Some recent news articles on how JKR's bank balance is continuing to grow she will just have to find more charities to fund. This is before the potential huge profit from the TV series hits in 2026.

Harry Potter's 2024 Max Viewership Numbers Reveal How Many Users Still Stream The Movies
According to numbers provided by Digital-i, (via Deadline), "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" was viewed over 40 million times on the Max streaming service last year. Though not widely regarded as the best "Harry Potter" movie by any means, being first clear counts for a lot. Digging deeper into the numbers, director Christopher Columbus' film reached nearly 20% of Warner Bros. Discovery's total subscriber base, which is pretty remarkable...
That's almost certainly why Warner Bros. Discovery is moving full-steam ahead on the "Harry Potter" TV show for HBO and Max, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2026...

For all of the controversy, the franchise, even beyond these streaming numbers, is evidently popular. "Hogwarts Legacy" was the best-selling video game of 2023, generating well over $1 billion in revenue for Warner Bros.

However, in its trading update for the year ended February 2024, the firm reported that revenue rose 30 per cent year on year in 2024 to £342.7m, while pre-tax profit soared 57 per cent to £49m.

Yes! You say that, but that one book shop in San Francisco has stopped stocking Harry Potter books. That’s got to make an impact 🤔

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 27/06/2025 18:12

Read 'em and weep JKR haters. 🤣

Plasticwaste · 28/06/2025 17:31

Lovely to read and implies much about the silent majority.

Igmum · 01/07/2025 13:23

Wow 🤩 now let’s add on the theme parks, the shops and sections of shops dedicated to HP merch - my mind is boggling already. Cheers JKR ❤️ you wonderful woman you.

Apparently Hogwarts legacy 2 is confirmed…

CommanderVim · 18/08/2025 22:00

Hurrah! JKR is incredible, a true hero for our times. Plus the she's going to make an absolute killing when The Hallmarked Man is released. I like to think she swims in a massive pool of money like Scrooge McDuck. I truly love her ❤️

Superhansrantowindsor · 18/08/2025 22:14

Not surprising. The vast, vast , vast majority of people either agree with her or couldn’t give a shit about the whole issue. There are thousands of people who don’t like her and are very vocal about it but the figures speak for themselves.

Well no you can't really. Seeing as one wouldn't exist without the other.

Dominoodles · 18/08/2025 22:51

You know what really sucks?

I love JKR and want to support her as a person, but I just can't stand any of the modern Potter stuff.

I was the biggest fan ever as a kid but the newer movies and games are just disappointing and make me not want to spend money on them, even though I like her.

Don't be ridiculous. You can separate the art from a person ... I think she's a divisive horrible person but love her writings

You sound quite jealous? Maybe try writing your own books?

TheBestWasYetToCome · 19/08/2025 06:13

The continued success of all things Harry Potter speaks volumes about how most people think, even if they don’t feel able to say it aloud.

I can’t wait for the new series. The sooner I can watch Harry Potter without certain actors in it the better.

SharonEllis · 19/08/2025 06:27

Also the Strike books and tv series continue to be popular.

I can’t.

I genuinely don’t see how you can enjoy a book or a Lego set or some hufflepuff pyjamas knowing that is supports someone who you think is a horrible person.

I’m reading the Strike novels because I feel the opposite way to you.

EsmeWeatherwaxHatpin · 19/08/2025 06:50

I’m with @Maddy70 in the sense that you can absolutely separate art from artist. If I applied a moral stance to all the authors I read based on their personal views I’d lose loads from the bookshelf.

I happen to agree with JKR in her feminism and love the worlds she has created. But even if I didn’t agree with her I'd be able to enjoy her work.

You may disagree with my take but I think it’s a common one and there is no need to be disparaging. Maddy didn’t sound jealous at all, she said she loves JK writings.

fromorbit · 19/08/2025 06:52

JKR
I read my most recent royalty cheques and find the pain goes away pretty quickly. 7:18 PM · Oct 13, 2022.

It is all a show.

Hardly anyone stopped actively liking Harry Potter as she said herself even if they claim to dislike JKR . She had no dip in popularity the franchise keeps making more money. Remember many JKR Haters are big indirect supporters of the franchise and JKR's bank balance. They are always talking about her and making Harry Potter trend that is why it is gaining popularity. The more popular it is, the more it trends, the more money JKR has to do good works.

It is a win for everyone - even JKR haters who get to put on a show of how much they hate her online, earn clicks and make her work go more viral. It isn't actually about undermining "transphobia" it is about being a huge victim because a children's author believes biology is real. They could make a video about how billons of Muslims are often sexist believers in the gender binary, but nope another two hour long examination of how evil Hogwarts is what they really need to do. They just made liking Harry Potter edgy and rebellious which is hardly going to make it less successful.

This all helped make Hogwarts Legacy the biggest game of 2023 and they have been giving the TV series lots of publicity.

Hogwarts Legacy is getting a huge raft of new, free content

Hogwarts Legacy gets a ton of new content that you can download for free right now. Despite being snubbed at ceremonies such as The Game Awards, when Hogwarts Legacy arrived in February 2023, it became one of the most popular games of that year with Harry Potter fans.

Hogwarts Legacy was the Wizarding World action RPG that Harry Potter fans had been waiting for, which is a large reason why it became the best-selling game of 2023.

Do you investigate all the beliefs of a writer before you read their books? Or do you only apply this to JKR? Are there books that you now retrospectively dislike because you have found out something horrible about their author?

I think the point being made is quite a few of her 'haters' have been very performative about saying how they will boycott her and all her works and encouraging everyone who supports them to follow. I mean, they held a harry potter funeral in a book shop at one point which they filmed and streamed so they've gone to town with it! They were all convinced that everything released now would be a big flop. And it clearly isn't!

No to both questions. But I wouldn’t spend my leisure time settling down with a novel written by someone I actively thought was a horrible person.

I don’t do a background check on new friends, or old ones. But if I think they are a horrible person I don’t seek them out.
