I believe posters are responding to this statement.

On the trans issues I would say it over moderated agaisnt those who were opposed to trans rights for a period of time

Where you mischaracterise feminists on this board as opposing trans rights. Which is untrue. I would predict the majority of posters on this board are not ‘opposed’ to people with transgender identities having the same rights to protect them as anyone else.

But that’s not remotely saying that there are trans rights that shouldn’t be opposed, is it?

CuriousGeorge80 · 21/06/2025 21:47

But that’s not remotely saying that there are trans rights that shouldn’t be opposed, is it?

Yet you have again used the words oppose and trans rights. Posters have asked you what ‘rights’ you refer to. Did you clarify?

So it can be viewed as a negative act to ‘oppose’ a group’s ‘rights’. And the question remains, are they actually ‘rights’ or are they additional privileges above all other groups within the population?

You say you don’t want to be in the discussion, fine. But maybe you could at least acknowledge that perhaps people are finding seeking clarification for the words you have used in your post.

You say it is not ‘remotely’ what you said. Yet more than one of us has interpreted your words differently to the way you say you intended.

CuriousGeorge80 · 21/06/2025 21:38

Genuinely, I haven’t made a single comment about any trans rights which shouldn’t be opposed. Please can you send me the extract of my post that you are referring to, as I am baffled. Thanks 🙏

On the trans issues I would say it over moderated agaisnt those who were opposed to trans rights for a period of time

But there are quite clearly people on this board who are opposed to trans rights

I found it curious that a gender critical woman would style the GC view on protecting women's rights as 'opposed to trans rights'. So I was genuinely interested in your thoughts.

Edited

Apologies. There is a stray finding.

“But maybe you could at least acknowledge that perhaps people are seeking clarification for the words you have used in your post.” is what it should be.

Sadly the starter of this thread won't be welcoming the party bus, having deleted his account sometime between this morning and now: https://www.reddit.com/user/the-evil-bee

Silenced himself then, gosh what a surprise.

Why are you replying to my post that is specifically for somebody else? And why do you keep asking me to engage on something I have said I don’t want to engage on?

Your posts to me are disingenuous and condescending. Your first one pissed me off, because it made assumptions about my knowledge and views that are incorrect. You responded to something I said that you clearly didn’t like by trying to educate me, based on those incorrect assumptions. When I responded in turn, you then took on a passive aggressive, faux innocent approach. I have no interest in having a discussion on trans rights with you at all. I suspect actually we would not be very far apart on our views, but as I have said I have absolutely no interest in discussing it with you at all.

All this has done is serve to remind me why I stay away from this topic. I won’t be responding to you further.

I have read back to what Bundle said about your initial tweet and I suggest you follow your own advice and read what she said again and how you have reacted.

But what you said to me was “I just find it a bit odd that if you have some slam dunk lawyerly arguments about which trans rights shouldn't be opposed…” and I am genuinely baffled because I haven’t said anything like that at all. And the quotes of mine you have included don’t say that at all either. I raised being a lawyer purely because some other poster was trying to school me on the legal position, that’s it.

I genuinely would have thought that it would be largely agreed that for a period of time a while back Mumsnet over moderated by deleting messages or threads that challenged “trans rights” (or whatever language people are trying to police me to use). Posts challenging trans women in women’s sports or women’s jails were, for example, deleted or messages within it were deleted pretty quickly and frequently. This approach then softened and enabled more robust discussions to be had, and “pro-trans” posters were moderated more carefully than they had been before. As a reader but non-poster, I thought I saw a clear shift in Mumsnet policy. Maybe I’m wrong, it’s not a big point.

My post was about the approach to moderation.

Your post was about the approach to moderation but the phrase 'trans rights' and the context in which you used it was of interest, particularly since you are a lawyer and therefore, no doubt, quite careful and precise about the words and phrases you use.
However, you obviously don't wish to 'go there' so I will bid you good night

Whilst I don’t wish to have a wider discussion on “trans rights”, I really would like you to point me to where I said I “have some slam dunk lawyerly arguments about which trans rights shouldn't be opposed”.

I also have a cool bag designed specifically to put deboxed wine bags in with a tap on the side....

I have to thank my sister for that little gem.

Bloody hell murasaki you’re living your best life on another level with this and your fancy cheeseboard 😍

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 21/06/2025 23:07

I don’t think moderation is consistent or particularly good

i am not sure it ever has been as mods are individuals and there is, as others have said, nuance.

but biased against ‘trans positive’ posts it ain’t

(sorry only way i could think to phrase it at this time of night)

My post was about the approach to moderation.

I see you mentioned some time back about not wanting to discuss this but you have referred to my post again (and misrepresented it) so I feel that I have the right to reply.

My post that you responded to mentioning your legal qualifications is on page 2.

At no point do I mention a ‘legal position’ or Equality law. This was my comment to you:

You might find it helpful to read up more on this - your characterisation of people in this board as being ‘opposed to trans rights’ is wholly inaccurate and may have coloured your concept of fair moderation.
You may want to start with the basic facts:
No one can change sex
Sex is important in some situations like medicine, sport, jobs and facilities
‘Gender identity’ has no real and fixed definition and relies totally on stereotypes.
Trans people have the same rights as the rest of us - most of their common demands are privileges which impact negatively on others.

As a PP pointed out, lawyers are usually quite careful with the words they use but you seem to play fast and loose with accusations to me - that I am ‘hugely invested’ in this topic, that I was ‘pissed off’ (when my comments showed no such thing) and now that I was trying to school you on the legal position.

Bannedontherun · 22/06/2025 00:17

@ArabellaScott right i am making some egg mayo sandwiches.

i have a bowl of salad from my garden

And for the delectation of the meat eat eaters some Nut burgers.

I still have in my possession a carry basket from the seventies and a lovely gingham cover, to keep my picnic in tip top condition.

Who is responsible for the ginger beer?

Or you know, some people agree about some things and because it is a discussion forum, they post their opinion there.

You seem to have your own opinion that you post here too. It agrees with some other people’s too. Shall we say you belong in a clique with them too?

Why do you disagree with womens rights?

@murasaki with Amazon, the item ref is the first bit after the /dp/ bit, so you can delete everything after that and the link still works.
