I think this should have its own thread for visibility. The Data Bill is being debated this week and will introduce self ID by the back door unless an amendment is made. Sex Matters has a template letter on this to send to your MP. It will only take a few minutes but it MUST be sent today (Monday 5th) so please make this your Bank Holiday terfing.

URGENT ACTION: email your MP today on the Data Bill - Sex Matters

What’s the problem? The amendment to solve the problem Write to your MP! The Supreme Court has confirmed that “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 means, and has always meant, “biological sex”. The law is clear: single-sex services should operate on the basi...

Already done 👍

Thelnebriati · 05/05/2025 12:51

Not a lawyer and I have questions: how is it possible for Parliament to introduce a new law that is contradicted by current law? Doesn't anyone check, or is the responsibility of a captured Civil Service?

Lovelyview · 05/05/2025 13:03

Done. Thanks for sharing.

Raquelos · 05/05/2025 13:37

Done, thanks 🙂

Cantunseeit · 05/05/2025 13:43

Done

PerformativeBewilderment · 05/05/2025 13:49

My MP is an utterly captured, relatively young Lib Dem first-timer so I seriously doubt my letter will make a blind bit of difference.

I will do it anyway, just so I can get a mealy-mouthed response in a few weeks to pass on to Maya’s team

Bluebootsgreenboots · 05/05/2025 14:00

Thanks for flagging that up so clearly. Will do it this afternoon!

PedigreeSort · 05/05/2025 14:08

Done. But every time I've contacted my MP I've either been ignored or given a patronising response... this guy is in the cabinet 🙄

LonginesPrime · 05/05/2025 14:10

Thanks for flagging, OP.

Just to reiterate in case anyone missed it, this data bill is being debated in parliament this Wednesday (7th May), which is why we need to be super-quick in getting in touch with our MPs so they have time to get their heads around the amendment before Wednesday’s vote.

Haulage · 05/05/2025 14:11

Done, thanks

TheDevilWearPrimarni · 05/05/2025 14:17

Done

CompleteGinasaur · 05/05/2025 14:19

I did it for the sake of clearing my own conscience. But my M.P. is Nadia Whittome, so that's the only benefit I can see..

NoWordForFluffy · 05/05/2025 14:21

Done.

Doubt my MP will care, mind you. He's a new Labour MP who does as he's told.

EmpressaurusKitty · 05/05/2025 14:22

Done.

MixTapeMel · 05/05/2025 14:27

Done thanks for sharing

inigomontoyahwillcox · 05/05/2025 14:40

Done - although Kemi Badenoch is my MP, so I suspect I'm preaching to the converted.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 05/05/2025 14:41

Done, thanks for sharing.
MP is a woman and a WASPI supporter (her age group), but also a LibDem, so I can't assume anything!

LilyHarris · 05/05/2025 14:51

Done! Thank you.

MoominMai · 05/05/2025 14:59

Done! Commenting to increase interest in thread also

CostaDelZamboni · 05/05/2025 14:59

Done, look forward to sharing her response

theilltemperedqueenofspacetime · 05/05/2025 15:01

Done. Expecting a sound ignoring like always.

DorotheaDiamond · 05/05/2025 15:07

Done. Utterly pointless I’m expecting a TWAW response though

CriticalCondition · 05/05/2025 15:09

Brilliant! Thanks to everyone who has written. It's worth doing even if you think your MP won't vote the way you'd like them to. They can't then say 'nobody told us'!

This is the way damaging legislation gets through under the radar. We need to object/get it amended before it gets into law.

And right now with the Supreme Court judgment at our backs and in every MP's mind we are in a great position to make a very strong point.

Done. My MP was positive on protecting women's rights before the general election when I wrote to him. However, I've had nothing back from him when I wrote to him following the Supreme Court judgment, so we'll see. Conservative but a more liberal type.
