Not being stupid is probably a big factor.

There's never any good discourse to be had when one side starts by calling the other stupid.

I think one of the biggest problems that the 'pro' side of the trans debate has is the number of fringe extremists hysterically drowning the rest of them out from the front, and everyone else assuming that the noise is consensus.

I've never met a trans person in 'real life' whose priority isn't just getting access to the help they need and trying to live some semblance of a normal life.

TheAutumnCrow · 06/05/2025 01:17

most terfs I've seen are middle age + house wives etc with fuck all better to do than sit round and gossip and bitch about others while their husbands are busy fucking the lawn boy at the golf course

See that caricature? That's your mum, that is.

Two hundred trans people and their allies can stand on a Home Counties high street with beautiful handmade signs and chant Fuck Keir Starmer, Fuck Wes Streeting, Trans Rights Are Human Rights until the cows come home. It doesn’t matter. To some minds, it will even hurt the cause.

Well, it all depends on what message you want to put across….

Apparently it’s easy for us because we’re all super-wealthy white housewives with unlimited funding and no differences of opinion, and we have all MPs and the whole of the media in our pockets.

I just woke my cat laughing.

You didn't know that we get all our TERF-funding from American Fundamentalist Christians?

teawamutu · 05/05/2025 19:41

[Narrator: they did not, in fact, have beautiful handmade signs. Their signs were at best ridiculous clichés on cacky bits of cardboard, and at worst horrible misogynistic threats.]

THIS is a beautiful handmade sign

I'm glad to see that you're a real person, I'm such a miserable cynic that I was beginning to suspect that some of the signatories might have been less than serious.

No. But apparently that’s because all the money’s been going to @Boiledbeetle.

DiaAssolellat · 06/05/2025 05:37

I’ve never had the pleasure of looking at any sub reddits so the OP was an eye opening and quite extraordinary read.

I love the Wee Willie Winkie sign!!!

It's not that we are well organised.

It's more than we have an IQ above 80.

And those of us who are mothers, are used to getting shit done.

Edited

Yep

GreenFriedTomato · 06/05/2025 05:52

Yeah everyone comments that they barely have anyone at their protests and shit.

I imagine they are talking about Let Women Speak events and similar where the TRA outnumber them.

I also imagine that women who would like to attend LWS have other things on their plate as PP have mentioned such as work, children, caring responsibilities and so on.
Additionally they fear being outed as GC and the repercussions in their jobs. Fear of being attacked by TRA as has been observed many times.

And the numbers at TRA protests/counter protests seem to comprise of the same people being bussed around the country, and students and unemployed with plenty of time on their hands.

Most busy people can't spend every weekend marching around with megaphones but are active in other ways.

GreenFriedTomato · 06/05/2025 06:02

As all the money, all the systems, all the media is on their side

Say what??? The £££££ given to Stonewall and other orgs by the government and corporations? The media that has spent years shouting TWAW! Reporting men as Women. Using incorrect sex pronouns? Fawning over the likes of Bergdorf and Mulvaney and vilifying JKR? Writing about Terf far right bigots and #bekind ?

Or is there another media that has escaped my attention?

These people inhabit a parallel universe I'm sure of it

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 05/05/2025 18:30

they're not coming to the fucking garden party

We may need to get more lawn boys.

PlanetVulcan · 06/05/2025 06:37

As a single mum of a preschooler and active breed dog owner who works four days a week... I guess my lack of garden is where I get the time from. No rose pruning or making vol-au-vents for TERF garden parties.

Oh and as an atheist, I guess I have more time for TERFing on Sundays too (definitely not doing the endless shit that needs doing whilst my daughter is with her dad, oh no...).

Reality is - as someone said a few pages back - if you want something doing, ask a busy woman to do it 😂 (And operating in the currency of reality helps).

LawnBoy · 06/05/2025 06:43

Speaking with a friend about this recently: trans people do activism in their lunch break or after work, some TERFs are literally on a salary.

Thought this comment was interesting to highlight. Back when I used LinkedIn there were quite a few diversity officers popping up on my feed. Their inclusion priorities were fairly obvious from the things they posted. OTOH, I can't think of many positions where you're paid to champion the boring, old-fashioned kind of woman.

Also as someone who has had trans and nonbinary colleagues, uh... their activism isn't always confined to out-of-work hours.

Except that those Reddit comments display an extraordinary level of downright stupidity.

PonyPatter44 · 06/05/2025 07:25

I told Mr Pony that we're being funded by the US far right now, and he mumbled something about needing new saucepans , and then went off to cut the grass. I tried to tell him that we're getting a lawn boy for that but he just mumbled some more.

I'm wearing purple and white at the garden party. I'll bring fizzy wine and sausages on sticks.

Well seeing how many of us there are...

When you say " the help they need" I assume you are meaning access to NHS funded surgeries and 'treatments'? There are numerous issues with this, though......not least that it also encourages and nurtures the phenomena of trans children and child transition; and secondly, whilst the people you personally know just want to "live a quiet life" I suspect that quietness might be predicated on a belief that everyone will respect and honour the use of pronouns, and will also give access to single sex services and facilities?

The creation of the 'the trans ally' is meant to provide a protective shield around these 'quiet' people in enforcing compliance and delivering retribution.

EmpressaurusKitty · 06/05/2025 07:41

I don’t think I need a lawn boy. Having a weekly cleaner might be useful though. And he could sweep the balcony.

I’ve long thought it would be nice to go to an event of some sort, but finding the time and wherewithal is difficult, not least because I have a dog and nobody to look after him. Before that, I had children.

If I could simply drop everything and hop off to a march at short notice, I would. Presumably many of us have too many other things going on, unlike those who can just drop everything and go with their mates for a fun day out shouting over women.

It is striking how many there are who enjoy those drowning out women parties. Not dissimilar to armies of football hooligans back in the day. Their mums and wives were probably looking after the dog/children/aged parents then too.

I’m going to Filia this year though and am fascinated to see what position we have reached then, given the astonishing turn that we have taken with the Supreme Court.

I suspect the 'lawn boy' is a feature and relic of the confederate, slave owning southern states.

It’s because we’ve been fighting misogyny our whole lives, as have our mothers and grandmothers before us.

Their cause isn’t new to us - it’s just the same old repackaged men’s rights movement we’ve been training to wrestle with since childhood.

This 100%

Crackerjacked · 06/05/2025 08:11

What a joke. The terfs aren’t well organised at all. We’ve been infighting since 2015. The trans issue would have been put to bed years ago if we had been organised. The TRAs are very organised. It’s only now they’re losing that they’re becoming dissatisfied with themselves
