"Trans women ARE biological women"

TangenitalContrivance · 18/04/2025 10:09

I see this argument and comment more and more the last few weeks and hugely over the last 3 days.

For example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1k1tliv/trans_women_are_biological_women/

This statement, and the comments underneath it absolutely baffle me.

The approach, one that I am sure will only work with a minority of the people who said TWAW, is to undermine the definition of words, yet again, and deliberately cloud the water when it comes to speaking clearly and using terms that everyone agrees with

I have seen it said in more places than Reddit however, and by respected people

Well no not really - I don’t personally believe in binary genders but accept that culturally it is the norm.

And I am by everyone elses definition on this thread (though not mine) biologically female. It was very amusing that everyone assumed I must be a ‘man’ to have these views. I have a womb and a baby 😳

Edited

If you don't believe in binary genders, why bother to say that you have "female gender"? You could say you have "1492538376 gender" and it would be just as meaningful(less).

Kucinghitam · 19/04/2025 18:02

Ah, OK. So on The Right Side of History, female gender (not woman gender) is a concrete and definable thing which can be clearly related to an individual. But female sex does not exist and all biological traits are a complex ineffable constellation that no mortal mind can comprehend.

Gotcha.

It is genuinely mind boggling that some people aren't embarrassed to be spouting such utter horse crap.

I never assumed that either. Many other words spring to mind before that one.

Although on the Internet anyone can say they are something they are not, and we don't have to accept that you have a baby, or a womb, or are a certain age, or indeed human. Cats are very good at typing garbage too.

I thought you didn't believe in the sex binary.

Such a great article!

I can't even choose a line to pull to quote, every sentence is gold. I've been laughing all afternoon.

Well that’s true. Apart from the cats bit. My cat is an excellent typist.

BiologicalRobot · 19/04/2025 18:22

I bet they understand sex is binary...

Kucinghitam · 19/04/2025 18:23

I reckon it's like intellectual masturbation.

"Does this hot cross bun exist or it is just an undefinable constellation of ingredients? I believe that the physical bun doesn't exist because there's more than one recipe, however the concept of a bun is solid and more real than the physical because my thoughts are so important..."

"What does tea really mean? There are so many kinds of tea, so it doesn't really exist and people who have got scalded are just soooo simplistic. But, my idea of tea - now that does exist and even if it's made of yew bark and nightshade, other people must drink it and declare it delicious..."

"Cats are a nebulous dogwhistle because biology is complex... there's this spectrum from chairs to cats, see how both have 4 legs? This means neither chairs nor cats exist, if you really understood quantum gravity like I do..."

Oh my god.

You've just given me a horrible flashback from my very first uni seminar when I realised I'd made a terrible mistake.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/04/2025 18:27

100% @Kucinghitam

ThatCyanCat · 19/04/2025 18:28

It's not specific to trans ideology, so I don't know whether it belongs on the bingo card, but the whole "I got absolutely served and now I'm going to pretend it was all for my amusement" moustache-twirling stuff is still pretty cliche.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/04/2025 18:29

It is.

👏 But that’s a crap imitation because I don’t type like that. It’s a bit more direct 😜 10 out of 10 for effort though. I’m flattered at the time you spent.

Ah That bingo card again. Cliche.

I will stop now. It was not all for my own amusement (though it has been amusing) and certainly an eye opener to mumsnet.

Assume you mean 'an eye opener to be on Mumsnet'?

Because for anyone who responded to you it's been more like a particularly tedious bout of deja vu. An eye-roller rather than -opener.

I dunno, I found it a very educational eye-opener to be informed, very authoritatively, that

'Gender exists, sex doesn’t.'

I would if I were you. You have brought absolutely nothing new to the decade long discussion and have just regurgitated up old and discredited "ideas" . Next time you visit somewhere new try taking some time to read a few threads to understand the whole site better. Whatever the subject.

But my best advice? Don't teach your grandmother on how to suck eggs.

I blame Enid Blyton. We have all gone up the Magic Faraway Tree, and are living in Oppositeland, where nothing makes sense. But happily we seem to be moving on. What next? I vote for Flapjackland.

The Matrix had nothing on the bonkersness of EB.

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 19/04/2025 19:37

I'd rather live in Flapdoodleland rebelling against Queen Butler and their Butlerian Queer Police.

Yes, we know. As I think we've mentioned, we've been having this conversation for literally years and years and we have seen it all before, including the moustache-twirling this-has-all-amused-me and the final I-meant-to-do-that. Style it out, baby.

(I still don't believe this person has ever seen the inside of a changing room, though. Where would one be where there were only tiny, slim-built women and absolutely no others? Lilliput?)

I thought that was exactly where we are living and what we are doing right now.
