I think this should have its own thread for visibility. The Data Bill is being debated this week and will introduce self ID by the back door unless an amendment is made. Sex Matters has a template letter on this to send to your MP. It will only take a few minutes but it MUST be sent today (Monday 5th) so please make this your Bank Holiday terfing.

URGENT ACTION: email your MP today on the Data Bill - Sex Matters

What’s the problem? The amendment to solve the problem Write to your MP! The Supreme Court has confirmed that “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 means, and has always meant, “biological sex”. The law is clear: single-sex services should operate on the basi...

Done.

April1625 · 05/05/2025 21:45

Done. I've got a Lib Dem MP, no idea on her views on gender vs sex? I've also shared the link with a friend in a Labour area.

Anjelika · 05/05/2025 21:47

Done. Mine is Labour and a woman. Will see what she has to say. Thanks for the heads up OP.

TonerNeedsReplacing · 05/05/2025 21:49

Done. First time I’ve written to my current MP on sex/gender matters. Mine was imposed on the constituency party before election and I happen to be a (not very active) party member which I flagged. If they want re-selection next time I expect to get at least a note back acknowledging my email.

I've just done mine. Our constituency boundaries were redrawn last GE and I've gone from having a TWAW labour MP to a fairly traditional Tory, so hoping he might be ok on this issue. Will wait and see if I get a response and also check on the voting record after the event.

Done.

Done.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 05/05/2025 22:18

Done, with my own comments.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 05/05/2025 22:22

I emailed mine tonight. She definitely knows my views on the issue!

TheAutumnCrow · 05/05/2025 22:29

Re the Lib Dems:

The Parliamentary Party are TWAW/TMAM - however, this puts them at odds with a poll of their grassroots membership (as well as the law!), so that's worth reminding them about.

Also worth a mention is the existence and growth of Liberal Voice for Women, the 'gender critical' arm of the Liberal Democrat Party.

Done. Plus asked his previous stance on TWAW given the SC outcome. He won’t reply cos he’s an attention seeking prick only interested in photo opportunities (guess who?)

You're gonna have to narrow it down a bit!

CriticalCondition · 05/05/2025 23:33

Thanks so much to everyone who has taken time out from their Bank Holiday doings to email their MP. Top work, vipers!

Done - although my MP is a full-on supporter of gender ideology, I want her to know that her constituents don't all agree with her.

TheAutumnCrow · 06/05/2025 00:11

Thanks all, it's crucial that MPs can't keep promulgating the great lie that 'no-one said anything'.

Peregrina · 06/05/2025 00:12

I am still working on my letter. My problem is I do know my MP.

However I have reminded her that I worked hard to get the Lib Dems elected. I mentioned Christine Jardine's letter which said “Too many people I know are now afraid of what the Supreme Court judgement will mean for them. We need clarity and we need it quickly and we need to know that their rights will be protected, with a compassionate solution.” She is then going to write to the Government. I asked whether Ms Jardine will also be writing to the Government about the rights of women, people of colour and people with disabilities and why should transwomen, (transmen never getting a mention until now) be singled out for special attention?

I will sleep on it though. At the moment, it's a bit of a rant.

BingBongSong · 06/05/2025 00:16

Done earlier this evening. Hope it makes a difference. Thanks, OP.

Bump

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/05/2025 09:08

Sent mine yesterday. I’ve previously raised concerns with my MP so I made reference to that and the whole Society of Radiologists fiasco that led to women cancelling mammograms- sometimes sex matters and any uncertainty over the sex of a medical professional may lead women to self exclude.

PrettyDamnCosmic · 06/05/2025 09:17

MCCN · 05/05/2025 15:43

I will do this. However, the suggested draft email to send says that "the birth register is already an accurate source of information on sex." I thought that trans people with a GRC can apply for a brand new birth certificate superseding their original one? In which case it isn't always accurate is it?

Their new birth certificate is documented in a special GRC register. The original entry on the births register remains unaltered.

FaithHopeCarnage · 06/05/2025 09:31

Done (yesterday) first time I’ve written to my MP! He’s Lib Dem in a newly drawn constituency, although the area is staunch Tory. This has inspired me to find out what he actually stands for, which I should have done anyway

andjustwhatfreshhellisthis · 06/05/2025 09:58

Done.
I have a 'dye in the wool' Blue as our local MP 🙄According to his voting record when he was in office, he "Generally voted against laws to promote equality and human rights" , "Consistently voted against equal gay rights" , "Consistently voted against allowing marriage between two people of same sex" 😑 The same chap who voted against the 'up-skirting' bill in 2018 and a private bill against female FGM in 2019 😮but then 'clarified' this by saying he wanted to stop 'badly thought-out legislation'...

So I imagine his views on Trans are likely to be pretty abhorrent tbh, which is not what I'm aiming for at all but <shrugs> let's see if I get a response...

Peregrina · 06/05/2025 10:24

I have just redrafted and sent my letter.

Phew. It took and hour last night and two this morning and there is so very much more I could have said but I stuck to a couple (or three !) points. I stuck to examples where I or my family had been personally affected.

Peregrina · 06/05/2025 10:27

but then 'clarified' this by saying he wanted to stop 'badly thought-out legislation'...

He's not wrong there though - See the Gender Recognition Act.

Their new birth certificate is documented in a special GRC register. The original entry on the births register remains unaltered.

Ah, I didn't know that. Thank you!
