Gender neutral rooms - hidden cameras

maltravers · 27/05/2025 10:39

The Guardian has an article today about the rising problem of hidden cameras, where men film women getting changed/bathing/going to the loo. Lifetime prevalence of voyeuristic behaviour stated to be 11.5% but probably higher. A Canadian study suggesting 79% of men would engage in voyeuristic behaviour if there was no risk of being caught. Naturally no conclusions drawn by the Graun about the appropriateness and safety of gender neutral facilities! I’m beginning to wonder about the enthusiasm shown by some guys for GN bathrooms etc. link here:

I was coming on here to post the same article. Why are people derogatory about women’s reluctance to have any men in their toilets and changing rooms?

Just more men trampling all over women’s privacy and dignity.

maltravers · 27/05/2025 10:55

Coatsoff- I think many men don’t care and aren’t very empathetic, some are misogynists, some are maximising the chance to control, punish and abuse, some are idiotic virtue signallers. I don’t think all men are like this btw, but too many and they are not prepared to take a hit for women’s issues. I think many women are ignorant of the dangers tbh, some idiotic virtue signallers there too however!

A lot of otherwise fairly decent men quite enjoy the virtuous seeing of women uncomfortable and put in bad positions, it's the hur hur hur, you wanted equality, you got out of your box, now how do you like it thing that ranges from dickish to absolute bellend. Enjoyment of privilege and power.

Gender neutral spaces aren't great for women as men behave badly. However gender neutral WITH single sex - at least the women who would go in there to the men behaving badly are doing so by choice and consent.

Rockhopper1 · 27/05/2025 11:03

It has taken me far too long to get to this conclusion but I am beginning to realise it’s a ( significant) minority of men who actually behave properly towards and think well of women . I really don’t like nor trust the majority of men at all . A lifetime of being abused and pestered by them whenever I’ve been vulnerable has led me to that conclusion. The sentences given to the creeps in that article are risible .

Nonsense comment.

How do you know they are used "without complaint"? Because you've never heard a complaint, perhaps? Or you don't speak the local language?

I was recently in a bar in Berlin and heard a very vocal complaint!

In some places some people are used to them and probably don't mind them, yes.

Greyskybluesky · 27/05/2025 11:14

Inevitably, CA's comment is designed to make women look "silly" for having justified concerns. It also doesn't address the actual OP in any way at all.

Agreed .Impossible that this situation is unique to UK . From the Independent in 2018 ‘Just under 90 per cent of complaints regarding changing room sexual assaults, voyeurism and harassment are about incidents in unisex facilities.
What’s more, two thirds of all sexual attacks at leisure centres and public swimming pools take place in unisex changing rooms . ‘

The point of the article is about perverts filming women. Do you have any comment about that or is that an unimportant consequence of GN loos and changing rooms to you?

It takes a certain type of mentality to swoop in on a thread about voyeuristic behaviour and not actually condemn that behaviour

I live in mainland Europe. I hate them and don't consider them safe. We visit a large cafe in a local town. It has one loo and basin, and then an outer area with more washing facilities. No windows, thick door. If you come out of the loo and a man is waiting, it's really uncomfortable to be in that small lobby space with a male

Of course thats not even mentioning the issue of men putting cameras in loos. Not that that ever happens of course.

There you go, have your first complaint on me Christine

haha!! Tell that to the hundreds of TRAs who think they are akin to genocide.

we have one of your compatriots on another thread, right now, saying it means they can't even exist

NPET · 27/05/2025 12:14

Grrr I hate men!
OK, not ALL men!! but so many want to see me do private personal things!
My solution: do as much as everyone can to prevent them being able to.
The private & public authorities/government's solution: do as much as they can to allow them to see me in embarrassing positions!

Datun · 27/05/2025 12:18

Amazing how there's no problem with the unisex toilets, when men are trying to ignore their predatory cohorts who flock to them.

But then they are absolutely awful, when the same men are desperate to flock to the women's.

Basically, they're not just moving the goal posts, they're digging them up, taking them down the other end of the pitch, and planting them on the opposite side, all at lightning speed, and all in the same sentence.

As I said. This ideology absolutely addles the brain. I would be embarrassed. Not just over the stupidity, but the total transparency of just sticking it to women whenever possible.

They have no self-respect.

Yes.

It's the behaviour of saying multiple things which entirely contradict each other, but to the person saying them they can all be true at once because they are all serving the same emotion and goal and that makes them true.

The goal of course is to get men access to non consenting women. It's not a sign of healthy thinking or functionality.

Thelnebriati · 27/05/2025 12:46

Its not man hating to want to be able to pee in private. I love my family but still shut the bathroom door.

Exactly.

In order of preference these men primarily want personal access to women only toilets. And if that's not possible, access to unisex toilets that women must use.

That's why preference for unisex toilets switches sides depending on who's talking and whether or not the first choice is available.

The only thing they don't want is no access at all to women.

tough shit, I'm afraid.

Can you address the article posted by the OP please? Any thoughts?

Keeptoiletssafe · 27/05/2025 13:15

Honestly I should write a book about toilets. This has been happening for years. South Korea has a big problem with it. Their cleaners have check toilets for cameras which I think we should do here. There are apparently (I have been reliably informed) lots of websites that are dedicated to footage.

Reduxx and the BBC have previously written articles about this, South Korea has a really bad problem with it and some women have taken their own lives after being secretly filmed and uploaded to the internet. There was a big feminist protect about it called "Women March for Justice" in Seoul a few years ago.

OneQuirkyPanda · 27/05/2025 13:33

If it’s not safe for TW to share toilets with other men why do they think it’s going to be safe for women to share with them?

I believe the only solution is to keep sex segregated toilets as we currently have them and then have a private gender neutral cubicle(s) for anyone that doesn’t want to use the toilet for their sex.

I highly doubt TRAs would agree to that because in reality I think it’s a less about safety and more about them living out their fantasy of being a woman, being denied entry to women only spaces ruins the fantasy.

PLEASE write the book. Seriously. We can crowdfund to help pay for self publishing if needed.
