It's International Non-Binary Awareness Day today!

I logged on to work this morning to find our corporate Intranet has announced that we are celebrating International Non-Binary People's Day today. Apparently today falls exactly half way between International Women's Day and International Men's Day (whatever that is). There's a load of shit about what it means to be non Binary and some links to useful sites to learn more - including to Stonewall.

Give me strength. Why does senior management promote this bullshit?

Analogue day?

Very retro. I vote for dinosaur day.

BiologicalRobot · 14/07/2025 12:24

July 14th will always be Bastille Day to me, and the French know how to have a firework celebration

That's probably why they've latched onto it, like the leeches they are. Next year they will point to the French and say "see, this is how a country celebrates and respects NBs!"

When do grumpy middle aged women get a day, or did I miss it?

It's going to end up like Zeno's paradox if they keep dividing things up like this.

Was thinking about this in actual seriousness this AM. Not Zeno's paradox but how the Ancient Greeks (I think) calculated pi by having smaller and smaller straight lines until they were infinitely small and they had a circle. I was optimistically thinking maybe Genderists (the nice misguided "your sex doesn't determine your personality" ones not the "sex isn't real so why won't you let me look at your body" ones) would eventually find so many variation to label that they gave up and said "you know what, it doesn't matter, just be you".

(And while we are on maths and curves, I suspect there may be a super geeky dy/dx, integration vs differentiation joke to be made, with affection of course, about NB)

Everyone is non-binary. So today is just a day when Barbie and Action Man/GI Joe sit at home with their sad faces at a being excluded from a world party.

I love this!

Non-binary people smashing stereotypes by casting them in iron!

In my day, we just called it personality.

SueSuddio · 14/07/2025 12:30

Hopefully we can have a Binary Day for all of us idiot Barbie's and Ken's.

Will crack out the lippy, flowery dress and high heels.

WorriedOnion · 14/07/2025 12:49

As an LGB person I get so tired of all the different days I'm supposed to semi- pay attention to for various friends

Bloody hell, I can't imagine ever expecting anyone, even those closest to me, to even notice the allocated day for my health condition (which I didn't choose to have and which doesn't define me although it affects every second of my life) let alone pay attention to it for me.

Do they actually expect you to comment on or acknowledge it @WomenShouldStillWinWomensSportsIsBack ?

ArabellaScott · 14/07/2025 12:53

Vector Day, maybe.

chattyness · 14/07/2025 13:00

Send a new email to everyone & remind them that it's actually Emmeline Pankhurst day and you would much rather celebrate that instead

The search bar on my work computer tells me what special day it is.

Turns out that today is…..
…..World Chimpanzee Day!😂

I shall celebrate appropriately😂 but considerately (by not baiting any anti-evolutionists, I was never a fan of blood sports).

Whoopee! I hope they’re throwing a party to celebrate. Or at least providing all staff with free drinks at lunchtime 😂

Rolling my eyes in solidarity, OP.

Staff drinks at lunchtime isn't going to happen - I work in Local Government.

In fairness, it is an Awareness day and not a day of celebration, so not even an excuse for a party😣
It's also the feast day of St Ulrich of Zell, who must be feeling a bit crowded out these days....

FigTreeInEurope · 14/07/2025 13:31

It's important to be aware of all the number bases. Hexadecimal in particular gets unfairly overlooked.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 14/07/2025 13:34

When is sexagesimal day eh? Very under appreciated and given that it’s been going since the third millennium BC, it has genuinely always been with us, or at least since the dawn of written communication

I demand a 60 sided flag

Gettingbysomehow · 14/07/2025 13:36

It's a bit like living in Glastonbury. We have a fairy festival, a goddess festival and a dragon festival. All celebrating the mythical beings of the land 😂

It’s the most inclusive of bases without getting silly.

And my goodness, the one thing no one wants when it comes to days of visibility is silliness

<nods seriously>

Sexagesimal based rights!

AllMumsyWereTheBorrowedClothes · 14/07/2025 14:03

The Vatican via google saved me hunting out my ancient childhood prayer book - though the maths seems a bit suspect given that Sundays are generally held to be 7 days apart!

Septuagesima Sunday - about 70 days before Easter,
Sexagesima Sunday - about 60 days,
and Quinquagesima Sunday - about 50 days

I always loved the words when I was small - so pointlessly long and complicated 😅

Toseland · 14/07/2025 14:05

So it's 'women have to conform to sex stereotypes or you are not a woman' day.

I so agree!
This might be outing (I'll take the risk), but I used to be a dab hand at analysing hexadecimal dumps.

Sounds painful.

No worse than octal dumps, trust me 😀
