Guess we'll finally find out whether Imane Khelif is female or not. I suspect he will avoid the testing "out of principle" 🤭

The implications of this win are huge. It is important to remember this ONLY happened because a bunch of people refused to accept lies and Terfs mobilised to protest in Belgium and forced World Boxing to do tell the truth.

Khelif and Lin got publicity across the world for winning, BUT now everyone knows that male cheating to take women's prizes is a thing and will always be a thing if we allow it. The news of the lie will spread everywhere. The same news networks that celebrated a man beating up a woman last year now have to deal with the fact they were lying. This story is generating huge clicks and revenue means it will have to be told. This story is not ever going away.

Everyone knew last August that we both men. Journalists saw the reports. The cover up was pathetic.

More sports will be forced to take action to safeguard women's sports now.

This image sums it up.

Agree. People can't fail to see that Khelif has XY, male karyotypes. Is a man.

Even those who argued he was a woman, and slandered those calling for tests.

I think this is a little different than it was with Caster Semenya - for one, this is boxing, the ramifications are very different.

Yes, Khelif is a victim of circumstance. Identified and brought up 'as a girl' in a poor community and in a society bound by strict gender rules. Then nurtured and utilised by Algerian sports bodies to promote national interests; even though it must have been apparent at puberty that Khelif was not developing as one would expect a girl to do, and instead showing clear signs of male puberty.

Khelif presents and dresses as a man in his everyday life, and only does the 'modelling' and soft focus magazine covers when being promoted by Algerian media ( which in itself is a compromising position to be in)

Obviously we all want to make the charitable assumption but do we have any evidence of that beyond an unverified childhood photo that might arguably be his sister and the word of his parents who might be under pressure from the Algerian authorities? If he was socially conditioned as a girl surely he’d at least be a bit hesitant or uncomfortable being slung onto the shoulders of his coach?

The footage of him at the polling station where he is greeted warmly by the men (possibly near his family home - the returning hero celebration?) shows a place where all the women cover their hair so socially looks quite traditional.

There is nothing about him that suggests he was brought up as a girl, even for a while.

Sports Illustrated have said that IK could get around the testing by instead turning professional:

Barbra Banda was deemed ineligible to play in the African Cup of Nations as they carry out sex screening. Banda was able to go on and have a successful career in the US and avoid being tested.

The One Way Imane Khelif Can Avoid A Gender Test

Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who was the subject of much controversy during the 2024 Paris Olympics, now faces a new challenge. In a statement, World Boxing

Interesting, so that rather blows the accusations of racism towards PoC on grounds of ‘femininity’ out of the water! The African Cup of Nations are not going to exclude BB on the grounds that ‘she’ doesn’t meet the ‘feminine standards of Western ideals (or whatever nonsense the TRAs repeat) - it’s just because he’s male.

Women did the work. Oliver Brown's latest in Telegraph which published the test results shows how it was not just the protests, but a letter writing campaign that helped.

Women's Rights Network - WRN

When the Eindhoven Box Cup gave star billing to Imane Khelif we had a hunch that not all of the member federations of World Boxing would be quite so delighted at the prospect of their female boxers being drawn to fight a male. We decided to find out. We wrote to the Presidents of the 100 or so member federations of World Boxing asking them to use their influence to ensure fairness and safety for their female boxers. And the replies started coming in almost by return. Our hunch was right. We had messages of support from, mainly Latin American, countries who assured us that they wanted female boxing for biological females. We’ll never know if our letter campaign made a difference. In the end, the right result was achieved: a clear eligibility policy and sex-testing for all female boxers (exactly what we had asked for). Another cracking article from oliverbrown_tel with a mention of the behind-the-scenes work of the WRN Sports Group. Thank you.

So professional boxing federations would t sex test participants? Surely their insurers are not going to like that.

CassOle · 02/06/2025 09:01

No professional female boxer in their right mind would compete against IK.

I will never forget how they ridiculed and demonised Angela Carini for crying after she was punched in the face by a man and then forced her to apologise for not shaking his hand.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 02/06/2025 09:28

he was taken up and used by the political and sporting classes when he was young and arguably unaware of his real biological status.

According to an interview with him & his family.for the Olympics, in the community he was brought up in girls mostly remain in the house after puberty except for essential errands. According to the same interview, IK was discovered by a boxing coach at the age of 17 or 18 when playing football in the village with the boys.

The maths ain't mathing.

Full page of that karotype test result:

That’s the testing from Delhi, which was the IBA competition in 2023?

