Dawn Butler, what a card, eh? (Give the image a moment to get through the screening - it show's JKR's response, which is perfect, as usual.)

DB has tweeted:
Currently, anyone can call themselves a nurse. There's been some very worrying cases of people impersonating nurses. We must stop it. My Bill will legally protect the title “nurse”, ensuring only Registered Nurses can use it. #ProtectNurse

LMAO

I don't know what's real any more.

MounjaroMounjaro · 27/04/2025 18:09

That's so funny. I absolutely love JKR.

CatrionasWhiskers · 27/04/2025 18:11

Why call her JK? Her name is Joanne

Lest we forget, five years ago Dawn Butler went on Good Morning Britain and this claims to be a transcript of what happened:

Presenter Richard Madeley accused the Labour Party of shutting down debate about sex and gender, after two leadership candidates backed calls to expel from the party anyone who questions transgender ideology.
Miss Butler was also asked if people are ‘transphobic’ if they believe there is a biological difference between men who say they are women even if they have not had surgery, and true females.
She said: “What we can’t have is transphobia, we can’t have people who are transphobic.”
She added: “If you’re saying that a trans woman isn’t a woman, then there are issues around that. Talking about penises and vaginas doesn’t help the conversation because then you’re saying that a trans woman isn’t a woman.”
Biological differences
When Madeley asked: “When a child is born, they are identified and observed in a particular sex aren’t they?”, Butler interjected: “A child is born without sex, a child is formed without sex in the beginning”.
She concluded by stating the trans activist slogan, “Trans women are women. Trans men are men”, and suggested that those who don’t agree are making trans people unsafe and contributing to hate crime.

UPDATE – In a later interview with homosexual news website Pink News Butler sought to clarify her remarks.
She said: “The thing is, when you are born, you’re told by the doctor, ‘Congratulations, it’s a boy’ or ‘Congratulations, it’s a girl.’ But I was trying to make the point to him that, you know, it’s also not a given. There’s lots of people that identify as non binary.”

I haven't. I've called her JKR. I wouldn't call her Joanne or Jo as (I am very old) to me that would imply that I know her personally, which I don't. If I wanted to refer to her a bit more formally, I'd say J. K. Rowling, I suppose.

Dawn may make catchy election videos, but she doesn’t seem to think through what she says.

Rightsraptor · 27/04/2025 18:18

Jo could be Jo Phoenix or Jo Bartosch. Or maybe any number of wonderful women called Jo.

Why is Martin Luther King referred to as MLK?

It's easy and defining.

Lottapianos · 27/04/2025 18:19

Honestly, it's enough to make you think that MPs don't give a fig about anything at all, just jump on whatever trendy bandwagon happens to be passing through that week 🙄

She uses J.K on her books and social media, so I assume she doesn't mind being called J.K. Confused

Perish the thought! Hmm

Theeyeballsinthesky · 27/04/2025 18:23

but what if they identify as nurses??

surely dawn doesn’t want to gate keep who can be a nurse?

what if they have been living as a nurse for 2 years?

I believe science has moved on and you no longer need to have trained as a nurse to be a nurse! What about internurses???

Fingernailbiter · 27/04/2025 18:24

I’m hoping she will tackle India Willoughby about the latter recently putting "biological woman" in Twitter/X bio. IW also said recently, among other ludicrous things, that IW is pretty sure that if they did a cheek swab it would come out "female".

Deluded or what? I don’t think IW has heard of chromosomes.

Lots of people nurse children, or elderly people. Why shouldn't they call themselves Nurses? This is all so exclusive. And it isn't possible to define "nurse". Or if it is, we don't need to worry about about context, do we? Transnurses are nurses. Or something.

Conxis · 27/04/2025 18:31

I feel, come the next elections, we need those billboards of bonkers quotes. Like the men of Led by Donkeys did with Brexit.
I think they also projected past quotes onto buildings

Ms Rowling has also commented that TRAs are wont to address her as “Joanne” when giving out to her eg as in this reply of hers on TwiX.
(Text of JKR’s reply [1125 11/05/24]: Joanne, Joanne, Joanne, let me explain, Joanne, what your books mean, Joanne, because, Joanne, here’s a Joanne quote that means men, Joanne, can be women, Joanne, and I hope, Joanne, you realise, Joanne, how very Joanne wrong, Joanne, you are, Joanne, and also Jo.)

What if they feel they were born with a 'nurses brain'.

What if they feel they are a nurse.Surely they must be allowed to be true to that true self.
Oh will no one listen to the pretend ( trans if you will) nurses.

Caaarrrl · 27/04/2025 20:22

I'm a primary school teacher who often suggests a wet paper towel for the children. Surely that makes me a nurse? Not a trans nurse, but a real nurse. I can nurse better than the cis nurses anyway because ... reasons. I've done done this for longer than 2 years.
