Maggie Chapman has publicly accused the Supreme Court of transphobia. Any lawyers know if this is contempt of court?

I note the stuttering and the uhmm and errrrr ing as she fumbles to not utter wrongspeak.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 22/04/2025 15:46

Well that was no apology. I doubt that will get personperson off the hook. The law is bigoted so we'll change the law.

She’s got a very wobbly head. How odd! She’s quite hard to watch.

I tried to get AI to create a Bobble Head Maggie Personperson. This was the nearest I could get. (AI doesn't replicate text very well.)

I always find Maggie PersonPerson a very poor public speaker. Badly prepared; nervous; and unsure of her facts - she's an embarrassment, but sadly indicative of the incredibly low abilities of many MSPs

Merrymouse · 22/04/2025 15:52

She suggests that anyone who accepts the ruling doesn’t believe that trans people should be able to go out in public. That is very obviously not the case. The only ‘change’ has been confirmation that the law cannot be incoherent.

She really isn’t a good supporter of trans people. They need supporters who can grapple with reality as it is.

There is a great video of her being skewered by Naomi Cunningham in some committee meeting if someone has a link.

ThatPithySheep · 22/04/2025 15:54

I guess in the worst case scenario some trans people will feel they can't go out in public because they can't use public toilets. I'm struggling to muster up much sympathy since they gave not one shiny shit about the women who couldn't use public toilets because there were men in them

ThatAgileCoralBird · 22/04/2025 15:55

If Maggie Chapman has broken the law then surely there needs to be an investigation by Holyrood being and MSP and by the university of Dundee as its newly elected rector to determine whether her actions and comments are ok.

Stella Maris the elected rector of St Andrews University was removed from her position recently for making inflammatory and antisemitic comments.

She's also said that how awful it is that they didn't consult any trans people. She knows a transwoman who would've been really good.

Fortunately the interviewer put her right and said individual people weren't allowed to be consulted, and the trans community didn't come up with anyone else.

she seemed to think individual people could give evidence

To be this ignorant is rather odd, given her position and her opinion!

The number of politicians and lawyers who have shown in the last few days that they don't know how the law works is rather staggering.

If only they had spent the last 10 years campaigning for better toilet provision using arguments based in reality rather than fantasy.

She's not one of politics big thinkers is she?

Pretty much par for the course when it comes to Scottish politics.

ThatPithySheep · 22/04/2025 16:04

As someone noted earlier Maggie PP is a list MSP which means no-one actually voted for her. I very much doubt she would be elected if she had to get votes for herself as her public speaking is so poor.

Conxis · 22/04/2025 16:06

Why us she referred to as Maggie Personperson?

Igneococcus · 22/04/2025 16:09

Conxis · 22/04/2025 16:06

Why us she referred to as Maggie Personperson?

Chap=person and man=person, both non-gendered

Conxis · 22/04/2025 16:10

She’s just been speaking in the Scottish parliament session on the Supreme Court ruling this afternoon. Of course it was all about how worried and frightened trans people are today.
Some of the MSPs spoke pretty harsh words about her behaviour at the weekend

Thank you 😂

Why us she referred to as Maggie Personperson?

I'm glad you asked that @Conxis . It took me a while at first to get it 😂

Basically her second name is Chapman and she doesn't believe in words that correctly define our binary sex classifications. Therefore someone changed her last name to make it gender neutral to keep Maggie happy. I'm sure she appreciates the gesture 😁

HelenaWaiting · 22/04/2025 16:12

Ever the problem with the Greens is how amateur they are. I think this is worth remembering.

Ah @Igneococcus summarised that far more succinctly than me! Always giving too much detail, that's my weak point 😆

Juiceinacup · 22/04/2025 16:15

As I said on another thread, Scottish Greens has made it impossible to vote for them because of their focus on gender nonsense rather than actual environmental issues. Sad to say that Maggie Chapman is a big part of the problem and we didn’t even vote for her.

She’s said she criticised the institution and not individual judges, and won’t be stepping down

I don’t see how that’s better.

Ha, whereas I grew up in a large talkative family and dp and the dc can also talk seemingly without ever taking breath, so I learned to say what I want to say with as few words as possible to get into the rare gaps.

FumingTRex · 22/04/2025 16:32

Oh dear, Maggie Personperson didn’t realise laws are made by politicians not judges. Every day is a learning day.

That's worse! A rogue judge can in theory be impeached, restoring integrity to the court system. She's attacked the integrity of the Supreme Court itself.
