Just been “unfriended” for believing in biology

I posted links about the Supreme Court ruling on my fb feed and have just been unfriended and blocked by a real life friend.
I hadn’t seen her for a long time so we had never talked about the issue because the last time we met (about 8 years ago) transgender wasn’t a thing. Well certainly not in my little corner of the UK anyway.
I am bemused. This is someone I had helped a lot with certain situations. She knows me, she knows that I am a kind and decent person.
But now because I post about the legal reclamation of the word woman I am suddenly persona non grata.
I have friends of differing views on all sorts of topics and we accept that we don’t have to agree on everything. Clearly this particular friend can’t accommodate diverse opinions.
So much for tolerance and inclusion then.

Well there are many people in the world who are intersex, neither male or female. I view my trans friends as the sex they have opted to be.

Humans come in one of two class (female or male) choosing to remove a small groups of individuals recognised and classified as either female or male to support an idelogical view point is choosing to Other individuals.

I’m not sure whether the fact you knew which person might take offence, (or the fact that the one that did had not been friended at the time), makes all that much difference, though, to the fact that polarising views - which I think we all agree do seem to what we are dealing with for whatever reason - will cause people to take umbrage, and that that isn’t so hard to foresee.

I think if you want to post them, you have to accept some people will wish to withdraw from those sorts of conversations. It’s not that unpredictable, and so it’s the “surprise” that I took to be disingenuous - albeit that I can appreciate that the disappointment can still be very real nonetheless.

You are right that a lot of other posters were saying their experience of this issue was that it was a non- tolerance one, however, perhaps as a result of that, I did take your comments in a later post ( I did read them all) about “ the irony” of their movement in the same vein. Perhaps, in hindsight, that comment was both fuelled and coloured by the comments of the other pp to some degree.

However, I nonetheless think if you are posting about these issues, you need to understand the extent to which many people find them something they don’t want to engage with - and I’m not sure disengaging is any more unreasonable than wanting to speak out. If choices around debate are allowed, they need to be allowed in both directions.

I think that it would be deeply offensive of OP to assume that any of her friends would be so intellectually challenged or thin skinned as to object to the idea that sex is real and matters.

"Stop using people with a medical condition to justify this utter lunacy."

I genuinely cannot comprehend TQ+ ideologues bring "interssex" (sic) into it. The only possible relevance of people with DSDs is if the argument is that being trans is some sort of clearly diagnoseable medical condition in the same way that a DSD is, or - worse still - that you have to have a DSD to be trans.

Ah …this takes me back to the X/Twitter meltdown when (I think) an ‘ally’ was celebrating the news that there had been a huge scientific (🙄) breakthrough and there was now the chance to prove that someone was trans. Big Colin nearly laddered his tights 😂😂😂😂😂

NPET · 01/05/2025 12:14

I get friended and defriended att for my views. Funny how (straight) men try their hardest to "agree" with my views!

LoserWinner · 01/05/2025 12:33

I’d suggest you’ve been unfriended because your posts are boring, not because of your understanding of ‘biology’. People who use their FB account to bang on about their pet cause just clutter up the newsfeed.

I take it you didn't read OPs posts properly?

Intersex people, @ninjahamster , are either male OR female. Intersex is not a third sex. All it means, is that their outside sexual organs don't match what their Chromosomal sex is. There is no person that is not male or female, in the human species. Everyone is either male, OR female. And it's the same with intersex. A blood test will determine what sex an 'intersex' (now known as DSD - or people with Differences of Sexual Development) are. Intersex, actually, confirms the sex binary. As every DSD is sex specific. Furthermore, people with DSD (formerly known as intersex) have asked ignorant and brainwashed people like yourself to STOP WEAPONSING their condition in this discussion. So please, respect their wishes.

So is that the same for trans 'activists'? Who bang on and on and on and on - and on, about 'trans rights'?

CorruptedCauldron · 01/05/2025 19:11

I’ve unfollowed or muted people who have posted stuff that I disagree with - but I wouldn’t unfriend and block them.

This “friend” either nosed through old posts, or the algorithm popped up OP’s post on to her feed, despite it being from a couple of weeks ago.

If you know and like someone in real life, they are your friend, you plan to visit them, you know they have cancer - and then you dump and block them over a FB post… I think that’s callous.

Your response is really rude.

I personally am happy to regard trans people as the sex they have chosen to be. I’m not the only person in the world who feels this way.

Did you quote the wrong reply?

What do 'intersex' people (i.e people who have a DSD) have to do with trans people choosing their sex? (an impossibility by the way)

I think the last thing your plain old noisy perverts subfaction late blooming males would want is some kind of blood test for transness.

It's like "passing" in that respect. They might think they want laws based on how "girly" you look, but that really wouldn't work out for them.

No what is really rude is 1, being ignorant on DSDs, and 2, weaponising them in a debate to prop up your science denialism and pandering to misogynistic men with a fetish. No one can 'choose' their sex, either, btw.

Are you just as happy to regard people as the age or race they have chosen to be - in spite of all biological appearances?

Would you genuinely be happy to regard this sweet little black girl as such, if she gave you a cute grin as she skipped along the street, singing the alphabet song, on her way into nursery?

If not, genuinely, why would you see it as any different in principle?

I am GC and i have blocked people who make this issue their whole personality on social media. I can also recognise that there are downsides for some trans people and understand why they feel vulnerable right now. Nor do I owe anyone scrolling time.

I don’t really understand your post. But plenty of people do things to their bodies to be seen in a different way, dying hair, extreme fitness, wanting to look like a Barbie doll etc.
I respect that people don’t see transgender people as the gender they have become but I do. And I hope people respect that’s my choice. I have several trans friends, thinking of them as the sex they were born just feels so odd, they are so glaringly their trans sex to me.

I thought I wrote it clearly before, but to summarise: if the person in the picture I posted told you that they were a 3yo black girl, would you gladly accept and regard them as a 3yo black girl?

If not, why not?

No because I don’t believe you can change your age. But I do believe you can change your gender.

What does that actually mean? We have single sex spaces, it’s not about “gender”.

Well. As a female I am happy sharing spaces with trans women.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/05/2025 00:48

You might be, but polls show that most women aren’t.
