It’s not a windup.
He literally irons, packs, does the main washing (I do towels and bedding), does the big shop, and often pops out for bits during the day, and he cooks and cleans the hob and oven. He unloads the dishwasher.
I sort out insurances, mortgage, car service, money and budget, including big purchases like furniture. I deal with the tradespeople like the plumber, electrician etc. I load the dishwasher and do my own washing of delicates because a lot of my clothes are expensive and he doesn’t understand that dark clothes can still bleed into pale clothes even after 100 washes. I arranged for the decorating of our new house and the house move. I worked with the lawyers for wills and house move.
We have a cleaner and we don’t garden, but we’re getting the tiny patch of weeds we have made into a patio soon. And I arrange and manage those things.
DSD does her own washing, and he cooks and shops for her. She has learning disabilities. He bulk cooks for everyone so it’s not a problem to add a bit more for her to reheat daily.
We are having our en-suite refurbished and I have done all the research and design. So I do the house admin. I think if we had kids, he’d still do what he does, but I’d be the taxi, until it got to late at night pickups and I would do the kid admin - dental appointments, remembering PE kit and homework etc.
I chose well.
