I knew you'd all be keen to hear them.

"It is the responsibility of a feminist to be progressive, to learn from previous waves but to always be pushing towards a new one. “Feminism must be intersectional. Feminism must not be used to bully and berate both cis women and trans people.”

Yes, I'm not finding it funny at all. All those tweets in succession, all desperately flailing about seeking JKR's attention, tagging her, pestering her.

This won't help:

https://www.spiked-online.com/2025/05/31/jk-rowling-vs-jolyon-maugham-a-stunning-social-media-mismatch/

That article gave me a good laugh, thank you for posting it and thank you Julie B for writing it 😆

That is excellent. Justice restored for the original artist.

This comes to mind

DeanElderberry · 31/05/2025 20:20

Of course, maybe the original artist was the one who did the oversewing with pink and blue. The whole thing could turn into a long-term game of textile chess until eventually the fabric becomes weakened and disintegrates altogether,

How metaphorical of it all.

Can we reclaim "intersectional feminism", please, and use the term for its real purpose? Example: I'm probably more likely to be struck by lightning than strip-searched by the British Transport Police. So that problem seems to be nothing to do with me personally. It's a problem affecting e.g. hapless teenagers involved in county lines. Right now I know barely any teenage dimwits but intersectional feminism is a tough discipline: it means a strip-search policy IS my problem. All women have a duty to ensure not one girl is ever strip-searched by a man. (And we all know who gets strip-searched: see below if you're uncertain about that.) This is intersectional feminism: it's about remembering that other women are dealing with experiences I will never face and barely comprehend. Don't let hijackers use the term as a synonym for uncritical trans activism. It's about broadening the way we look at WOMEN'S challenges and obstacles (which is obvs not at all the same thing as broadening the category of "women"!). https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/jun/10/police-more-than-six-times-more-likely-to-strip-search-black-children

this is exactly what intersectional feminism is. Chapeau🎩! (I tip my cap to you).

An excellent post.

I asked it to make an image of JM in a kimono and a fox. It refused as it was inappropriate. It has no sense of humour

picture won't link, damn

lcakethereforeIam · 31/05/2025 21:03

What's the backstory on the embroidery? I can guess the transverse stitching was spitefully applied and now removed but what was the garment?

Llamasarellovely · 31/05/2025 21:49

Oof, she's just playing with him now.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

GenderlessVoid · 31/05/2025 22:18

I'm shocked, even though it's Jolyon.

Why is he going on about her defamation lawyers? He's a wealthy lawyer. Surely he could get the case tossed quickly unless he's lying (then crowdfund on beating JKR). So it seems like an admission that he's lying and plans to continue to do so.

But it's also appallingly unprofessional to suggest that it's wrong to have a lawyer protect your rights. Why is he acting like something is amiss if you consult your lawyers when someone may be obstructing your rights? It's especially odd for someone who fashions himself a civil rights/human rights lawyer. Shouldn't he be applauding people who protect our rights to honest debate?

My guess is that he's melting down, as PP have said, but also that he believes that any publicity is good publicity and will help with donations.

ArabellaScott · 31/05/2025 22:39

Another five tweets in the past hour. All about Rowling.

The man's obsessed.

He's also doing the same thing he did with Suzanne Moore - oversharing details of their historical interactions. It's an attempt to shame these women by revealing information that wasn't in the public doman. I mean, it's pretty mundane, uninteresting stuff, but it's all he can do to give the semblance of exerting control over them, so he's using it.

It's just fucking creepy. I'm going to say it - it's coercive and controlling. He cannot stand women who don't do what they're told.

He needs to step away from the whisky.

Gattopardo · 31/05/2025 22:48

Ahh, Kate Nash.

Awful, simplistic, naive lyrics and cod-Landaaaarn accent, right?

BRIT brat looking for a relevant cause to tether to.

Gattopardo · 31/05/2025 22:51

But yeah, Jollyon. Dogmatic, deranged and a bit discombobulated.

murasaki · 31/05/2025 22:54

It's getting to the point where I genuinely think he needs residential mental health help.

Gattopardo · 31/05/2025 23:03

The tweets are pretty deranged. I always thought he was batshit but they’ve now tipped over into full incoherence/ substance impairment.

Dear oh dear.

murasaki · 31/05/2025 23:04

Someone needs to lock down his socials and cut off the WiFi at about 6pm.

Gattopardo · 31/05/2025 23:11

Definitely all gone a bit Jack Monroe.

Good lord. He seems to be having some kind of JKR induced breakdown. In the past twenty four hours, Maugham's tweeted multiple times about her, many of the tweets the same but with slightly different wording each time. Is he okay?

'Don't point out that
@jk_rowling
might not be reading Audre Lorde quite right or the famous free speech enthusiast will get her lawyers onto you quicker than you can say "intersectionality".'

'Don't point out that

might, perhaps, have misunderstood Audre Lord or the famous free speech enthusiast will get her lawyers onto you quicker than you can say "intersectionality".'

'White billionaire from her yacht cites Audre Lorde in defence of a white writer for a Far Right newspaper complaining about the heat she got for her bigoted attack on a woman of colour. What times!'

'"We see ourselves as others see us, and despise it, and then see it reflected in other trans women, and hate them for it. Our anger and hatred is against ourselves, and it feels like energy... But anger 'cannot create the future. It can only demolish the past.'": Audre Lorde.'

'Source: https://clareflourish.wordpress.com/audre-lorde-eye-to-eye-transgender/. She also wrote, appositely for JKR: "As white women ignore their built-in privilege of whiteness and define woman in terms of their own experience alone, then women of Color become 'other'." What other applications that thought might have?'

'Still waiting for your lawyers' letter @jk_rowling - or do you only send them to those who are easy for you to bully?'

'Wanna confuse
@jk_rowling
's 'we can always tell' crowd? It's not very hard but you can discombobulate them further - and put money into the pockets of a community she's trying to drown with her billions - by buying a badge from Trans Solidarity Alliance!'

That “ClareFlourish” TRA has written about some of us in that blog. There was a thread on here a few years ago about the mental toll on individual GC women here from trans activism and that clown wrote a self absorbed blog post about us having the audacity to centre our own feelings and mental wellbeing. Many of us were name checked in it.

murasaki · 01/06/2025 00:42

Yes it's odd that some people are allowed to centre their own feelings and wellbeing and others very much aren't.

And we can all tell who is allowed to. He really is the king misogynist right now. I hope it is a crown of thorns.
