Simone Biles attacks Riley Gaines

Simone Biles has come out in defence of males in women's sports, and has attacked Riley Gaines for fighting against it. She said on Twitter:

"@RileyGaines
You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!"

So, so disappointing. Both my daughters do gymnastics and are huge SB fans, so it is awful for her to show such contempt towards RG, who is fighting for a level playing field for women and girls in sport. And to suggest a separate category as if nobody has ever thought of that and tried it 🤦🏻‍♀️

I was going to answer @MissScarletInTheBallroom but @Helleofabore - you just make the environment uncomfortable.

Huh?

SionnachRuadh · 14/06/2025 13:25

Well, there's a standard form of argumentation we've seen repeatedly, which goes like this:

  1. I agree with what RG says about fairness in women's sports.
  2. However, I would like to introduce some other issues including [RG expressing some views on unrelated issues that I disagree with] + [RG maybe holding some views that she hasn't actually expressed, but I deduce she holds based on my stereotype of what someone with her demographic background probably believes] + [RG talking to some people who separately may hold views I disagree with] + [RG being brazen enough to make media appearances that she might even have got paid for]
  3. Therefore, RG is proven to be a bad actor who can't be a serious advocate for the main thing she advocates for, which I claim to agree with her on.

Several posters in succession have tried this kind of starting with the conclusion that "RG is a bad actor" and arguing backwards from there, and it's become quite boring.

I see. So you believe that because you are an individual just posting on the internet that your efforts to discredit Riley Gaines are not to be considered as undermining her? And no one should point out that you are actively seeking to undermine her with your weak arguments to discredit her?

Ok. You can use that as an excuse to not answer a question. It is manipulative of you though.

Waitwhat23 · 14/06/2025 13:32

So, we're back to 'I agree with this person but she's not being kind enough'.

really gives off Drew Barrymore vibes.

Handy meme for anyone too shit scared to say, openly, that women and girl's sports should be, well, for women and girls.

I see that you still feel the need to dig in even when I said I felt the environment was uncomfortable. Why couldn’t you just leave it? But no. Another strange post.

just to say I didn’t find @Helleofabore ’s posts strange at all. They seemed perfectly comprehensible to me

what was strange about them?

NecessaryScene · 14/06/2025 13:43

Why couldn’t you just leave it?

From someone who's ongoing contribution to feminism and women's sport is dozens of pages about how Riley Gaines is icky.

And apparently expecting that you should feel "comfortable" while doing that.

Okay...

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 14/06/2025 13:48

On the subject of women never being ‘anti woman’ - there were of course many women opposed to women’s suffrage. I expect they thought they were on the right side of history

Okay...

It smacks to me of the usual TRA refrain of 'you make me feel unsafe' when someone disagrees with them.

Ironically, Simone had that down pat herself - telling Riley no-one in sports is safe with her around.

I do however think that person has been allowed to derail the thread enough.

That is interesting. If I said that you make the environment uncomfortable on this thread, what would you do?

I’m the poster in the extreme minority here. It’s very difficult to exist in this environment already. You, however, are not.

By its very nature, FWR is toxic and uncomfortable to outsiders, so I’d call nonsense on that claim.

This doesn’t help,

Disagreeing with you is not a threat to your existence.

AIBU can be uncomfortable if you don't agree with the majority.

Is that an argument against robust discussion?

Do people with minority opinions have a right to different treatment because they have a minority opinion? Are their arguments supposed to be judged by different standards?

TheKeatingFive · 14/06/2025 14:48

I'm totally confused now.

If @JessaWoo actually agrees with Riley, what has her contribution to the thread been about, why does she feel like a 'minority' on here and what is it about Hellebore's posts have made her so uncomfortable?

You may find a quick AS quite illuminating as to past form.

Why is it that you want to post on a forum which you think is inherently toxic and on which you are in an extreme minority? And why would you expect that to be a comfortable experience?

Most people post here because for years it has been just about the only place that we could discuss our concerns without censure. This forum has been the main place for discussion of the negative impacts of trans ideology on women and on children; a place of education, information, sisterhood and organisation.

This is the environment.

Why would you expect it to be something it is not, and never has been?

That you have fundamental disagreement with the main proposition is the reason you find it uncomfortable.

NecessaryScene · 14/06/2025 15:39

That you have fundamental disagreement with the main proposition is the reason you find it uncomfortable.

Plus the fact that it's not a bannable offence.

Try having a fundamental disagreement with the main proposition over on the other side, and you wouldn't have time to be uncomfortable in the brief seconds before you were permabanned.

Being able to get nicely uncomfortable over here is a positive luxury.

Cailleach1 · 14/06/2025 15:55

JessaWoo · 14/06/2025 14:17

This doesn’t help,

Maybe you don’t find it helpful. Maybe don’t find it as flattering to your personal take as you would like. I find it helpful though. On the other hand, I don’t find calling posters ‘weird’ and ‘strange’ as you have done helpful.

If a (thankfully those with such anti science views are in a minority) person claimed the earth to be flat as a pancake, would it be awfully cruel and bullying to respond that it was in fact elliptical? I would not be denying their existence, and can acknowledge they deserve respect as human beings, but not for their beliefs.

G’wan Riley Gaines. Thank you for standing up for the rights and humanity of women and girls.. As for Simone Biles; how easy it seemed for you to not give a toss about the rights and humanity of women and girls.
