It’s been a while since I last saw everyone!

Welcome to everyone, regulars, lurkers, newly ventured in.

A place for women to discuss whatever takes their fancy, where the bar staff are attentive gerbils, Rosy the Red Panda is available for cuddles and all sweet things have no calories and all alcohol leaves the drinker slightly merry and hangover-free.

The Bluestocking Women's Pub, where brains can exist in a single state | Mumsnet

Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nons...

My current toenail colour is ' Very Chipped Deep Red'. I should probably redo them....

I love that violet/purple, Magpie. Very lovely.

Magpiecomplex · 30/05/2025 19:26

Speaking of Radley handbags, I discovered that walking into perfume shops in Covent Garden while wearing what is obviously expensive jewellery gets you a much better standard of service. Shouldn't really be news, but my taste in jewellery leans towards the unusual, so it doesn't often get recognised.

I used to go and get the occasional pedicure - I liked having pretty toe nails - but the salon in the village has a really low chair, and when my feet are all slippery with lotion, I can't get out of it, so I've stopped going. It is undignified to have someone who weighs about as much as one of my legs trying to haul me out of a chair.

Can’t you ask them if they could provide a cushion or a higher chair? You’re probably not the only person who finds a low chair difficult.
I love low chairs though, to go with my legs. Standard size dining chairs only my toes reach the ground if I’m sat back properly.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/05/2025 19:52

I did - they have higher chairs out in the area where they do manicures - but said there wasn't enough space to move one through.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2025 19:57

That’s a shame, not great customer service.

I pity the poor woman on another thread that recieved the world's worst presents from her mother on her birthday!

That is wondrous - I went and found the thread, so I now know it doesn't show the victim of bad gifting clutching a comforting hot water bottle - nothing so helpful, it's a nasty bag. 'Thank you so much, I'll think of you every time I see it'.

I mean I'm the world's worst gift giver, or so I thought! But that blue ruffle jumper, the pink fluffy clutch bag AND a green sequin top is just a sublime level of bad gift giving. I'm actually in awe of her mother!!

I know! I'm surprised they didn't arrest me on the spot.😂🛍

I am also a Radley handbag woman. Designer but not conspicuous consumption. Reasonably priced.

And I am not a smartwatch person, but I am a Radley person and I like an elegant watch, so I was delighted to find this in my signature colour and around half price! It arrives tomorrow, so it may even arrive before we leave for the airport.

I saw that thread too i own a pink version of that jumper, that my mum knitted me lol.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 30/05/2025 20:51

That's a pretty watch (doggie!!!). Hope it arrives in time.

The doggie is the brilliant motif!

Mainly I like a slim watch and have never seen the need for a smartwatch, but this combines the two. Very much looking forward to getting it. I never would have even known about it, if it hadn’t been for browsing the airline duty free and the watch being out of stock. I thought it was adorable and very much in line with my style.

My mother got a lime green jumper very like that knitted for me ca 1972. I was massively ungrateful.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2025 21:07

I love my Apple Watch, and if I want a doggie I can flip the face to Snoopy animations.
You’re only young once but you can be immature forever.Grin

Magpiecomplex · 30/05/2025 21:23

My watch is Disney themed. Ursula from the Little Mermaid, to be precise. 😂

MarieDeGournay · 30/05/2025 21:24

I half hope the watch arrives before you go on hols, Myrtle, and half hope that when you come back and the hols are over😞there'll be a lovely watch waiting for you😀
Hope you have a lovely time!

So true.

Some of my t-shirts reflect this...

I too have a Radley bag. It doesn't get all that much use, because most of my life is lived in jeans/outdoor activity trousers.

Have a lovely holiday, Myrtle.

JanesLittleGirl · 30/05/2025 22:08

I wear my Granny's watch. She left it to me. It is a wind-up Timex. It keeps perfect time but, more importantly, it's my Granny's watch.

I have my late mother's watch (an Omega). It doesn't run. I sometimes wonder if I should get it fixed. I have a few pieces of her jewellery and it's a rare day that I'm not wearing at least one item.

genandtonic · 30/05/2025 22:54

I have my dads hip flask! 😂😂😂

Ah, now my hip flask is a freebie from a bottle of Jameson's.

ETA none of my parents or grandparents had a hip flask as far as I know.

The wonderful thing about an inherited watch is that it is something that the person who left it to you looked at several times each day to check the time and now you are doing exactly the same. It joins you to them.

Get the watch fixed; wear it and remember your Mum every time that you glance at it.

I think i might, Jane.

I have an ancestral warming pan knocking about. Not much call for it in these days of electric blankets, but I cant bear to get rid of it...

It'll be useful when the technological singularity arrives, Edith!
