Simone Biles attacks Riley Gaines

ItsCoolForCats · 07/06/2025 09:59

Simone Biles has come out in defence of males in women's sports, and has attacked Riley Gaines for fighting against it. She said on Twitter:

"@RileyGaines
You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!"

So, so disappointing. Both my daughters do gymnastics and are huge SB fans, so it is awful for her to show such contempt towards RG, who is fighting for a level playing field for women and girls in sport. And to suggest a separate category as if nobody has ever thought of that and tried it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Never said she did or should. I used the stats provided by the NCCA but hey ho whatever.

I apologise profusely and will bow about so you all can continue to attack the multi Olympic medal winning African American gymnast (who didn’t even suggest that trans women should be allowed in women’s sports) who is an advocates and supports with time and money multiple women’s mental heath charities and is a leading voice for foster and adopted children having been one herself and continue your veneration of the marvellous Miss Gaines.

@Helleofabore
Your comment is actually is actually laughable! I function very well in real life thanks - I find it quite easy not to associate with far right activists that attend and make speeches at Trump rallies and actively advocate for anti-women policies on a national stage.

How do you even know the political affiliations of all the people you deal daily with? It is remarkable.

But what is laughable has been your posts. The way you have attempted to excuse the words of Simone Biles because you disagree with Riley Gaines’ politics. You actually feel righteous about it. Yes we can call out the behaviour of Simone Biles in the instance. You see, just agreeing with her stance (which is not all that clear as to what she wants) doesn’t mean her attacking posts should be dismissed. That is not acceptable behaviour yet you have tried to excuse it.

Your posts are the very demonstration in tribal politics.

hang on....you're accepting she is "blonde white and petite" but in the same paragraph she's "five foot fucking 8"?
How on earth is 5'8 petite? It's several inches taller than average for a woman.

That was the point! 🙄 Whilst she was an Olympic contender swimmer, her stats were that she was 175 cm. (NCCA official stats) Since she’s become a political activist, she apparently shrunk to be anywhere between 5”5 and 5”6. It’s a bit of non issue but it’s been picked up on to the point that she got her husband to measure ‘live’ to proof her height. So she’s apparently shrunk to fit the image that they want ….white, blonde and petit and a feminist apparently because as long as you oppose trans women in sports, you can support the complete loss of abortion rights, reduced voting rights, reduced Medicare and food stamps and family assistance, take the age of a dependent child from 18 to 8 ffs and remove or reduce legal
ahes of marriage down to 10 or lower and that’s all ok.

She's not actually shrunk though, has she? She's been five five throughout, which makes Simone look even more stupid and potentially transphobic for suggesting she's the size of a man and this is a negative thing.

Calling out SB for making a nasty personal comments against RG is not ‘attacking’ SB. HTH.

Why do you feel that her heritage and number of Olympic medals is remotely relevant to this btw?

Should women of African American heritage in possession of Olympic medals be allowed to insult and make unfounded and nasty allegations about slightly above average height white women with impunity?

You have some bizarre and quite racist standards.

Or… you know .. her height was reported incorrectly on the first place.

”So she’s apparently shrunk to fit the image that they want ….white, blonde and petit”

Do you even understand how prejudiced you are coming across with these posts? It is really something to see.

Do you actually believe this? That the republic party have deliberately misrepresented her height to fit some stereotype ? Or that she is now misrepresenting her own height to fit someone stereotypes?

Meanwhile you are leveraging Simone Biles racial oppression to excuse her words.

Maybe it is her political views that has caused her to shrink?

’Riley Gaines magically shrinks or grows to fit the required stereotype required at the time !’

I wonder if Simone can do that too, or is it a Riley specific form of magic?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/06/2025 17:33

🤣

Helleofabore · 07/06/2025 17:36

Fuck though. The Republican Party better warn all the women in the USA that agreeing with any policy of theirs will cause shrinkage of height along with the shrinkage of their soul and making it legitimate for others to bully them!

That is fucking remarkable. It really is a health hazard.

