This reminds me of the nurse who who ran the London marathon in her own nurses uniform that she nurses in while being a nurse but was told that it didn’t count for the record fastest person in a nurses uniform because it wasn’t a wee blue and white dress. You know, like Bernard Bresslaw in a Carry On film.

I don't see why not. I waste spend a lot of time on Sporcle (trivia site) and I have the Sporcle MD badge, which I regard as proof that I am a fully qualified doctor and can prescribe drugs and carry out operations. I have, after all, mastered the ten three-letter body parts to get that badge, and let me tell you, that's no small achievement.

All of this nonsense has really shaken my taken for granted, unquestioned confidence that supposedly educated people in positions of influence or importance ( lawyers, doctors, politicians, scientists, teachers, professors etc) are acatuially intelligent and competent people. Many really aren't! They are jjust fallible, gullible human beings like everyone else.

Oooh I had this exact argument in person last week. It's catching.

Having watched most of the 'butch lesbian' interview with Dawn Butler without knowing who she was, she didn't come across as dense or unintelligent at all.

But as soon as she launched into the story about the butch lesbian being hounded out of women's toilets, my BS detector went into overdrive. There were so many false notes in it - from there being so many butch lesbians around suddenly, to the 'hounding out' of women's toilets, to what really put the tin lid on it for me - the phalanx of straight women having to accompany their butch lesbian friend [they seem to share her, so that's good as the supply is limited] to protect her in the women's toilet..

I wondered what the butch lesbian friend does when she needs to pee but Dawn and the Band of Straight Sisters is not around to run interference for her..?

It was such an unlikely story, and delivered with such touching concern for butch lesbians - the sad face, the quivery voice - that I formed the opinion, which may of course be completely unfair and wrong, not that this person was unintelligent, but that they were disturbingly skilled at making BS up to suit the moment, and delivering it with great 'sincerity'.

Then the caption revealed it was Dawn Butler MP, and I recognised her as the Onlie Begetter of the wonderful 'rozzer' thread.

I used to work in a MH unit, as a support worker. One day I opened the door to let a patient back in. He said "thanks nurse". I told him I'm not a nurse. He said "well you're good enough at your job that I think you should be. You're the best nurse here"
I'm sure the actual qualified nurses were delighted that they'd done all the training and exams when all they needed to do was open the door with a smile

What I also dislike about the butch lesbian in distress story is that it clearly comes from a male perspective, as I really do not know many (any?) women (straight or not) who would confuse a butch lesbian with a man?!

Yes! I’ve noticed that too. Thankfully the tide seems to have turned in the comments with people saying that women deserve sex-based rights.

The only butch lesbian I know would tell Dawn Butler to feck off and stop making homophobic remarks. Butch lesbians don’t look anything like actual men. They look like themselves.

I like to think of myself as somewhat butch but for some reason if I describe myself as such my friends start laughing😒...
I suspect I feel differently to how I look, and I 'look like myself'. I don't know if I'd be butch enough to qualify for the Dawn Butler Patrol protecting me in the women's toilets.

But I look sufficiently gender-non-conforming to have been challenged in women's toilets from time to time with 'Excuse me, this is the Ladies '.
A smile and 'It's OK, I'm in the right place' has always sorted that out instantly.
I've never been hounded out or felt threatened.

Having been ignored, isolated and offended by the TRAs for years - told we have to have sex with men who ID as lesbians, told we can't have our own spaces, told we are not welcome at Pride events - it is now annoying as hell to be cynically produced as the star turn in outraged protests against the Supreme Court ruling.

I expect 6 foot transmen and women with PCOS feel similarly used.

Well in the argument I had, the straight friend was very concerned because she thought her butch lesbian friend would not be believed by the police and therefore would be strip searched by a male police officer. "That is literally what BTP have said!"
