"Of course I'm a woman! I was wearing a dress with make up, tights and a handbag!"

Reddit TIM is shocked that, despite featuring all the major components of a woman (a dress, tights, a handbag, and make up), they do not fool anyone.

I rarely wear any of the above, so it is a miracle that I am ever correctly identified as a human woman.

On a serious note, I am concerned that the TRA movement, despite being based on gender stereotypes and mental ill-health, will continue to have power because of the volume of and their capacity for emotional email-writing. Do we need to write to our MPs with regularity to ensure our voices add balance and sanity to the outcries of the emperors and their new clothes?

@Greyskybluesky "Always v amusing to know they're keeping an eye on the mummies tho'. They can't resist looking 👋"

Although I'm glad to know their sad, envious male eyes are on FWR, I can't resist looking at their subreddit either. A group of men attempting a pathetic impression of us certainly provides entertainment.

My favourite of their threads are the ones where these men claim to have periods.

I was - astounded-, shall we say, and not a little repulsed.

By and large, I’m 🙄 about So Much Nonsense on r/MtF (Reddit; blokes who think they’ve magically become female) but that was creepy and gross.

"Well he clearly didn't have a bow in his hair. Everyone knows females wear a bow to show they're female. Minnie Mouse and Ms PacMan for example." @WomenShouldStillWinWomensSportsIsBack

And Scrub Mummy. She is the multi-task version of the Scrub Daddy sponge, who not only must appear cheerful while washing up, but also be ✨adorned✨

And pink. Don't forget that all women and girls wear pink.

This is what actually peaked me, frozen red ice cubes in the pants (fetish), this was close on the heels of hearing about the the cotton ceiling (rapey).obviously the rapey thing freaked me out the most but the period simulations made me go “yup that there is a fetish”. And oh god the videos of the grown men acting like they are in labour because of their pretend period.

Those videos! God they are so cringe inducing.

"Let me roll around on the bed in what would be totally unsuitable clothes if I actually had bloating, stomach cramps and flooding, whilst I clutch a hot water bottle and try to unconvincingly act out what I think (when I'm wanking) a girl would be like in this situation. Look watch me fake crying whilst I whinge in a high pitched voice, that totally makes me sound nothing like a teenage girl but a porn addled man, about how awful my period is. And then I'll perk up a bit when I discuss the best places to find fully soaked fresh sanitary pads from public toilets"

And they wonder why women don't want them in our toilets

tobee · 25/06/2025 23:14

Surely that original Reddit post is just a giant parody? Is it panto season already?

tobee · 25/06/2025 23:16

I don't want to piss all over your point with your picture of Mr Bowie, but, granted the first photo is David in a dress, but isn't he just in a pair of ginormous 70s flares in the photo with Angie @MassiveWordSalad ?

I doubt the story is true, it's all part of the fantasy of whoever said it happen. But if it did, well done that copper 👍
I'm in a dress today because I've been up the smoke to visit a relative, but no tights, no make up and a rucksack instead of a handbag, does that mean I'm not a women or that nobody will think I'm a 'trans' and misgender me?

Maybe a points system to determine whether you’re a man, a woman, or non binary?

Dress - that’s going to be a big hitter for lady points. Give that 10 points.

Tights - if you’d been wearing them that would be a 10 too (maybe even bonus points based on the weather) but you’ve had a bit of a fail there. Nul points because real women would put up with a sweaty conker box because … tights (giggle).

Make up - since you weren’t wearing any you haven’t womanned properly. Nul points again.

Rucksack - unless it’s pink and fluffy that’s going to be another fail.

I’m sorry to say you’ve failed your womanning test, unless you asked a copper for directions and he / she immediately correctly sexed you based on you being an actual female.

worstofbothworlds · 25/06/2025 23:34

I vote you get 1 million points for being an actual woman and you have to have over 900,000 points to be a woman so they can all sit over there clutching their haaaandbags.

OMG have I been womanning wrong all my life?

I never wear pink.