Shortshriftandlethal · 07/06/2025 17:38

NautilusLionfish · 07/06/2025 10:18

She didn't say no one has thought about it. She is not saying let transwomen in women's sport. She is saying let's find a solution. Am sure Biles is reacting because Riley's comment relates to a young person and she knows her MAGA crew will be on this young person like hounds. Riley may have legitimate concerns about transwomen in women's sports but her Maganess. And Gaines is against anyone speak about how black women are sidelined in American sports (like basketball) and the privilege of white women in sports. So yeah I can understand Biles' comments front that angle

There is no 'solution' to permitting males to compete in female events.

SionnachRuadh · 07/06/2025 17:38

If agreeing with Republican policies causes women to shrink in stature, is there something that 4'8" Simone Biles isn't telling us?

Helleofabore · 07/06/2025 17:40

Imagine how amazing it would be if there was a huge amount of Democratic Party supporters with sporting histories who travelled around and spoke about protecting women’s sports!

As things stand there's Martina and... that seems to be it?

I assume lots of them are worried about SM backlash or losing sponsorship, and even in tennis where the money is quite good, there's a lot more money in sponsorship deals than prize money.

But that doesn't let retired sportswomen off the hook.

I'm glad we don't have this American hyper-partisanship. I have no idea what way Sharron Davies or Mara Yamauchi vote, and don't really care. Nor do I know what opinions they have on other issues.

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 07/06/2025 17:49

Skipthisbit · 07/06/2025 16:42

She doesn’t vote for a party that “I don’t approve of.”

She’s an active campaigning voice for the party - and specifically for the hard right element of that party - that is stripping away women’s rights across America. She’s already made clear her political intentions clear so for all you who laud her views - I hope you’ll be delighted when she achieves her ambitions. What a huge stride in feminism and the advancement of women’s rights that will be.

Edited

Hitler loved dogs and was a vegetarian, does that make all dog lovers and vegetarians nazis? The juvenile and tribal nature of this argument is hilarious, there is no nuance is there? You’re either 💯 with me or you’re 💯 against me, it’s so utterly childish.

Yes, it's so much better to be like we are in the UK and have a GC movement that doesn't adhere to left/right lines. I feel luckier than American women in that respect.

That’s probably because they don’t appear at political rallies and make speeches on their behalf whilst actively campaigning for them on every TV and podcast?

There is Alison Sydor and the founder of xx-xy.

Some of Riley’s cohort have bravely testified. But they have obviously decided not to be full time or even frequent part time activists which is absolutely fine. They have done their bits too.

But yeah, I don’t know of anyone who has chosen to do this full time with Riley Gaines’ experience in the Democratic Party. I suspect there is a reason for this. That it is deemed incompatible with DP values.

Do you believe a sportswoman who votes Republican deserves to be subjected to a man walking around her locker room with his erect penis on display?

Waitwhat23 · 07/06/2025 17:54

(who didn’t even suggest that trans women should be allowed in women’s sports)

But she's talking about 'inclusion' in relation to males and attacking Gaines on that basis. How is this 'inclusion' to be achieved?

  • Including males in the female category is unfair to women.
  • Providing an open category is denounced as 'othering' and avoided by those competitors anyway.
  • Inclusion of trans identifying males in the male category (and encouraging males to be more accepting of their fellow gender non conforming males) would seem to be true inclusion but would be met with screams of transphobia.

So what is the solution?

And why is it up to Gaines to come up with it? Why is it problem for women to solve? Why are men not working to solve it?

ItisntOver · 07/06/2025 17:54

OrangeAndPistachio · 07/06/2025 10:13

@MsTamborineMan absolutely. You only have to watch Nile Wilson attempting a women's floor routine to know that it's unlikely that even an elite man can compete.

I strongly suspect that they would change the scoring criteria and the ranking of some aspects. Less on grace and more on, say, height or difficulty (depending on floor or apparatus).

Skipthisbit · 07/06/2025 17:56

So if Sharon Davis starts appearing at Reform rallies and going on TV giving speeches for Reform; you don’t care. You are happy to support anyone who is gender critical no matter who they are affiliated with. Blimey. I’m not prepared to support the far right or their hand maidens but each to their own I suppose.

Is that hair shirt you’re wearing very scratchy? It’s funny that you require us to condemn everything Riley Gaines says because of your assertion of her alleged support for ‘the far right’, but you are more than willing to overlook Simone’s nasty, spiteful body shaming because everything else about her is apparently wonderful. You don’t even know what a double standard is do you? 😂
