I'm sure there must be some arrant bollocks in here somewhere, because Jolyon.

But is there anything worrying in this?

You're so close!

It’s not remotely the same as asking non trans women to share their loos with the occasional trans woman . If it were comparable you wouldn’t have been using women’s toilets all your life (since trans women have always been using them too). Instead you would be equally likely to walk into the men’s, since they both pose the same experience of lack of safety and dignity right?

So how often in your life have you chosen as a woman to use the men’s?

KnottyAuty · 19/06/2025 17:35

Tandora · 19/06/2025 17:26

I think they’ll just have fewer toilets. Yes in the interim the disabled will become the unisex I guess. This is already happening where trans people are having the indignity of being called into HR and instructed on using disabled facilities across the other side of building etc.

In the longer term (if this lasts that long which actually I don’t think it will) segregated provision will be a thing of the past. Probably that is inevitable now anyway regardless of when this guidance falls.

Edited

Segregation of loos is ok on the basis of sex and disability so it will be OK for gender reassignment. They could lawfully allocate two separate toilet facilities to "Gender Reassignment plus Male/Female/Gender/Other label of choice" alongside regular male/female provision. Trans folks need to be really careful at this point - if they don't start making reasonable points they will be given a legal solution they don't like but can do nothing about.... .

DiamondThrone · 19/06/2025 17:36

Tandora · 19/06/2025 17:31

Would you feel safe and with your dignity intact as a woman walking into the men’s loo? It is exactly the same for trans women. I cannot understand why this isn’t obvious to you.
Not to mention it would a total violation of privacy.
Again, I cannot understand how you could think this is a reasonable ask?

Edited

Interesting edit there, Tandora.

Are you tired? A bit hot in this heatwave? Because your "arguments" are becoming increasingly lackluster.

It is identical to asking women (eff with your "non trans women" nonsense) to share their loos with men.

Why would you assume that Diamond Throne has a stable gender? Perhaps it exists in a liminal space?

It's not remotely the same. A trans woman using men's toilets is using toilets for members of their own sex, in the company of other members of their own sex.

We have been using women's toilets all our lives because there are no other toilets for us to use, Tandora.

There are not usually men in them.

That doesn't make it OK for there to ever be men in them.

You think toilets should be labelled “gender reassignment”? And this would be compatible with the dignity of trans people; because outing someone as having undergone gender reassignment is no biggy?

TWETMIRF · 19/06/2025 17:41

Yet again a poster saying that transwomen should use the ladies is being horribly transphobic. Tandora is saying that single sex spaces should be single gender instead and completely ignoring all the genders that are not man or woman. Where should the bigender, cloudgender, ambigender, healgender etc go? Surely having females of any gender and males of any gender facilities are far more inclusive?

Tandora does not believe that trans identities are valid, if she did she'd be supporting all of them.

teawamutu · 19/06/2025 17:41

Tandora · 19/06/2025 17:19

I’m very sorry that happened to you.

Nonetheless it’s not a basis on which to generalise.

Tandora, I'm not going to say 'give up' because we all have a perfect right to post here, and tedious and repetitive as your flogging of the TRA dead horse is, it serves a useful purpose in showing the paucity of the evidence and arguments.

But I would really like to understand, what is the skin you have in the game? Because I don't believe for one minute this is a disinterested member of the 'cisterhood' standing up for The Right Side of History.

Family member? Friend? The desperate denial of reality, painting of black as white, up as down etc etc etc is too Jolyon-adjacent to be unrelated.

Tandora, 99% of them out themselves as soon as they encounter another human being with eyes.

This is generally without incident, because most people are not particularly bothered about encountering a trans person in a mixed sex public space.

When trans people start respecting my dignity, I'll worry more about theirs.

You are so right.

Today I identify as "A person who is so bored with all these old arguments being rolled out as some kind of Gotcha".

I would also like to identify as "Somebody whose ankles are not swelling in the heatwave", but unfortunately that one is not sticking.

ArabellaScott · 19/06/2025 17:44

Well, this thread about the GLP does seem to be effectively derailed.

Tandora · 19/06/2025 17:47

Asking women to share their toilets with the occasional trans woman, (as has always been the status quo), is of course absolutely not , in no way remotely, reasonably comparable to asking a woman to walk into the men’s toilets. Which is why when you go out and about your day there is no question about whether you will use the women or the men’s in the interests of your safety and dignity, despite the fact that trans women use them too.

And On that “eff off” note …..(sorry edit this was in response to @DiamondThrone telling me to eff off)

I recommend you all this podcast: interesting discussion of the toxicity of social media and the way people communicate nowadays.

Jolyon Maugham KC (@goodlawproject.org)

Every media report of a JK Rowling proxy threatening to sue a body that won't engage in performative cruelty to trans people should include this heading from the Supreme Court decision. But, because the outlets are clueless or bigoted, they never do.

No, funnily enough, there is no data on how many trans people "pass" and how many do not

But given the number of trans people I've clocked who definitely don't pass, a sizeable chunk of the population would have to be trans in order for the ones who do pass to vastly outnumber the ones who don't.

We can tell.

Of course we can tell.

Perhaps women can tell more easily than men.

Sounds very scientific. How many trans people have you “clocked” exactly? And how did you verify your judgements?

OK, but you can't hold the opinion you do AND claim to be a feminist. The two things are directly opposed.

Utterly unconvinced as to the motive in this specific instance.

Again. Your claims that gender critical feminism is the only type of feminism is demonstrably false both in theory and activism.
