On R4 at 7.50!!

She said she spoke on behalf of the government, they welcome the judgement and it is now clear, provision must be based on Biological Sex!

Apologies for posting then running (have an appt to get to). but didn’t see another thread on this.

(If you have the sounds App you should easily beable to go to 7.50 and listen)

Anybody who has ever spouted nonsense statements like some women have a penis (Keir Starmer, Ed Davey) or that men can grow a cervix (David Lammy); anyone who has ever scolded or bullied women for daring to believe in biology (Starmer vs Rosie Duffield; Nicola Sturgeon, the NHS, various universities, institutions, charities, businesses and other organisations, celebrities, actors, musicians, writers etc); plus anyone who has ever called a woman a terf or transphobe for asserting her sex-based rights - all these people should indeed be issuing fulsome apologies right about now. I won’t hold my breath though.

Eggtoastie · 22/04/2025 11:25

That interview was great. Why do the presenters seem so incredulous though, and keep asking the same questions?

I think they wanted a catchy quote, a headline, “trans women should use men’s toilets” as Bridget didn’t quite say it, she just repeated they should use the facilities for their biological sex. She was crystal clear in my opinion but the interviewer was like a dog with a bone.

She needed the confirmation about which one a trans woman would have to use. She got the quote for headlines - the men’s.

Ah, the olden days.

I wonder whether the people who thought doing mass lobotomies on women who had opinions and depression and were 'difficult' thought it was the return of the olden days when lobotomies were discredited and vilified? Or maybe they were just grateful that the patriarchal insanity was over and moved on.

Nope, not imagined. This thread has an article with an analysis by Akua Reindorf that covers that. It’s a brilliant article.

Thank you.

And I've just listened to the Bridget Phillipson interview.

It sounds to me as though the labour party are going to latch onto the fact that the solution to all this isn't binary.

That unisex spaces exist, and that places will be encouraged to provide them.

I sincerely hope they encourage them to be in addition to single sex bases, but I'm not holding my bloody breath.

There may have to be some more cases based on the fact that women are disadvantaged by unisex provision.

After all, it's only a handful of pervy, nasty creeps, who tried to get into women's refuges, or were sent to women's prisons, etc.

In terms of validation, it's all about the toilets. Which is why the protests are so vociferous and violent. The validation has been removed in one fell swoop.

still, Starmer, it would appear, has had to pretty much accept the ruling.

Now all he can do is not be enthusiastic about it.

I thought he looked like he wanted to cry in the clip on ITV twitter I saw.

moto748e · 22/04/2025 11:35

Well he'd better be enthusiastic! There's a long list of jobs to be done. making sure the spirit of the decision is followed, in schools, in hospitals, everywhere. Let's see some action!

Eggtoastie · 22/04/2025 11:35

I wondered what the answer was to the question about what the owner of the premises should do if someone accessed the wrong toilets. Can someone be chucked out? I'm sure a bouncer is capable of doing this but what about restaurants, or public buildings such as schools or hospitals. Is it actually illegal to use the wrong toilet? Or maybe comes under some kind of public disorder act?
(thinking too of the protests some TRAs said they'd do of continuing to use women's toilets)

Haha! I'm not surprised. He's run out of road. All he can do is tiptoe to the end

He'll hand it over, put some space between him and all the action points, get someone else to deal with it, so he's not constantly asked about it.

I was impressed, which I didn’t expect to be. The interviewer (Anna Foster) was annoying.

Yeah, the sad little “hmmm” sound she made. Ignoring rape crises centres to focus on the poor wee vulnerable transwoman who does know which door to go through this morning 😢

he can fucking stay home then if he’s too frightened to just pee, and spend some time to think about reframing his trauma

Yes this is it. We need the single sex spaces in addition to unisex. Otherwise we have got much further forward.

Some places legislate for them but we need guidance to promote them.

I thought he looked terrified. As he has always done when asked about this issue. At least he's consistent in that regard.

Surely this is a wonderful opportunity for progressive men to demonstrate their allyship by showing trans women that they are welcome and will be safe in men's toilets.

Presumably if I create a new Twitter account and look on Owen Jones and Billy Bragg's profiles, this is what they will be saying, right?

...right?

Remember when Sarah Jane Baker and some of his more stupid MPs stood outside parliament while a crowd shouted “fuck Keir Starmer”? I could almost have some sympathy. Almost.

RobinEllacotStrike · 22/04/2025 11:50

Did the interviewer think if she asked the question 3 times on the third time Philpson would say "oh actually TW should use whatever facility they want to use?"

Bizarre interviewing.

Good on BP - please keep single sex spaces for women & girls.

To be fair, I would probably be quite intimidated if a convicted murderer stood outside my workplace and shouted, "Fuck MissScarletInTheBallroom!"

That's going to cause a bit of embarrassment when the people ordered out turn out to be women.

Humankind has developed over millennia to tell the difference between men and women based on very small details, it’s integral to survival. We know.

CorruptedCauldron · 22/04/2025 11:58

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y42zzwylvo Good to see it quite prominently on the BBC website, not sure it’s been shared here yet.
