NHS Policy Audit - working party -Thread #3

Original thread #1 here:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5291237-nhs-policy-audit-working-party?page=1
Thread #2:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5322494-nhs-policy-audit-working-party-thread-2

This is a thread about “keeping the receipts” on NHS Policies prior to the Supreme Court ruling on 16th April 2025.

Our working theory is that there were no single sex spaces for NHS Staff or Patients in the entire country before that date, having all been removed by stealth.

We are aiming to prove this by auditing websites and policies for all the UK trusts and using the results to raise public awareness.

As well as recording what has happened historically, the information will form a baseline so we can check which Trusts comply or defy the judgement in due course...

We are working around the country region by region. If you fancy getting involved in a bit of grassroots feminism then please do join in to help!?

Each trust takes about an hour to research and you can upload online without giving any personal details away. Comment below and we can give you the link to an online survey - it changes for each region.

Thanks soooo much to all the vipers who have helped so far and @twoloons for doing a great job with the thread wrangling!

Afternoon All - just been going through the SE regional list. We have a few left to mop up and I need to reallocate some of these. Anyone with a bit of time this week, please let me know. I'll get a couple done myself @Cantunseeit not sure how you and @YellowRoom are fixed but you have been absolute stars. Thank you!

YellowRoom · 24/06/2025 17:55

@FarriersGirl I can take one

WithSilverBells · 24/06/2025 18:06

The Consultation is on my list for this week, but I'm happy to tackle another Trust at the weekend.

FarriersGirl · 24/06/2025 18:09

You are a Star -Oxford University Hospitals Trust - Thank you

KnottyAuty · 24/06/2025 18:38

Thanks for keeping on this! I’m afraid that I e got a mammoth work deadline which arrived at short notice. So I’m a bit quiet on the audit but will be on the case again shortly.

Brilliant work on the South East! We’re finding it more difficult to get stories now because a lot of what we’re finding is similar to before, so ploughing on to the finish is where the big news is… can we get done by Sandie part II?! It would be very fitting to have her tribunal inspire us and then be the finish line?

@seastoat how are the Welsh FOI’s going?!

It is for YellowRoom. But if you can take Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust that would be great.

Cantunseeit · 24/06/2025 20:42

Does anyone know how many more regions there are still to do? Thinking about @KnottyAuty's question whether we can complete all before the end of Sandie part 2.

FWIW, I should have lots of time available for this in the timeframe but I don't have a good sense of how much still needs to be done.

I guess if the Welsh FOI's aren't coming back we can call that out and treat separately

TwoLoonsAndASprout · 24/06/2025 20:51

We’ve done EoE, London, Midlands, NE&Y, and we’re nearly finished the SE (plus we started with Scotland). So that leaves NW and SW. I think! I don’t know how Ermine’s FOIs in Wales are going, but I imagine we need to wait a bit on those.

I think it might be a bit ambitious to get two more regions done in three weeks - not impossible, given how fast you guys work, but ambitious.

Sorry, got it wrong - if we’re thinking by the end of the tribunal, that’s 5 weeks - tribunal is scheduled to be two weeks, correct?

Cantunseeit · 24/06/2025 22:28

I’m up for giving it a go - two more is possible, if challenging, at any rate

Thank you - University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is the last acute trust on the list. Then we have just 3 community and mental health trusts, if you can pick up Surrey and Borders Partnership Trust I will get the other 2 done asap

Also, “front hole” 🤮

This is vulgar. If they must use a euphemism say that "you might call it your fanny" (or whatever terms are commonly used elsewhere.)

Apart from being incorrect, it is dehumanising pornified language, just the sort of language a man with paraphilia’s might use.

Cantunseeit · 25/06/2025 10:22

Fun example of of going beyond the law from Portsmouth University NHS Trust
TRANS SUPPORT POLICY FOR STAFF:
"We recognise that the current legislation is limited in that it does not provide clear protection against discrimination for non binary individuals. However, we intend to be inclusive of non-binary and gender non conforming individuals, as they may wish to take steps to express their gender identity in the workplace."

"We have zero tolerance to any transphobic behaviour or harassment, bullying or discrimination on the grounds of gender identity or gender expression."

""Individuals can use toilets or changing facilities they are comfortable using with or without a Gender Recognition Certificate."

Or someone not familiar with female anatomy because surely there are 3 openings and if the baby comes out of the front one we are all in trouble!?

@FarriersGirl I'm ready to do another one, if you have any feedback from the first one (Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare) just let me know!

At the risk of lowering the tone even more, the TRA “literature” really only recognises fuckable holes.

That would be great 😀Could you have a look at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, I was just about to start it but that will enable me to do a different one. You did a good job with the first one - info is often incomplete but we can only do our best with the info available.

FarriersGirl · 25/06/2025 13:10

@KnottyAuty @TwoLoonsAndASprout I have reallocated all the trusts from the SE and we will probably complete them in a couple of days. What region do you want to do next?

Are we all feeling strong? Could we face tackling the South East (including Brighton and Hove)?

TwoLoonsAndASprout · 25/06/2025 15:26

Also, I wanted to share this little typo I found in Bradford Teaching Hospitals' Trans Equality policy. See if you can spot it (you may need to click to see the whole image, once it uploads):
