Apparently, in addition to him being the "true victim" in the BBC's investigation (see his statement of yesterday on Instagram where "nothing was done to investigate my disability" or "protect me from...a dangerous environment"), his "friends" now claim that incidents such as him opening doors with a sock on his penis while he shouted "hooray" were due to his autism which, in turn, meant he couldn't wear underwear.

I have no words other than to say I know quite a few autistic people. Not one of them behaves as, or uses autism to excuse being, a sex pest.

Whoever is doing his crisis PR has really pulled out all the stops.

Gregg Wallace’s autism means he can’t wear underwear, say friends

Sources close to ex-MasterChef presenter claim he has ‘hypersensitivity’ to tight clothing and his condition is partly to blame for his inappropriate behaviour

Oh dear, poor Ggreg will now have to sit and wallow quietly in his millions.

Cattery · 11/07/2025 10:54

Good! The man’s a giant helmet

CarefulN0w · 11/07/2025 12:06

I’m glad the mail has quoted disability charities. GregG should not be attempting to blame a disability for his despicable behaviour and it is shameful that he has tried.

SionnachRuadh · 11/07/2025 12:32

The fact of him already having had coaching in 2019 will be a big factor. The BBC can then say, we did what we could to train him to behave appropriately, but he's just not capable of it.

Similar in some ways to what's panning out in Hollywood with John Cusack and his antisemitic memes. You reach a point where nobody's willing to work with this guy.

The theme of which seems to be "He was warned but didn't listen".

I don't know the ins and outs of the accusations, I'll be honest.

But I do think there is a culture of hunting down men on TV for behaviour that once was considered 'ok' (over flirtatious behaviour towards females guests/sexist 'banter' for example) and publicly witch-hunting them and judging them by today's standards.

Today, we (thank god ) know better and women are treated far more equal and it's now socially unacceptable to paw at women on TV and treat them like some kind of pretty little dolly that's good for groping and treating like they have an IQ of 30.

But there is balance. I think when behaviour is historic we have to be careful about whether the public frenzy and blood thirstiness strikes the balance over the actual alleged 'crime'.

Can you remind me of a time when opening your door naked except for a sock was acceptable?

Also the sort of behaviour that’s now not ok was only just acceptable in the 80s - 40 years ago - I’m quite happy to have a problem with men cocky enough to think that they can behave in these ways despite having 40 years to learn not to. At what point do you say it’s ok to let it lie?

When you try to pass it off as "bantz"?

I've worked in a male dominated industry for nearly 30 years.Apart from a couple of colleagues who, maybe 10ish years ago, followed that stupid trend of wearing your jeans halfway down your arse, I've no idea (neither do I want or need to know) the underwear status of any of my colleagues! There has definitely been banter and misogyny, but thankfully never any opportunity where someone got their tackle out. It wasn't ok, or in any way normal, in the late 90s, when i started and it isn't ok now.

That is utterly glorious writing. Well done Marina.

Let's face it, if he thinks he's been discriminated against he should take the BBC to court.

He has recently got an autism diagnosis according to this article. I wonder when that happened and why that happened.

If he didn't have a diagnosis when working at the BBC how can he expect the BBC to have 'protected him' on the basis of a diagnosis he didn't have?

If he's got a diagnosis to try and retrospectively have a stick to beat the BBC with, good luck with that given the sheer length of the rope he was given by the BBC to hang himself.

There's no way they won't have sought legal advice on this given how much of a twat he is.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 11/07/2025 13:54

murasaki · 11/07/2025 13:11

That is fucking brilliant. He will be seething if he reads that. No doubt he will think she's just another middle class - insert misogynistic slur here - who should STFU.

Hopefully he just shuts up and fucks off now.

SidewaysOtter · 11/07/2025 14:09

Marina Hyde knocks it out of the park again - that is GLORIOUS ❤️

Well written Marina. Unfortunately GW won’t see it for what it is, to him it will just be another middle class middle aged woman piling *on to him.

Imagine what it was like in the 80s but then again, I don’t recall anyone with no underwear 🤔

SionnachRuadh · 11/07/2025 15:36

I don't know if Gregg knows this, but there's a diversity of designs of men's underwear these days. If he would prefer something loose fitting, they have that in the big Asda up the road.

We're not living in the Soviet Union with a People's Central Gusset Department making sure everyone gets their underwear in the same style.

2025ismybestyear · 11/07/2025 15:47

Who are these men? The man who abused me as a child said he was under stress with work and a bad marriage. That's all right then. Twat.

I don't know much about autism, but clearly he's taking bollocks, but I'm sorry to all those who are upset and hurt by his comments and attempt at justification.

Tell that to someone who has been assaulted, groped, raped, etc. Just because it was years ago doesn't mean it doesn't still hurt.

Sunshineismyfavourite · 11/07/2025 16:35

Just another example of a fully grown adult refusing to take responsibility for his actions. Laying the blame at the door of his employer, his disability and anything/anyone else he can try to justify, just shows the man that he is. Twat.

Fizbosshoes · 11/07/2025 17:10

The usual stance is to say they're very sorry that they had to face any consequences for their actions and sincerely regret any hurt or offence caused, and for that reason they were told to leave are stepping down from <insert position>

I mean it's all scripted bs and probably most men are only sorry they got called out over the behaviour (or their wife left etc) ....but it's seen as the appropriate/borderline acceptable response. Surely some of his pr team (if he has one) have suggested that approach....?

He's said he won't go quietly.....which I suppose shouldn't be a surprise given he doesn't appear to do anything quietly!

ChompandaGrazia · 11/07/2025 17:29

Rather convenient this diagnosis. I wonder how much that cost.

As for why women didn’t report it, well it’s the imbalance of power. If you are a young researcher just starting out you are not going to have the confidence to tell anyone straight away. I bet he managed to keep his cock inside those nasty pants of his while he was in important meetings with producers or in the company of men.
