It's International Non-Binary Awareness Day today!

I logged on to work this morning to find our corporate Intranet has announced that we are celebrating International Non-Binary People's Day today. Apparently today falls exactly half way between International Women's Day and International Men's Day (whatever that is). There's a load of shit about what it means to be non Binary and some links to useful sites to learn more - including to Stonewall.

Give me strength. Why does senior management promote this bullshit?

It's like this grinding relentless non-stop "today it's International Transhungry Day when we celebrate people who sit on the intersection between being hungry and non-hungry as an integral part of their lived experience and identity. Denying their existence throughout time is Hungryphobic. Now look at the people through history (who we've totally made up "history" for) who were Transhungry, we've shoehorned in all the usual suspects like Marilyn Monroe, Shakespeare and Homer..."

I'm in two minds about this. I think that makes me binary.

Everyone is non-binary. So today is just a day when Barbie and Action Man/GI Joe sit at home with their sad faces at a being excluded from a world party.

I do think they should have done some thinking and put all the Alphabet Soup Twitter Holidays in Pride month though, it would have given them focal points for the month instead of dragging it all out and making people roll their eyes at regular intervals throughout the year. As an LGB person I get so tired of all the different days I'm supposed to semi- pay attention to for various friends.

Someone on Reddit Labour was complaining that something they didn’t approve of was in “Pride Season” ie July. So apparently nothing is allowed to happen that inconveniences them in a quarter or so of the year. Luckily most people roll their eyes at their self-important nonsense, including in “Pride Month” itself.

Every day is non-binary awareness day for me, I was 'born standing up and talking back' and have lived my whole life rejecting socially constructed binary gender stereotypes.

So when your corporate intranet invites you to celebrate 'non-binary' awareness day, you could imagine me, and lots of others like me, just living our lives as everyday common-or-garden what's-the-big-fuss non-binary gender-stereotype-critical folx

Let people be who they want to be but why’ have we got to “celebrate” them. Why are companies spouting this shit on their intranet sites and shoving it down the throats of their staff? I think it’s going to end up having the reverse effect ie people are fucking sick of it. I WILL not “celebrate” the fact that you don’t know what sex/gender or whatever it is we’re calling it this week same as I won’t “celebrate” gays. Let them do their thing. I’m not interested

it may be a good day for absolutely everybody to come out as non-binary.

As an agender person of female body, I'm not entirely certain if I'm also NB because neither of us have a fixed gender, or if the Enbies are my sworn enemies because they have extra gender.

Anyway, I like enbies. I think they have the right basic idea about people, they just got a bit tangled with the Genderist shit and don't realise what they experience is called "Being a complete human not a cartoon character" and definitely doesn't need surgery or hormone fuckery to be valid and real.

What about those of us who identify as neither binary nor non-binary?

I'm feeling a distinct lack of corporate HR celebration tbh.

For starters, we need at least two days, 1/4 and 3/4 of the way between International Women's Day and International Men's Day (whatever that is).

It's going to end up like Zeno's paradox if they keep dividing things up like this.

Supra-meta-nonbinary types will have to be on rotation, alternate days but probably not Wednesdays because Wednesdays are, like, boring.

July 14th will always be Bastille Day to me, and the French know how to have a firework celebration unlike the small ones in the UK to celebrate Robert Catesby and Guy Fawkes's failure.
