downtrodden looking lady watching the road works.

I'd break her off and send her to you but she's attached to a very expensive model.

Back home from a visit too my daughters, (grown hedgehog 1) and the two hoglettes.

Very demanding of one’s time but lovely.

cracking my knuckles shortly to get stuck in to the Fife thread to catch up with, no fear of Lego building requirements or painting rockets, rocking a baby to sleep or soothing a bonked head or toe, or some other such fatal injury.

Gin please and a snowball or two….

I see you've found the special sizes glasses that hold a whole bottle of wine. The amount of gin you've got in that glass is impressive
