Podcasts covering the SC judgment

Could we have a thread of interesting podcasts?

Subpar from the FT. Starts with a close but no cigar summary from Robert Shrimsley, who mentions concerns about single sex spaces, but quickly moves on to trans rights being rolled back, and ultimately concludes that concern about trans rights issues is an import from the US. No evidence of understanding of women's concerns about males in our spaces nor of the silencing of women over this issue.

@LittleBigHead I'm a BARPOD founding primo and have listened since literally the first episode - one of my favourite podcasts out there. I don't always agree with them, or think they haven't fully understood what the implications are of eg self-ID or safeguarding etc. But I don't like echo chambers so I don't mind disagreeing sometimes.

I'm looking forward to their episode on this, I hope it drops soon.

Yes, @Xiaoxiong I've also listened pretty much since the start - they were amusingly amateurish at the beginning in the pandemic. They've both been cancelled over the trans stuff, and I enjoy listening to their quite measured discussions of this. Singal, in particular, is pragmatic and very humane & compassionate. Although I've seen UK gender critical people (who are not always feminists as I recognise feminism) criticise him . But the US situation is quite different.

Their epis on Keffals were hilarious!

I'e been listening to fiction podcasts in the genre of world-ending conspiracy theories, such as Tanis and Rabbits (highly recommended). It's extraordinary how like these fictions some of the real-world internet rabbit holes can be.

I'd still urge everyone to listen (and subscribe) to Double Jeopardy. They've had several excellent femonists on there, and their epi on the Supreme Court is a haven of rational compassionate discussion in amongst all the to & fro and the Daily Mail. Karon Monaghan is impressive.

I'm guessing from their ignorance that's the extent of their research before pontificating on a topic they know nothing about. Arseholes.

Arrogant arsseholes.

I was very disappointed by the Quiet Riot podcast on this topic. Sunday 20 April. Usually think very highly of analysis by Alex Andreou and Naomi Smith but on this subject they were very poorly and narrowly informed. Both expressed dismay at the idea that a board comprised of 5 men and 5 men could now be considered more diverse than a board containing 4 men, a transwoman, and 5 women. And NS dismissed the idea that biological sex is binary as 'pseudoscience', with AA only replying that he didn't know as much as his co-host about the scientific side of things. I think a lot of progressives now live in a kind of Bluesky echo chamber.

Merrymouse · 24/04/2025 14:04

"And NS dismissed the idea that biological sex is binary as 'pseudoscience'"

Obviously she is scientifically illiterate, but who/what does she think trans women are identifying as?

Is she arguing that being born with Swyers is the same as being Caitlyn Jenner?

Who does she think she is helping?

I'm so confused. Is nobody doing material analysis anymore?

LittleBigHead · 24/04/2025 14:10

And yet, on the day of the judgement, my Blueskye feed was full of "Burn the witch" posts about Ms Rowling. And I don't particularly follow "woke" accounts.

My workplace has left X and gone to Blueskye - I warned them that death threats were still there on Blueskye.

Sorry, got this wrong -- they were dismayed that a board with 5 men and 5 women would now, post-SC ruling, be considered more diverse than a board with 5 men and 5 women that includes a transwoman on the women's side. Pretty sure that was it...

sandgreen · 24/04/2025 19:30

Konstantin Kisin said on X today Triggernometry had invited India Willoughby back on to talk about the ruling, and the researcher was shouted at and hung up on. So let’s see who they get on!

GenericMNwoman · 24/04/2025 20:18

Not a podcast, but the latest episode of The Skewer on bbc sounds sort of covered the ruling. Well worth a listen.

So disappointed at P94. Helen Lewis shoehorned in a mention but it felt like she hadn't been allowed to say more. And nil on either BARpod or new statesman so far. Thanks for all the recommendations in this thread though - have heard some I shall continue to follow as a result.

Intel Lady on X does a great Angela Rayner impression. Here she is being interviewed by Sadiq Khan on his podcast about the SC judgment.

God she's good. Coruscating stuff.

Violetparis · 25/04/2025 08:49

This weeks Electoral Dysfunction podcast with Beth Rigby, Harriet Harman and Ruth Davidson is called 'Can there ever be a calm debate on trans rights?'. Haven't listened to it yet. I hope Beth Rigby stands up for women, she was excellent interviewing Iain Anderson from Stonewall.

This is excellent, though she got the transgender person wrong, it is a female who now identifies as a man and has had a double mastectomy.

The latest New Statesman pod from 24 April discusses this after they discuss Ukraine. Hannah Barnes and Andrew Marr - but their focus is Labour party responses & pragmatic politics.

It’s awful! It’s “think of the poor transwomen”. I think Ruth was trying to say something but muscled out

As employers grapple with the Supreme Court ruling, we ask: how did ‘trans inclusion’ go so wrong at work?

I'm halfway through this, having never heard this podcast before, and it's absolutely brilliant and I got quite emotional along with the host!!

It's also the best and most cogent that I've heard KJK - I have not particularly enjoyed her own videos in the past but responding to the questions of this host, and focusing on the HR and workplace issues, I thought really brought out the best in her as well.

It was very insipid and disappointing, no mention of Stonewall being a big part of how we got here, the abusive placards at trans rights demos etc. No difficult questions to Ruth and Harriet about politicians in both of their parties spouting the TWAW lies. I think Ellie from Glasgow who rang in is Ellie Gomersall who is a transwoman activist often on Sky News.

I know they said they would come back to the topic but surely they could have had representation from the women's rights side. One of the biggest weeks for women's rights for decades and 3 powerful women, on one of the rare all female podcasts, just didn't do the subject justice.

I agree. It’s great and surfaces so much stuff I wanted to say in the workplace. I’m not much of a KJK fan, but thought she came over pretty well here. I’m steaming through the back episodes. The one with Stella O’Malley is excellent.

Listened to this yesterday after reading your comment, and it's bloody brilliant. Thank you.