The same journalist leaked the reports from the investigations by Khelif’s team in Paris, which revealed the 46 XY 5-ard diagnosis.

I've seen family photos from his childhood which suggest that Khelif was brought up as a girl...certainly in the earlier years. I've no reason to doubt that. Same with Caster Semenya.....even though as Semenya matured it was clear he was male.

Helleofabore · 02/06/2025 09:41

I think (only based on all the info we gathered) that Khelif knew from puberty. It would have been known when Khelif masculinised and didn’t have a period. Khelif was discovered by a boxing scout while playing football with boys.

But either way, both Lin and Khelif knew definitively two years ago and chose to continue to the Olympics.

And the photos taken throughout the Olympics shows Khelif in positions that puts in great doubt that the coaching team thinks Khelif is female. Up on the shoulders. But also the pats on the chest at breast height.

Plus since then no other female boxer has been feted by the fashionable liberals as Khelif with such invitations and photo shoots. Don’t forget also Khelif is an ambassador for empowering girls.

I would think that Khelif has known Khelif’s entire boxing career that Khelif is male. And had no regard for any female person that was injured or displaced.

Afaik there was one published photo that implied IK was the girl in the pic but there was also suggestion that he could have been the younger boy also in the photo. Have you seen others?

usedtobeaylis · 02/06/2025 10:13

That was disgraceful.

It was awful. I personally found it distressing to see a woman being hurt and humiliated in this way by a man, cheered on by lots of other men. It’s still the tone on Reddit, that it’s all Angela Carini’s fault that Khelif was singled out.

NotBadConsidering · 02/06/2025 10:22

Khelif knows he’s a man, has known since he was a teenager and so has everyone around him. The videos and photos are a massive trolling effort, one big fuck you to all those who know he’s a man but couldn’t do anything about it, smiling smugly and knowingly at us all, and laughing at those who are stupid enough to believe the lie.

Well, the game is up now, but he’ll take his medal and make a living out of it, and the women he punched will never get justice.

Beowulfa · 02/06/2025 10:57

Is David Tennant wearing a t-shirt in support of Khelif yet? That'll learn us.

Maaate · 02/06/2025 10:03

This is the photo I saw posted.

That’s the one I saw. IKs Wikipedia also studiously avoids mentioning his siblings that clearly exist. I wonder why?

The Algerian authorities and IKs parents (though they may have been coerced) have been proven to have lied to us in their claim that he was female. There is extremely thin evidence to back any claims that he was even raised as female. There is less thin evidence showing that he was raised as male. Either way it’s not actually that important as it is just a face saving exercise for Algeria (I just can’t bear liars).

However, the loose end I can’t tie up is that if the theory that he was raised male is correct, why was he chosen to be presented as female and represent Algeria in the Olympics? They clearly didn’t choose him because they thought he could pass as female.

Option 1 is that he was actually raised as a female and they are not lying (despite all indicators to the contrary).

Option 2. The most cynical explanation is that the Algerian Olympic coaches saw the clear opportunity given by the IOC rules that explicitly allowed IK to compete if he had the correct passport with a Female marker on it. He was the athlete they could persuade to compete as a woman so they went for it. The version of his birth certificate that records him as female was issued in recent years (2018? can’t remember). I’m not sure if we’ve seen an older version or not.

With the backing of a gold medal hungry Algerian government that is confident it is operating within the IOC rules, who wouldn’t tweak the M to an F on his passport and be the pride of his nation?

I’m assuming Taiwan had the same ‘genius’ idea.

I was about to choose the appropriate emoji for this but seem to have lost the ‘laugh’ emoji - what’s happened??

CassOle · 02/06/2025 11:05

It was mentioned that some people were using it to troll posters. So, someone would post a heartfelt post about their troubles and then get 'laughing' reactions from people.

TheKeatingFive · 02/06/2025 11:15

Occam's razor.

I expect Khelif has a DSD, was wrongly assumed to be female at birth and was brought up as such until puberty.

At that point, medical investigation happened and following that, adjustment to how he presented socially.

However at that stage, he had already established himself as a promising athlete (within female competition) and his birth cert said female. The powers that be will have found it beneficial to keep him in female competition.

It appears to be a totally wide open 'secret'. Literally everyone in the Algerian camp treats him as a man. They simply saw an opportunity and took it.

TheKeatingFive · 02/06/2025 11:21

Whether that childhood photo is of Khelif, a sibling, or someone else entirely is anyone's guess. It doesn't really matter.

I expect Khelif was presumed to be a girl early on, but that was corrected by puberty at the latest.