And babies -
Those little pink crocheted headbands with bows they put on girl babies just to make absolutely 100% certain that the socialisation and stereotyping will start from Day 1, and that the baby won't be traumatised by being misgendered.😡

My infant DD was wearing a pink pinafore dress and someone asked how old my little boy was. Of course, they may have known that pink is actually for a boy (referencing St. Joseph who always wears a variation on pink) whilst blue is for a girl (thus invoking the protection of the Virgin Mary)!

Enough4me · 25/06/2025 23:58

I'm also rubbish at womaning as I hardly wear pink and don't own a bow. Never owned stilettos but can chuck a kettle bell around at the gym.
Perhaps I need a man to tell me how to improve. One of those special ones who has the ability to have rights over all spaces.
Having said that I'm built like a woman, sound like a woman, have given birth like a woman, must be something in my genes?

Plasticwaste · 26/06/2025 00:00

Just noticed the Reddit handbag fan calls himself Petra - what's the betting he was known as plain ol' Pete?

@Boiledbeetle I am so sorry, I didn't mean to cause you an existential identity crisis.

You are not a muppet. Nor a sheep (unless looking sideways out of squinty eyes) but a lovely, brave beetle.

Kinsters · 26/06/2025 00:28

Does anyone remember the TIM who did a whole simulated pregnancy and labour? He'd hoped to recruit a friend to be his "birth partner" but funnily enough couldn't persuade anyone.

I think in a lot of cases, someone wearing 'a dress, tights, a handbag, and make up' more likely to be a man, unless it's a woman going to some special do!

This question is rhetorical - but I wonder how many of us are wearing a dress, tights and make-up at this very moment?
And if there's a big demo on, how many of us would turn up wearing a dress, tights, a handbag, and make up??

The Reddit post reads like a parody, I can almost see the writer tottering along unsteadily on his high heels, like one of those 1970s comedians in bad drag - I'm thinking of the 'Oooh you are awful but I like you' chap.
Either a parody, or zero self awareness.

I very rarely wear dresses and tights and most definitely wouldn't wear something so impractical for attending a protest march. I do, however, have a handbag (if the scruffy old shoulder bag I often carry around with me can pass for a handbag).

Thinking about it, I realise that I haven't worn a dress nor make-up for years now, in fact not since the summer of 2018 at a wedding - and prior to that just twice in 2013, once in 2012, once in 2011 and twice in 2010, all at weddings.

Yes you’re right tobee but I just really like that photo and how the pair of them messed with gender stereotypes. Anyway we’ll have no messing about with piss here, that’s not really our style is it 😁

Mr Bowie clearly womanning properly in this pic.

Apparently the dress was designed by Michael Fish, which is interesting because he was also a weatherman (along with John Kettley 😂)

That's rather nice. It's essentially a frock coat. Very 18th-century.

PruthePrune · 26/06/2025 09:04

This reminds me of a story a few years ago when a poor train guard was accused of transphobia. He misgendered a MtF by calling him sir. The MtF said something along the lines of "I'm obviously a woman because I was wearing blush pink", accompanied by a pic of an man with long thinning hair. Don't know what happened to the poor train guard, transactivism was in it's ascendency at the time.

Another Bowie gem, from an interview with Russell Harty.

”And how about the shoes, are they men’s shoes, or women’s shoes, or bisexual shoes?”
”They’re shoe shoes, silly!”

Oh dear. I'm probably not a woman because I'm wearing trousers, an old shirt of DS's and no make up. I have short hair too. 🤷‍♀️

Then there is absolutely no chance you are a women then.

I used to have short hair but wore a lot of skirts (those flouncy ones that often got caught in one's knickers). Now I have long hair but mostly wear jeans and t shirts, sometimes old ones of DS1's.

I littterrrally have no idea what sex I am anymore. It's all so terribly confusing. I did give birth twice, but that means nothing.

After all, even in a silky dress, Bowie was still The Man Who Sold The World.

This article is quite fun.

Come on now!!

Just because you grew two humans inside your womb, does not make you a women.

Being a women is a feeling.
