Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nonsensical, blame the guy Myrtle was listening to this evening!

Maybe if Anora the fox cub goes round to the service entrance the Quokkas can give her a little lecture on deportment.

MarieDeGournay · 02/05/2025 14:56

Welcome HartSeven. You're the third person I've welcome to the Bluestocking today, I've been very sure that the last two are newcomers, I'm still a bit worried that FlowerUser has been here before but I forgot😧
Say it ain't so, FlowerUserSmile
It's lovely to have new Stockingers, welcome all! Enjoy.

I've had the gerbils make an enormous pot of tea. Jic anyone needs something to flush wash Beetle's cake down.

FuzzyPuffling · 02/05/2025 15:06

Hello @HartSeven . Welcome!

The new thing I randomly learned yesterday (while checking that the numeric taxonomic ID and scientific name of the dwarf gray hamster had really changed - yes, it’s been reclassified into its own genus) was what Selachii meant. I’d assumed it wasn’t a random name dreamed up by Terry Pratchett for an unpleasant noble house, but I’d never looked it up. Or their rivals the Venturi …ha, well of course…Grin

bonus - google incidentally tells me there’s a law firm called Selachii

This post, amongst many here, is testament to the fact that we need a 😮 and 😳 emoji in the MN arsenal.

I have found my tribe.

I bet that cat is called Yoda.

yoda generally looked benign. That cat does look like a malevolent alien but I’m not sure which

FuzzyPuffling · 02/05/2025 16:02

OK then, MenopausalYoda.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/05/2025 16:03

Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with the concept of multifunctional baked goods. The ginger cake isn’t weapons grade like dwarf bread though.

Now there’s a scary thought.

MarieDeGournay · 02/05/2025 16:11

I've just received a product I bought online to restore an old piece of furniture/a piece of old furniture.

Now far be it from me to objectify other people's languages and culture just because they are different from mine, but....

... it turned out that the product is Italian, and the label reads:
Olio Restauro
Contro l'usura
Restaura, nutre e lucida
Noce medio.
💚❤
Only being set to music by Mozart could make it lovelierSmile

Set to music? I think there's an AI.

I’ve checked, it’s today. Anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, apparently, declared to be an international holiday by David Cameron. Confused

I’ve checked, too, and you’re right.

Perhaps I was reading about Harry Potter Day in the early hours of this morning, before I went to bed, when I was still thinking it was Thursday? Otherwise I can’t explain it.

AsWithGlad · 02/05/2025 16:46

Welcome, @HartSeven!

@Boiledbeetle , I do like the Hart 7 dress.

I bake sourdough rye bread and have since before hipsters discovered fermentation and dp claims that it comes in handy as weapon should we ever be facing any intruders. He is such a wimp when it comes to bread.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/05/2025 17:21

I’ve just got a rye and wholemeal loaf out of the breadmaker, and am eating a lovely crisp crust with banana and cinnamon.

ooh, bullfinch on the birdfeeder again. I’ve only seen a male, hope there’s a female in a nest somewhere near.

Boiledbeetle · 02/05/2025 17:40

I'm just enjoying the mumsnet recommended pop up gazebo in the pub garden!

Fresh crust is just the best.
dd came home last summer with two friends from university and they ate an entire 600g flour loaf every morning for breakfast. I started to worry that I didn't feed them enough dinner which is highly unlikely given I have a tendency to overcater.
