I think this should have its own thread for visibility. The Data Bill is being debated this week and will introduce self ID by the back door unless an amendment is made. Sex Matters has a template letter on this to send to your MP. It will only take a few minutes but it MUST be sent today (Monday 5th) so please make this your Bank Holiday terfing.

URGENT ACTION: email your MP today on the Data Bill - Sex Matters

What’s the problem? The amendment to solve the problem Write to your MP! The Supreme Court has confirmed that “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 means, and has always meant, “biological sex”. The law is clear: single-sex services should operate on the basi...

Done
My MP is Tory, Andrew Snowden. I expect he's on side.

MCCN · 05/05/2025 15:43

I will do this. However, the suggested draft email to send says that "the birth register is already an accurate source of information on sex." I thought that trans people with a GRC can apply for a brand new birth certificate superseding their original one? In which case it isn't always accurate is it?

DustyWindowsills · 05/05/2025 15:49

Done. My MP is Labour, and although I voted for him, I don't know his views on sex/gender issues. I included a link to last week's Electoral Calculus poll showing that 42% of Labour voters support the SC ruling, with only 32% against. Fingers crossed.

Love51 · 05/05/2025 15:57

Done. I'm very tired and can barely string a coherent sentence together so it was good to have something to just read and copy! Thank you @CriticalCondition and Sex Matters.

Peregrina · 05/05/2025 16:00

My MP is Layla Moran, so I don't really expect a positive response, but I will write this evening. I have to go out now. I will also be able to state why I am cancelling my membership.

It's worth noting though, that it is best to make your letter as personal as possible - the standard letters copied from a campaigning organisation
template tend not to get much consideration.

EmilieDuChatelet · 05/05/2025 16:00

Letter sent to my (Conservative) MP and the links shared with friends. Fingers crossed we get this in front of enough MPs.

@PerformativeBewilderment
Same, hopeless on protecting Women's rights. Although they did less well in local elections so perhaps they might be slightly more receptive.

Heggettypeg · 05/05/2025 16:15

Done. I don't know how my MP will react. She seems like a sensible woman but her party is pro- gender.

FatLarrysBanned · 05/05/2025 16:21

Done. ✊🏻

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 05/05/2025 16:23

Done. Thanks for the heads-up!

Gundogday · 05/05/2025 16:29

Thank you for highlighting this.

moto748e · 05/05/2025 16:31

Done. Although when your MP's Lisa Nandy, there seems little point.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 05/05/2025 16:37

Done, as stated on the other thread.

BumbleBeegu · 05/05/2025 16:38

Sent the email…my MP is a bloody dinosaur though so I doubt it will make a difference. We will see 🤞🥴

wonderingwhatsnext · 05/05/2025 16:48

Done. Thanks for highlighting it.

GoatsareGOAT · 05/05/2025 16:50

Thank you for flagging.
Done, personalised and fixed the uses of data as singular

Buuuummmppp

Ramblingnamechanger · 05/05/2025 16:57

My MP is Alex Sobel. Gone a bit quiet lately but in the past was loudly stating there was no problem putting men in women’s prisons. Never replies to my messages so not hoping for much.

Rightsraptor · 05/05/2025 16:59

Done.

SparklyPinkHairband · 05/05/2025 17:07

Done - thanks for the info

Wondermoomin · 05/05/2025 17:13

Done, with my own context added.
Thank you for drawing it to our attention.

NotMeekNotObedient · 05/05/2025 17:15

Thanks for flagging, I had no idea. Sent!

ATowerOfGiraffes · 05/05/2025 17:18

Also done, and grateful to Sex Matters for setting out a template that could easily be personalised (I added the link to the Sullivan report in the email to highlight to him that they really should be following the recommendations from their own gov review ref clear data)

mrshoho · 05/05/2025 17:27

Emailed my Conservative MP. I'm sure he is GC so hope he turns up and has an understanding of what this amendment means. I added to my email saying how much of mess we got in partly because of blatant misinterpretation of the EA 2010 but also the absurdnes of the GRA 2004.

Ramblingnamechanger · 05/05/2025 17:29

Sent an email anyway!
