Simone Biles attacks Riley Gaines

Simone Biles has come out in defence of males in women's sports, and has attacked Riley Gaines for fighting against it. She said on Twitter:

You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!"

So, so disappointing. Both my daughters do gymnastics and are huge SB fans, so it is awful for her to show such contempt towards RG, who is fighting for a level playing field for women and girls in sport. And to suggest a separate category as if nobody has ever thought of that and tried it 🤦🏻‍♀️

I propose that every one under 5'8" is Female and everyone over 5'8" is Male. Works for me. Although it will mean that I just lost a son and gained a daughter.

If Martina recognises her as a woman, that should be good enough for anyone.

She’s an active campaigning voice for the party - and specifically for the hard right element of that party - that is stripping away women’s rights across America. She’s already made clear her political intentions clear so for all you who laud her views - I hope you’ll be delighted when she achieves her ambitions. What a huge stride in feminism and the advancement of women’s rights that will be.

Oh I reckon it's Simone, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall while she discusses the issue with her branding people today.

Because it was all very incoherent. People have presumed she's speaking in favour of letting trans people compete with their chosen category not sex, and I suspect that's what she thinks, but she's not actually said that. She proposed a separate trans category that many of them consider to be bigoted, othering etc, and she also suggested that tall (or in fact not) women look like men. Both of those things have also earned her a bit of criticism for transphobia, in addition to those of us slagging her off from the GC side. If she were going to come out as a trans ally, accusing other women of resembling men isn't a great way to position yourself. Because after all, lots of transwomen do look like men, and thinking that's insulting or negative is actually quite telling.

I reckon she'll probably get away with it if she doesn't dig any further, but people have been roasted by the trans lobby for less.

How do you think activism works? Do you think that everyone has to answer an extensive questionnaire before that are allowed to ‘activate’ on an issue? That they have to prove they are a perfect fit for all the progressive beliefs about issues before anyone can agree with them on one issue?

Do you think that if someone who has views that others reject, that people should reject all their efforts even when they have a depth of experience in the one topic you agree on?

She was fairly upset when she was criticised for being rather under par during competition, everyone was supposed to be ‘supportive’ ; but it’s okay for her to sling the insults about another athlete’s performance and indeed appearance.

Not a Good move.

The BBC reporting of this incident is as disappointing as ever.

No mention of the snide and nasty remark to Riley likening her to a man. Calling trans identified males trans women throughout which just makes the story unclear.

I apologise profusely and will bow about so you all can continue to attack the multi Olympic medal winning African American gymnast (who didn’t even suggest that trans women should be allowed in women’s sports) who is an advocates and supports with time and money multiple women’s mental heath charities and is a leading voice for foster and adopted children having been one herself and continue your veneration of the marvellous Miss Gaines.

Would you rather she wasn’t campaigning to remove men from women’s sports? Who would pass your political purity test and have the courage and impetus to do this?
