Just saw this:

Helen Joyce @ HJoyceGender
Morning all! Guess where I'm off to this fine day - Broadcasting House to discuss the @ ForWomenScot judgment, 4 weeks on, on @ BBCWomansHour! Do listen in. I'm looking forward to debunking some shocking disinformation, and reminding an astonished world that Women Have Rights Too

[EDIT]

Yes, I know I put "Women's" instead of "Woman's" in the title

It's almost as if what they really mean is: And how are you going to stop me?

And also ‘you can’t stop me’.

PachacutisBadAuntie · 15/05/2025 15:53

Haven't listened yet but I will. I'll send feedback with the address as a version of 'for what purpose are you collecting this data?'.

That's just appalling.

Can this person be prosecuted?

Given the guidance is really to inform those that believe their gender is a different thing to their sex (because someone who doesn’t would already be using the toilet for their sex) it makes sense to word it in their language for clarity, especially given there are people who say they can change sex.

I would agree except that not one single person ever was "assigned" a sex at birth; that's not "their language", it's propping up a lie. The physical sex of a baby is observed at birth, or more likely these days observed in utero on a scan. And since there is no way a scan can register the feelings of the adolescent that embryo/foetus will become, and the midwife or doctor at the time of birth can't predict them either, the gender is not observed at all until rather later in life.

Do these people really not understand that the presence or absence of a penis is generally what determines the sex at birth? Nobody assigns it; it is simply there, or not there. And if there is any genital ambiguity, tests can be and are done to determine the sex (which always exists; no human is born with no sex).

I can’t remember who the poster was but earlier in a thread (I think one of the ones about RMW’s appearance) they were genuinely puzzled about what they heard as a reference to ‘eminent squeezes’.

An entirely understandable mistake given the enunciation employed 😅

That’s so funny, thank you for clearing that up. Not having heard the interview I was really puzzled about what on earth a misheard “eminent squeezes” could actually be but I didn’t allow for RMW anglicising the plural of a French phrase that can be used for someone operating behind the scenes.

Peregrina · 15/05/2025 16:34

the gender is not observed at all until rather later in life.

Or not at all for me in all my 70 plus years and not for a good many of us either.

Yes, I ought to have written "is not observed at all, if at all, until later in life."

This is terrorism.
"In the UK, terrorism is legally defined under the Terrorism Act 2000. Briefly, terrorism involves the use or threat of violence, property damage, or actions endangering life, primarily to influence a government or international organization or intimidate the public, for the purpose of advancing a political, religious, racial, or ideological cause".

He needs arresting - along with all the other violent and threatening men hiding behind this ideology

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/05/2025 17:50

Annoyingly, I can't read X unless I give the Musk all my data by joining it, which I won't. Is there any way for me to read Anya Palmer's thread anywhere else, by any chance?

Thread by @anyabike on Thread Reader App

@anyabike: 1. Hard agree. Time for some background on a man called Joe who claims to be a woman, and who changed his name to that of an American feminist to troll her. Londoners pay attention, Joe...

I know!!! I'd listen to Helen reading the phonebook! So when all her aims for Sex Matters have been achieved, if she feels like starting a YouTube channel or podcast where she discusses economics, cricket, science fiction, gives hair tips, rates her favourite biscuits, tells Irish people living in England where they can buy Tayto or Brennans or Cidona, basically discusses ANYTHING...I WILL subscribe and enjoy it 😍

Me too!

I'm in awe at how she stays so calm and logical in the face of such stupidity and bullying (I'm not saying Nuala was bullying, I've seen Helen go up against people I would call bullies in other interviews). I would get upset and lose my train of thought.

I've listened twice to yesterday's interview and I still don't know what this refers to 😆

whatthefennel · 15/05/2025 18:31

I sent positive feedback thanking them for interviewing Helen and how refreshing it is to hear such clarity and logic and empathy for women on this issue, framed around the human rights of women, from an unashamedly female perspective.

Also that this was a brilliant example of what Women's Hour should be, rather than centring the views of men who desire to be women.

A strange pronunciation of "éminences grises", not yesterday but on Monday?

musicalfrog · 15/05/2025 20:21

Ah thank you for explaining @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime I hadn't actually listened to Monday's but maybe I will now 😄

ILikeDungs · 15/05/2025 22:24

Sent a positive comment, asking if we could hear more from Helen Joyce

If you copy the link, and edit it by removing x.com and replace it with nitter.poast.org it shows you the twitter thread but on nitter instead

nauticant · 16/05/2025 10:04

So. Anita Rani "versus" Amnesty International on Woman's Hour later.

That'll be interesting.

WinterTrees · 16/05/2025 10:07

Do you think we need a separate thread nauticant?

I'm here, rolling my eyes at the irony of WH talking about how to instil resilience and 'grit' in children today, whilst also contorting their whole purpose to pandering to TRA and MRA tantrummers. Also covering the new face of misogyny (AI) in today's programme, as if they don't regularly promote the good old fashioned kind.

nauticant · 16/05/2025 10:20

Why not? Feel free to set one up and I'll join in.

That is seriously useful; thank you very much.

Tootingbec · 17/05/2025 08:10

Only just managed to listen to WH so a bit slow to this thread.

Helen Joyce is magnificent- I love her!

She brings a “fierce” calm which is so powerful. Clearly states her point of view, knocks back with intelligence nonsensical and illogical arguments and is unabashed in her beliefs.

I’ve got the Amnesty International episode to listen to now - will go move to the next thread!
