What a state to be in.

You'd never wear a pearl necklace with a leather mini skirt. High heels are soooo out these days. Leather mini skirt, opaque black tights. Fabulous flats. White shirt, black cashmere roll neck. Statement earrings.

He needed something to clutch.

And even if the central party did take an interest in out of the way Welsh seats, one of the most influential people in Tory candidate selection is a guy who used to run swingers' parties.

So there's that.

Yeah, the Lib Dems had one of those in Hampshire, allegedly. Politics can be so mucky on the XY side.

In terms of becoming an MP - a lot of selection is down to small constituency parties that can be dominated by a single clique. If he father is very wealthy I can see how he would be able to acquire influence within a constituency party - especially in conventionally labour areas where the Tory group might be very small and not considered important by the central party,

Ah interesting- see Central Suffolk and North Ipswich.

What’s the deal with his Dad?
Is he a wrong ‘un?

Didn't they share an interesting PhD tutor, in some obscure aspect of astronomy (or astrology 🤔)

According to Wiki, Wallis junior obtained a " doctorate in astrobiology from Cardiff University, having studied evidence for cometary panspermia, under the supervision of Chandra Wickramasinghe."

Wallis junior must have studied well before then, because Chandra Wickramasinghe was dismissed by Cardiff University in 2011 and moved to Buckingham University, a private establishment

There is a page on 'What Do They Know' about Wickramasinghe, Cardiff, Buckingham and Wallis senior, where Cardiff University don't seem to have answered an FOI request.
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/why_did_cardiff_astrobiology_dep

And do look up "cometary panspermia". It's not NSFW, just very much, erm, out there.

rebmacesrevda · 20/05/2025 12:16

Hadn't heard of cometary panspermia before, but it is now my gender identity. Need to think up some pronouns; any suggestions welcome :)

MelOfTheRoses · 20/05/2025 12:24

Mars/ET?

JohnnyRememberMe · 20/05/2025 12:26

Star / starself?

I'll be honest the only person I know who tends to look like Jamie currently does is addicted to crack cocaine.

Meth sores was my first thought.

spe/spem/spers?

Or maybe spem/spemself

PizzaNinja · 20/05/2025 13:14

I’m imagining Dr Wallis shouting “Objection, y’honour!” every time his [sic] own KC ‘misgendered’ him 😂

borntobequiet · 20/05/2025 13:24

Irritateddaily · 20/05/2025 10:42

Sorry If I've missed something here but is there a reason all the newspapers (BBC and Dm etc) are using male pronouns? - in a few cases they've made it clear that 'Katie'- is now full time and using she/ her pronouns ? Newspapers before would fall over themselves to use the pronouns that the person requests?

I suspect it’s a “no true trans” sort of thing. I bet lots of TRAs discounted him as being a Tory MP.
I remember thinking when I first heard of him that he’d be disowned PDQ. He is certainly the opposite of “stunning and brave”.

thirdfiddle · 20/05/2025 13:59

Honestly surprised. I thought he was going to quietly vanish and decide not to be trans after all.

Maybe my suspicious mind but anyone come across him being trans in between criminal cases? Just how recent is the name change?

Wallis was still Jamie on 2 June last year. He had said in October 2023 that he would not be standing at the next general election, and was giving his response to the announcement of the GE's date and the end of his tenure as an MP.

It sounds like his ex-wife has.

Meth sores was my first thought.

I wondered that, along with the facial changes. But also considered a cigarette marks tbh.

MoistVonL · 20/05/2025 16:59

The skin on his face and all those bruises on his arms certainly indicate a very unwell individual/

If there was a legitimate health reason (as opposed to drugs) then I am sure it would have been mentioned eg. ‘currently unwell/in the midst of treatment’.

thirdfiddle · 20/05/2025 20:06

Ah yes, iswym, I had not yet read the article. Quite the classic transwidow story then. Poor ex and kids.

I read that Wallis' look is typical of meth sores. I have no blooming idea, do not know a single drug addict.

Some rum chaps in the Lib Dems.

This is a picture of the Parliamentary Liberal Party in 1973. In retrospect it looks like a police line up.

First trans MP in court for harassing his wife.
Chersfrozenface · 22/05/2025 16:21

Wales Online is not letting this go, because the person Wallis scuttled into Tesco to avoid was its reporter.

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/watch-moment-ex-mp-tells-31674873

It also says pointedly "Ms Bahra said her client — who became the UK's first transgender MP when she came out in 2022 — uses she/her pronouns although the barrister mostly referred to the politician as "he" during the hearing."
