Just in case we weren’t clear on their stance…

THIS is what I was talking about when I went to close my account (for unrelated reasons) . No other posters on the walls. Just giant progress flags taking over half the walls inside. Honestly felt like I was in some LGBTQ+ venue, not a bank.
Seriously what are they playing at?

TheCatsTongue · 08/05/2025 13:02

The Progress Flag is out of date now, you need the version that includes the Ukrainian flag in it too.

Peregrina · 08/05/2025 13:04

Fortunately my local branch closed down, and another firm has moved in. There are no signs of flags there.

WallaceinAnderland · 08/05/2025 13:04

This is all just virtue signaling. Businesses are still afraid of the backlash and online attempts to sabotage. Eventually it will all settle down.

Darkgreendarkbark · 08/05/2025 13:05

Fucking hell, I just googled "Lloyds Bank Pride" to see if they were just starting Pride early, and came across their LGBTQ+ page... Woah. I don't know if I can post the link, but here's a flavour:

At Lloyds Banking Group, we're #AlwaysProud because for us, Pride isn’t a month in the calendar, it’s an all-year celebration of sexualities and identities.

We continue to push the boundaries in our marketing and advertising, making it much more inclusive and representative of our customers.

We are committed to providing a safe and supportive working environment for all colleagues and the way in which they wish to express their gender identity.

Like WTF guys, you're a bank, do you really need to be running "an all-year celebration of sexualities and identities"?

MaggieBsBoat · 08/05/2025 13:07

Well Barclays have issued advice that they are now enforcing male and female toilets for their staff in line with the law, which has caused a furore online (understandable) so maybe Lloyds are just slow on the uptake.

PriOn1 · 08/05/2025 13:08

No wonder their shares continue to be worthless. If only they would look to finance instead of virtue signaling.

I agree, its crazy. The priority for most people in terms of a bank account is whether the bank can keep their money & their details safe, and what products/terms they offer. I'm a lesbian and can honestly say my decision of which bank to use has never been swayed by crap like this.

This is the thing, all they realistically had to do is have ladies and gents toilets, and not make a song and dance about how anyone can use any of them in order to express and celebrate their beautiful, fluid gender identities. It's that easy. Just don't encourage male staff to use the ladies', and if it happens, then deal with it with whatever combination of firmness, sensitivity and tact is appropriate to the situation, like tell them they can use the unisex loo. If companies didn't go gender woo crazy to begin with, there wouldn't be such a furore now. They've painted themselves into a rainbow corner.

TheOtherRaven · 08/05/2025 13:16

How 'bout being inclusive of women and homosexuals, guys? Some of us find that rainbow monstrosity actually threatening, being the symbol against us that it is.

TheCatsTongue · 08/05/2025 13:17

A few years ago all the banks changed their app icons to a rainbow, then after receiving a lot of complaints (particularly from Muslim groups) they stopped doing it.

A lot of people (particularly religiously conservatives) were concerned that could incorrectly be labelled as gay due to the app's icon.

OverpricedCupcake · 08/05/2025 13:34

I honestly just laughed at this, it's totally pathetic 😂

On TRA Reddit it seems that there are plans to ban Barclays from taking part in any Pride events.

ArabellaScott · 08/05/2025 13:38

'We continue to push the boundaries'

See, some would say financial institutions should be respectful of boundaries.

Barclays is looking more attractive by the minute 🤣

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 08/05/2025 13:44

Wouldn't it be nice if banks could just focus on banking?

I bet Barclays are really sad about that (not) 😂

We should all move our accounts to them with the massive fortunes we all apparently get from the American far right and JKR

BingoWindow · 08/05/2025 14:03

I near a long grudge - I think I'm still boycotting Barclays because of South Africa in the 1980s but I do lose track.

Crying into their money I should think.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/05/2025 14:37

I've been watching repeats of Dad's Army this week. I miss the days when banks were run by people like Captain Mainwaring.

Whereismyjoiedevivre · 08/05/2025 14:37

I wonder what the top brass at Lloyd’s think about the YTS kids draping flags across branch windows? Looks very unprofessional.

WithSilverBells · 08/05/2025 14:50

I'm sure a large amount of this is signalling to the 'youth' in a competitive market. Same with BBC and IOC,who have been worried about falling youth audience figures, and Green Party, SNP etc all chasing the youth vote. This won't end until we root it out of schools and other services for children so that the next generation of young adults are GI-free.

dubaichocolate · 08/05/2025 14:53

Ooh I love this, I’ve always chosen my bank based on the flags in the branch instead of the ISAs they offer or the interest rate on their savers accounts. Go Lloyds!

As an employer, or as a retail bank? It's a weird one, they've gone so OTT. Are there really young people starting out in financial services, who will choose their employer on the basis of how loudly they shout about celebrating diverse gender expression? And are these kids really unmissable top talent?
