Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nonsensical, blame the guy Myrtle was listening to this evening!

Hello am back of my boat missed you all hope you remember me !!!!

Yes of course, welcome back, hope you had a nice time on the boat and have got your land legs backGrin

EdithStourton · 02/05/2025 13:21

Found you! And yes, excellent thread title.

Unfortunately Brains and Batshit nipped in behind me before I remembered to shut the door.

And Brains, who has clearly longed to do this for years, has persuaded the bar staff to supply Batshit with cocktails so that she can watch.

I suspect she will find the consequences hilarious, and appears to making bets with the gerbils about whether Batshit will shortly be dancing on the tables, singing, or both.

Hello my little hedgehog friend 🦔!

Anyone want a piece of ginger cake? It's a bit wonky, and a tad dry (can't get used to baking in an air fryer) but tastes fine!

lcakethereforeIam · 02/05/2025 13:30

I bet it'd make an excellent base for a trifle.

<takes a cautious nibble>

ErrolTheDragon · 02/05/2025 13:31

Nothing wrong with wonky cake!

EdithStourton · 02/05/2025 13:36

Wonky cake tastes just as good as non-wonky cake.

AsWithGlad · 02/05/2025 13:37

If we eat your ginger cake here in The Bluestocking, does it take on the usual properties of being gluten- and calorie- free, @Boiledbeetle?

If so, please may I have a generously-sized piece?

(I initially typed a generous piece, but can inanimate objects be generous?)

ErrolTheDragon · 02/05/2025 13:37

Wonky cake and bread can be better if there’s more nice crusty knobbles.

I think if you say ‘a generous slice of pie’, the generosity implicitly belongs to the slicer.

Oh I'm very generous with my portions!!!!!

Magpiecomplex · 02/05/2025 13:47

Let me be the first to say the traditional "ta, I'll have the big half", @Boiledbeetle!

And then duck while all the pedants argue about whether it's possible to have a "big half".

'Big Bit" should cover that!

This year’s Tunnock’s marshmallow harvest.

😉
What day is it?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/05/2025 14:02

Meanwhile, having just logged onto my work computer for my half day of (not too onerous) toil, it’s informing me that it’s International Harry Potter Day.

Please may I have the slice in the first picture, the piece to the right of the knife?

No, you’re completely correct. The left hand half, I meant.

I thought that was yesterday. Is your work trying to tell you you’re behind with your tasks?

AsWithGlad · 02/05/2025 14:11

When my mother shared something like a small cake between her two children, she’d say, ‘one of you cuts and the other one chooses.’

My Dad and my brother both have/had degrees in Physics, so if they were content with the ideas of big halves, then so am I.

AsWithGlad · 02/05/2025 14:13

Boiledbeetle · 02/05/2025 13:45

Oh I'm very generous with my portions!!!!!

But definitely not your lower portions.

All the cats I've ever had have been tabby toms. I don't know if there's any significance to that.

There's a black and white cat lives around here who's trying to adopt me, but I assume she has a real home and just wants extra meals.

Oscar, pictured on the previous thread, is a tabby boy who eventually moved in after months of sitting on the windowsill gazing in at us - more than a decade ago. Cats do sometimes decide where they want to live.

Welcome to the Bluestocking.

HartSeven · 02/05/2025 14:19

My first ever visit to the Bluestocking pub, I'm here for the ginger cake, booze and Tunnock's. Can't think of a better combination or more balanced meal. Don't have a cat to bring or any gerbils but can I drop off a bunch of squirrels and an annoying fox cub I'm trying to shoo off my verbenas?

I’ve checked, it’s today. Anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, apparently, declared to be an international holiday by David Cameron. Confused
