Maybe Birdy Rose will do it? 🤞

JKR has been openly supportive of Birdy and Doozer on social media, so I can see this happening. I'll be in the market for a garment or two.

RoyalCorgi · 24/05/2025 11:57

I know, it's their disbelief that, rather than blow her money on things like constant travel and fast cars, she's using it to support women.

I'm sure she has her extravagances! Her yacht in the Bahamas, for starters. But the thing about having £945m is that you can splurge £35m on a yacht and still have more than £900m left over for supporting women.

The more I think about it, the more I think this will be a key turning point in the campaign to restore women's sex-based rights. Of course, there have been lots of turning points - the Forstater case and the Supreme Court being major ones. But with so many organisations saying they will defy the Supreme Court ruling, there was a risk that lots of women wouldn't have the resources to fund a legal challenge. Imagine one of the poor women housed in a Scottish jail with male prisoners, for example - where would they find the money to take the Scottish Prison Service to court? Now all they have to do is find a lawyer and apply to the fund, and Bob's your uncle. These organisations won't know what's hit them.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 24/05/2025 11:59

Wow, this is brilliant. Thank you JK Rowling!

I wonder what will happen now, it's going to be fascinating to see.

The fund isn’t for this

We'll see.

I look forward to seeing a repeat of Alison Bailey over and over.

Guess I could get some popcorn and roasted marshmallows (an overused joke Rowling likes to make a lot) to watch all the failed cases from gender critical activists now with a lot of money take up lawsuits against anyone they just dislike.

Yes! And the fact the fund exists and a woman with a legal case could far more easily take employers / organisations to court should also act as a deterrent / remedy without court action, too.

Brilliant! Much love to JKR from OZ.

There won't be any lawsuits if these men obey the actual law.

We sure as fuck will. In the meantime, if you want failed cases, you can look at your good man Jolyon Whatshisface on the Grift Law Project.

If you really believed that this fund will go towards suing anyone who states your protected, albeit plainly dishonest and absurd beliefs and lose every time, you wouldn't be on here shitting yourself over it. You know as well as we and JKR do that this one is going to be covered by competent lawyers who know the law as it's clarified to have always been, will screen appropriately and the house of cards is toppling. Anyway, if all the cases are so clearly doomed to fail, surely lawyers will be falling over themselves to fight them on a no win no fee basis...

Do you actually understand what the fund is for? It doesn't seem like you do.

And if employers and unions etc comply with the law which is pretty crystal clear now.

teawamutu · 24/05/2025 12:39

Doesn't understand the Bailey case either. She didn't win everything - but as she said at the time, she won enough.

The thing about stating that men are women is that there is nothing you can say after that that can top it in terms of absurdity, dishonesty and sheer ridiculousness. Facts and comprehension are no longer anything that concerns you. You can talk pure shite, show you don't understand the very basics of the topic, and you don't look any dafter.

It must be hugely liberating, I guess.

And there's her appeal against stonewall coming up so she may still win against them

FWS lost in the Court of Session. It's not at all uncommon to lose in the first round and funnily enough, it can make for a stronger victory later because, as with FWS, you can appeal to a higher court, explain exactly where the lower one got it wrong, gain more public support as the injustice becomes wider known and then win in the higher court where there's no appeal.

Fordian · 24/05/2025 12:48

I'm so tempted to wander over to Reddit to see what the TRAs are making of it. But this is such a lovely, inspiring thing that I'm not sure I want to go straight into their horrible frothings about black mould on the brain (nope, me either) and being a literal Nazi and racist and conversion therapy fan and never replacing the bog roll.

Otoh it's often unintentionally hilarious. Dilemmas.

Yes, I dip my toe in the waters on Reddit if I want reminding what an adolescent bunch of whiners we’re up against.

Sadly, though, so many seem to be about 16, abetted, sinisterly, by older men-in-dresses.

But thank you, JKR!

KathyMalloryKicksAss · 24/05/2025 12:53

I really don’t have a way with words, but I swear I could write a massive book on the admiration, respect and gratitude I feel for JKR.
I’ve been feeling so disheartened recently with the amount of organisations blatantly flouting the law, knowing that most women don’t have the funds to fight in the courts.
Bring on the legal cases!

Also, if by some minute chance that you read this…Thank You Jo ❤

Firenzo · 24/05/2025 12:55

What a Queen!

I’ve just donated to LAVA in NZ and pre ordered The hallmarked man in honour of this fund.

To the pp who doesn’t love Harry Potter do try the Strike books, they’re fabulous.

Don't be silly, Chris. Read what she's written:

After initial screening, applications go through a rigorous assessment by the JKRWF board. Awards are at the discretion of the board, and limited to closely defined legal actions with a clear goal and timespan.

She is rich, not stupid

Yes we will see. The GC win rate was pretty astonishingly high before the law was clarified to be on our side. The GLP and your side astonishingly poor. Bring it on. 🍿
